@@tims8603 Yep - 15 minute charge time is absolutely not true. Aptera uses commodity batteries and the 1000 mile will have a 99 kwh (or possibly larger) battery. The only charge rate we know is 50 kw which is not great (although due to high efficiency is still close to tesla in miles added per hour charging).

Posted to Reddit at r/ApteraMotors Appreciate the coverage. However, your 80% charge in 15 minutes is questionable. Aptera will charge at a peak rate of 500 miles per hour at a 50 kW DC charger. Your claim regarding separate versions with different aerodynamics or 3 passengers is incorrect as far as any announcement goes. Much of your video was of early prototypes where design details have changed. Please make that clear if you produce more. Choice of seats is only likely to be from the aftermarket, except for color. This is one way Aptera will control costs.

There is nothing at all in this video that resembels "latest update"/news/etc. In fact almost ALL of the video clips are 1+ years old and are showing things that have changed drastically in the past year. Thumbs down for this innaccurate jumble of old videos and claimed features that are not even part of the cars current iteration.

I am aware of the charger limitations. I plan to get a 600 mile version. Even though it will take some time to recharge it to 80% assuming it has been fully discharged, it will still charge 2-3X faster than any other car with the equivalent range.

I'm a reservation holder. This video recycles old stock footage of early prototypes, outdated or incorrect information, as well as a number of inaccurate assumptions and misleading information. For instance, you can get a 250, 400, 600 or 1000 mile battery pack. I'm guessing the 250 mile battery pack may charge to 80% in 15 minutes, though you did not mention if that was starting from zero. Tne 1000 mile model will take 4 times as long. A better measure would be how many miles range you can charge in 15 minutes, in this case about 200 miles, or about 3 times as many miles per minute as a Tesla.
@yvs6663
@yvs6663 Жыл бұрын
i think they are promising 100 miles in 10min on either the 400 or 600mile edition in another video i saw. i would expect about 40min of charging time. it would probably require a 100kW+ charger for the two bigger batteries while the 250 and 400 mile models could potentially do it on 50kW. which is in line with the fact that the minimalistc design doesn't really allow for extravagant battery cooling systems. will see once some real world tests become avalible. but all in all, it should make for some amazingly cheap long distance travel given the driver leaves with a full battery.

This video has significant non-truths: THERE IS ONLY ONE VERSION OF THE APTERA. There is no 'more aerodynamic version' or 'fully enclosed' version. The Aptera is not an Arcemoto, an open vehicle with options for enclosure. The author is writing as if he has never seen the car. The video shows old Aptera interiors not even current when this article was written. The Aptera does not come with 1000 mile range unless that battery configuration is ordered at significantly increased cost. The Aptera WILL NOT charge 0-80% in fifteen minutes even if the smallest battery (250 miles range) is optioned. The Aptera WILL charge about 100 miles in 10 minutes regardless of which battery is installed. That's 0-60% in 15 minutes for the 250 mile version, but to 37% for the 400 mile range, 25% in the 600 mile version, or 15% in the 1000 mile range version There are no variable flaps that open/close automatically on the Aptera to improve aerodynamics nor is there a driver option to control these non-existent flaps. Total nonsense. Perhaps Future Driver is referring to the ventilation system, but there are no external aerodynamic flaps nor would such flaps do anything other than disturb its laminar flow design. The solar panels do not eliminate the need for external charging unless the user drives daily less than the number of miles provided by the solar panels (20-40 miles/day) depending upon sun energy available and solar option selected. The solar cells will not charge more than 40 miles a day regardless of configuration. Future Drive would be well advised to actually go to the Aptera website and view the options available. There are no optional lighting packages. The interior comes in four color options with no ability to change the color palette. There is no leather option, currently. There is no sport or luxury seat options, currently. The Aptera only has two option groups: The safety Level II group, and the Sound System upgrade. The "Online Configurer" already exists. Other than the two option groups, customization is limited to four exterior colors (unless you opt for a custom color wrap), four interior color options, four range options (250,400,600, and 1000 miles with commensurate prices), front wheel or all wheel drive, and four levels of solar charging (std, plus hood, plus rear, plus both hood and rear). Readers would be advised to go to the Aptera KZbin channel and watch the actual Aptera production reveal published today for more accurate information or go to Aptera.us and do a test order to view the options available. .

Having all your controls on the display is bad choice for consumers. The display is a single point of failure. As such, it represents the costliest part to replace should it malfunction as well as consumer headaches. It maybe good for the manufacture who only has a display to replace a bunch of parts, but for the consumer, if the display goes down, then all hell breaks loose. Shame on the manufacturer choosing a single point of failure.

Most modern cars have all driving info coming through on a single display and also have that "single display point of failure" problem. It's a tested automotive thing. Toyota BZ4X is new so there is not much data on this as well. There is no argument that touch screens are more distracting. I prefer buttons and knobs. Our Subaru has an excellent combination of manual HVAC controls and a user friendly infotainment system with almost no menu depth. However, the trend is to eliminate mechanical devices as system changes are simple software updates. However, before worrying about the Aptera potentially being like a Tesla (totally annoying and inhuman technical excess), how about we give them a chance at designing a newer generation screen that is more user friendly before we become critical. They already have the major controls in a line at the bottom, thus not requiring a Tesla like, multi-selection moment to simply adjust a mirror. I'm with you. I'm a very high tech person, but I prefer knobs I can twiddle without looking at them, but I like the Aptera concept and might have to bite the bullet and zen out....

I advocate for the return of hand cranks for windows. Pointless tech and unneeded motors are nothing but extra opportunities for failure, as well as safety liabilities. Same thing goes for electronic controls for mirrors, as long as mirror alignment is mechanically stable. Substituting tech controls and power-driven functions for mechanical simplicity and reliability is bad design, especially given the physical superiority and light weight of modern materials for construction of parts. I want to see Zen simplicity combined with appropriate use of sophisticated technology throughout a vehicle. I think that Aptera is an ideal platform for this approach, and perhaps it will evolve further in that direction-- it seems that this mentality is very much at the base of the car's design already. For years, I daydreamed of a car design that began with aerodynamic efficiency as the starting point and first principle. Aptera is the first vehicle to do this. I think they're revolutionary pioneers.

What about a flat tyre on a wheel one cannot handle in bad weather on the side if the road (that tyre should be puncture proof and self healing) What about servicing costs amd availability in Europe ? For now it is just a beach toy reserved for surfers and students and maybe old couples 😊 Good principles not necessarily good car make 😊 Sure, the shape is not bad, not the idea of least amount of mass but a boat on three wheels ready to loose its engines at any point / collision while ensuring maximum damage to living beings is ot really ok 😊 I'll show my concept soon enough and then we can see how a vehicle should try to revolutionize things 😊

I don’t believe that the Aptera has gone thru all environmental qualification conditions (Ice, snow, fog, wind, humidity, heat, cold, etc…). This testing is costly, but will reveal the drawbacks in the vehicle if the company plans to sell this in places other than Southern California.

@@n.brucenelson5920 What you are describing is amateurish. Validation is different from qualification. Environmental qualification is done under controlled repeatable conditions in closed building environment: Temperature (extreme heat and cold), wind, shock & vibration, electrical shock (electrostatic discharge), EMC (electromagnetic compatibility), altitude (pressure impact such as driving in mountains), rain, humidity (ie. Houston in summer), salt & fog (ie.coastal environment), sand & dust (ie desert conditions), icing, light for solar panels (UV,..) fungus (rain forest environments such as Olympic Rain forest in Washington state), etc.

Nobody is shocked about the Aptera motorcycle. It is not a car!
@GZnarg
@GZnarg 2 жыл бұрын
Only because of the antiquated Federal laws (that anything less than four wheels is a motorcycle) does Aptera register as an AutoCycle. Add another wheel to the rear swing arm and it four wheels with no change to the body. Put four front wheels on a car to total six axles and it does not become a truck and fall under truck laws. The laws will eventually change to a new reality, but the current AutoCycle is a new stopgap addition preventing the immediate rewriting of a complex vehicular legal code. Motorcycles are not enclosed and control their center of gravity through leaning mass. Cars do not. Their mass is always to the inside of the outside contact patch in a corner. Cars have enclosed, protected compartments. Motorcycles do not (see 33X greater death rate of motorcycles). Cars will soon come in a variety of configurations, even two wheeled with gyroscopes. The number of wheels is no longer the important criteria separating cars from other forms of transportation.

@@GZnarg Autocycles are motorcycles with3 wheels (no sidecar). Nobody needs a motorcycle wider than 2m. Or even wider than a Hummer H1. And motorcycles like the Aptera dont need to conform to the safety standards of cars, so they can be built much cheaper. Aptera is not able to conform to even the simplest safety standards necessary for cars.

@@vic321344 The only reason that car configurations with three wheels do not register as a car is the tremendous effort that would be necessary to rewrite the vehicular codes to include them on the Federal level and propagate it to 50 states. So, Elio pushed through a stopgap configuration, the AutoCycle, that satisfied the current, obsolete regulations and not require helmets and special motorcycle licences. Thus, Elio, Sondors, and Aptera are licenced as automotive vehicles not requiring motorcycle considerations as they have fully enclosed, automotive grade passenger compartments with all the standard automotive features. It looks like a car, drives like a car, has a car interior, car steering, HVAC, crush zones and air bags, seat belts and everything else standard in cars, in no way resembling a motorcycle. It is designed to be used as a car. Not a word is spent associating it with anything resembling a motorcycle. To do so is the kiss of death to its marketing (see Elio where 68% of its buyers are ex-motorcyclists). It is being designed to pass the automotive crash standards when the licensing laws are finally rewritten to eliminate the obsolete vehicular distinctions regardless of the current legal requirements.. None of the 40,000 people with a reservation are going to claim its a motorcycle regardless of obsolete laws nor is anybody viewing one rolling down the road going to come to such a conclusion.

You're wrong. Aptera has demonstrated very high crush strength due to high end composite materials and the geometry of the body. I disagree. If you see a pothole on the street, with a four wheeler you either miss it or hit it. If you hit it, you will hit it twice, front snd rear wheels. But with three wheelers you more than like hit it just once if you cannot avoid it. The maneuvering to avoid the potholes is the same for both three or four wheel. You just move your car laterally the width of the hole, does not matter the hole is closer to the side or the middle of the car. I think you will hit potholes less often with three wheels.
