Aprilia SXV 550 - First day out of storage

First day out of my living room for the winter, my high mileage 2008 Aprilia SXV 550. Runs like a homewrecker, screams like the cheating wife.

Honestly, its not anything more than other race bred enduro bikes, any issue I've had with it has been because of me or the poor mechanic who fondled it last, I've seen these with over 70 thousand km on the odo. But for the types who neglect maintenance, yeah just buy another bike, ktm is replaceable, aprilia only made a few thousand of these so don't mess it up.

You have a running Aprilia...congrats!! Svx-450. Sounds awesome...runs for 5 min, shuts off, won't restart...rear cyl temp very hot.

Oils look good? If you want it looked at from an experienced eye, i suggest Allen Noland in USA, and Cal550 in Britain.

maybe running lean or if its fuel injected might be problem with the injector

The lack of spare parts is strongest argument to not buy SXV-450/550 in 2023+, bike is fucking amazing and suddenly manufacter stopped to develop SXV series, would be best SM for street/stunt rides, as I said bike is awesome, insane power, good steering, brakes are insane too, low weight an absolute win for a weekend bike

That's exactly the right way to shut off the SXV - with the kill switch, not the key. Knowing little things like this is how you get them to last. Do you know if it had ever been rebuilt before you bought it?

Once or twice. Not sure, had Noland rebuild it when I got it because the previous owner put the wrong water pump seal in it and ruined the Trans. Bought it at 24k km

I believe they're discontinued, but I think they're made by protaper so standard ones should fit

Allen Noland, he is no longer working on XV bikes since parts are not available. The only people I know of who rebuild them are in Europe as of right now.

Not personally yet, but i have a fair idea of whats going on in there. Last rebuild was done by NTWC.

Depends what you want, if you want exclusivity and performance, sxv, but if you want parts availability and daily rider, get the ktm
