As a former decades long entrepreneur, I will say that funding is a slow, brutal, soul-crushing blood bath. Seriously. Investors want to give you as little as they can and make you beg for it as they are taking your company from you. Calling it a shark tank is far too kind. I applaud Aptera’s efforts. It’s a long, long road and unless you’ve traveled it, you have no idea how brutal it is.

After all the promises of the last updates this one is quite a bummer. I feel really disappointed to say the least. There's no real update on the PI builds except for some empty phrases and there's no news about the funding. Within the community we already expected that the PI's won't be finished in August - but not even at the end of September? Common. Funding was also set to be completed few weeks after closing of the last public offering and its still ongoing. The website was also said to be completed in late summer. I don't know if there's a different cultural aspect to that in the US but In Germany we do not make promises if we know we can not keep them or make the nightshifts necessary to make it work out. Right now I'm just not seeing any meaningful progress and at least for me there should rather sooner than later be some big announcements.
@bobhellman8676Ай бұрын
@oliverheinen5440 False promises are not an inherently American thing. Those of us with viable manufacturing companies focus like a laser on meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Aptera had zero credibility with respect to demonstrating its claims or meeting deadlines, except for 1 thing: Monthly updates to inform all that, once again, they failed to meet last month’s expectations. They have no discernible handle on product development or manufacturing.

And 20" longer than a Mini that seats 4 and which is cheaper! Ford shaved the price of the model T down to the basics. He specified the crates his engine supplier shipped his engines in and then used those crates for the floor of his cars. Hi Lites: They don't know how far the vehicles will travel on a full charge. They have stopped making ANY reference to when even a prototype might be ready, much less a production vehicle. This was not an update is was, yet another, promo piece designed to encourage people to keep sending them money. This is looking more and more like the first failed Aptera. As a shareholder and reservation holder, it is becoming increasingly clear that this is likely to be fools money. If this vehicle EVER makes it into production is will likely be another 3 or 4 years at best. By then I will have purchased the EV I leased last year and moved on.

Correct, that was when the target was to be the most efficient gasoline powered production vehicle. They made great strides in both minimum drag co-efficient body design as well as fuel efficiency. As others pointed out in this comments section funding is an incredible roller coaster of a ride. Aptera Motors re-launched in 2019, nearly same design, 10+yrs technology development, and a goal of total electric, onboard solar charging. They’ve made great strides in ~5 short years. Its incredibly difficult to get an automobile company up and in production for a number of reasons. Add to that challenges with filling the space as a “disruptor” by going from 4 to 3 wheels and the challenges increase exponentially. Aptera, when they ultimately reach full production, will hugely influence the transportation space. They’re updates this go around are attempting to be fully transparent and keep people apprised of just where they are. The fact that so many are noting disappointment shows just how much enthusiasm and anticipation there is for the product. Great engineers, marketing, ramp up of tooling. Funding seems to be the major barrier slowing down more rapid progress. Stay the course and when they get there, we will all have a product that is amazing.

@@dirkevans4531 Funding is a problem because they have not demonstrated a compelling story. The only thing they have produced are some mock ups they say are prototypes even though they use no parts planned for the launch vehicles. The only unique tech they have is their shape and they are being sued for patent infringement on that They have not proven any of their claims or developed any new technologies.. They have no oversight and they have taken money from unsuspecting crowd funders who invested on faith. Selling to informed investors is quite different than crowdfunding. That's why it hasn't materialised.

Aptera, if at all possible, do small batch builds of 1 or 2 at a time that are prepaid - or you could finance 50% with a 50% cash prepayment instead of waiting for large scale series funding I will bring $18,000 cash and travel to Carlsbad if I can get a guaranteed completion date. I would stay for 3 days to participate in my Aptera's final assembly. There must be others like me. Must get some products out. The engineering is acceptable. Time to build or die trying.
@artsmith103Ай бұрын
Has it occurred to you that maybe there is some problem other than assembly time? What makes you think $18K is 50%? 3 days, no Aptera response, what does that tell you? Your $18K cannot fix Aptera's problems. Keep it safe in your pocket or demand a penalty clause in the sales contract for late delivery. $1K/wk!
@charlesbeane879526 күн бұрын
You can't assemble what you don't have. They have made marketing props and passed them off as prototypes. They have not figured out what they are going to build yet. What they are calling a PI has never been built before. None of the systems have been proven. You're right though. They need to get some products out.

The events are done by US Capital. It's in their interest to get people aware of the Aptera. The people, engineers, mechanics, programmers are in the office working on building the PI builds so potential investors can have something more tangible to connect with. So, they can do both at this time.

How repairable is the body going to be? Maybe i'm mistaken but it seems like if the body structure is damaged then the whole thing needs to be replaced to the point where it might total the vehicle. I hope the body is able to be split somehow to allow for sub-assembly replacement. Also is the entire UI going to be on a touch screen? I know that it streamlines things and looks cool but having driven in a Tesla i have to say the practicality of not having simple buttons to push is annoying at the least and kinda dangerous at the most (imagine having to look at the screen to change something like the volume or AC settings rather than just feeling for the relevant buttons while keeping your eyes on the road).
