Another common problem are the valve buckets, they have a tendency to worn out quickly and will eat your cam. Aprilia made a modification for this, the newer style valve buckets are ok. Old one’s are silver on top, the new one’s are black. Don't forget to check them.

Thank you for keeping the XV community alive. You gave me hope for my disassebled SXV 550, i kept it for a long term project and never considered selling it. I just have problems finding new/updated valve buckets and camshafts. I had the idea to sand down the used portion of the valve buckets and get them dlc coated, but it seems that the coating wouldnt be thick enough to get back to the oem measurements (any ideas?). I own a 2007 model and got lucky that my engine still works, had that sealant or cooling pump problem, to which engine oil and coolant mixed together to a very delicious vanilla cream XD. Since then my SXV is on vacation, but i can hear him scream for our mountain roads. Here in switzerland the SXV is only legal as a restricted version (14-15kw) and im trying to do an individual approval to ride it destricted, but as you can think, its very expensive.

The #1 source of oil in the airbox I've found is it getting pumped back up through the airbox drain/vent line that comes out in front of the front sprocket. I have my own theories about this as this is a dry sump motor, I don't believe there should ever be enough oil in the bottom of the crankcase to reach that line. Keep up the videos and I'm sure we'll chat again soon. P.S. get better lighting in your garage!!!!

Thanks for this. Looking at a street converted 09 RXV 450, and this was a huge help
@Viskoze2 жыл бұрын
Ehhh... what do you mean by street converted? I have RXV 450, with SXV and KTM 17" wheels, 550 engine and recently with SXV front fork and brakes so I've been trough a lot of phases with this bike. If you want an Aprilia supermoto, buy SXV. If you are planning to swap between supermoto and enduro wheels on RXV just buy both versions of the bike, it will be cheaper and better. RXV is quite hard to justify as a smart enduro purchase, it's heavy, overpowered and parts are scarce. SXV 550 is easier bc there are still not many bikes like it and it's sexy as ****. There are MANY major differences between those two versions of XV. Also km's and years on these bikes don't mean much, all of them have been rebuild by better or worse mechs and things like oil change intervals are measured in hours. They are still great hooligan and amateur race bikes but if you want something for daily commuting, look elsewhere

The two running bikes, has been used for hard enduro, and aprox 400-500 hours on each over the years. Three or four starters,a few clutches one fuel pump one waterpump. I do think that like you says in the vid, They demand an skilled mechanic thats all. Improvements , The fork is shit on one bike KXF 450 forks with Honda CRF clamps, The other has an Air cylinder complement to improve bottoming and is lighted round ten kilograms. Hello!! Northern Illinois University Formula team here. We are trying to switch our engine platform this year from a YZF-R6 to these Aprilias. It has been difficult finding data on these motors, seems the engine manual’s for these motors don’t include 100% of the data you need. I’m hoping you may be able to help us a little. Do you know of any KZbinrs that dive into details of this specific motor? Besides for your videos, the only other quality videos I find are by this French uploader… seems like great content but sadly I don’t understand French. For our purposes engine maintenance is BIGGEST concern. We have a standalone ECU (Megasquirt) that will be running this engine and we do all of our engine calibration in house. We would really appreciate any info at all from you and appreciate your time taken to read this :)

For reference, this is the French video series I was mentioning: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaPIpaV4gtqae9U I haven’t found anything else in this level of detail which really makes me wish I learned French, does anyone know of any other KZbinrs/ mechanics that upload videos on these engines or just work on these in general. A name and email address would be a blessing at the least

@Foredore8 ай бұрын
There are approximately 350 that were made, possibly 250. Don't expect to buy one and ride it. I own 2, one day maybe I'll make a video but I'm afraid to put it out there for people to oggle over and get their grubby hands on to beat an extremely rare and unique bike that is impossible to find parts or replacements, and that should be in a collection like mine, lightly ridden and kept as mostly a display. Go buy a TM to ride, leave the MXV out of it. The info is out there you just have to look. There's ot much to know, its kickstart 4 speed stock, some trick factory supermotos were made and a 5 speed conversion existed, factory ti exaust, integrated oil reservoir, different cams, extremely lightweight like 235 lbs, only came in 450, different crank, seat, tank, some plastics, tuning, came with ecug with built in high idle control. Its crazy cool but its better as a show bike for display in the living room next to a ferrari or Lamborghini
