The Cybertruck launch has cut Rivian sales in half. Rivians are too expensive to build. The bed is shorter, it's more adventure lifestyle and the pickup market is not one size fits all. Awesome vehicle though and can now charge at Tesla Superchargers. Hoping you have an awesome trip to the US.

R1s is king for Rivian. Unfortunately pickup driver in general really really don’t like EVs. So I think even though that is the 2nd largest segment it is not something to touch right now. Tesla is only doing better because they are selling a syfi pickup truck to EV owners.

It cost Rivian 32k to sell each truck. If you look at Rivian's financial balance sheet it will confirm what he is saying. Their stock was 130.00 in Nov of 2021. Today their stock is 10.50 a share. Their debt load and cost of doing business is terrible. Our friend here is spot on.

Rivian is a small pickup. In the US most people buy full sized pickups unless they want to save money. The market for a small pickup that costs more than 90% of full sized pickups is likely fully saturated by Rivian. The Ford Lightning is a much better fit in the US market- but also way too expensive (and also not recovering its production cost)...

Rivian didn’t concentrate on making one model (the Delivery Van) the best in its category and profitable, before moving on to the next model (the R1T). That was Tesla’s secret sauce and I’m still rooting for Rivian to right its ship. But adding more models while losing money on every vehicle you’re currently selling is not a good recipe.

I have had my R1S for the past year. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and my last ride was a Tesla M3P. I love my Rivian so much and it’s a total blast to drive. I am, of course, concerned that they won’t be around to see their R2 make it to production. But I hope they do! Starting a new car company is notoriously difficult and few survive but that was the same story for TSLA. I only wish they had pivoted to NACS for the R1 gen2 refresh that happened recently. I have the official Rivian adapter for Tesla’s Supercharger now but native NACS is like having USB-C. Anyway it’s a great fun car and I really hope they survive !

Interesting. I just purchased a lightning and wanted one before the switch to NACS. This way I can use both networks, The adaptor is small and doesn't bother me one bit. But I also don't take a lot of long road trips so most of my charging is done at home anyways.

I passed on Rivian and went with Ford. The Rivian has too many gimmicks. The speaker, the flashlight, the luggage space in front of bed (which side do I open to get my stuff, it did slide back and forth while driving. They had quite a few charging problems.

I did too. As mentioned, the Rivian is more of an Adventure truck where as I use mine more as a work truck. The lightning has the better Frunk, Bed size, interior roominess, fully boxed steel frame, service centres everywhere, and PRICE!!!! Not knocking the Rivian because it's a cool truck and for those that want a lifestyle truck, the smaller size of it, is definitely better for parking around town. With bankruptcy being so openly discussed, I wouldn't recommend any of my friends to get one though. If they do go down, it would suck if something breaks and you have no where to go to fix it.

Ford will soon be releasing a low cost mid size EV truck designed from the ground up. As more of the larger manufacturers ramp up more models that compete with RIvian, the worse it will get for them. Suppliers are already putting them on the back burner getting scared that they won't get paid with the low sales they have now. Do you think them pouring money into a new smaller design which they need to sell even more of to break even is going to get them out of this funk. The only hope for Rivian is if a company with deep pockets buys them out. Otherwise you can pretty well put a fork in them. I know I would not take a chance at this time buying any of their vehicles.

I think they are dealing with some Osborn Effect. The showed 3 much cheaper version coming out. People are going to wait for those new cheaper models. Unfortunately, these would be available for years. Also, there are limited buyers in US for $80k+ cars.

Rivian vehicles are way too boxy for me, but I think they're a great company that needs to hang in there, and focus more on electric delivery vans and commercial vehicles that virtually nobody else is doing. As I've commented many times, it's all about cost and public charging. Traditionally a big part of the decision to buy a new car is resale value. Every EV I've read about has terrible resale value which is why a large majority of sales are 2 year leases. You don't own the car, you're just renting it plus there can be tax benefits as well. A neighbor of mine in LA just bought two low mileage Mercedes EQS SUV's that came off lease for 71K each. They are husband and wife attorneys who work from home with plenty of money and home charging. I got to sit in one, beautiful cars. This is for an SUV that sold new for about 110K. That's a 40K loss in two years. Sales tax in LA is 10% plus other fees. That's an expensive car. Unless you're happy with throwing money away, smart people buy late model Certified used cars with basically a new car warranty. I'm not going to repeat the problems with public charging in LA there are videos about it. Rivian will have to survive long enough for public charging to catch up which will take years. I think that's doubtful making it that much more difficult to sell into this market. Any Rivian owners reading this should sell now because what's it going to be worth after they go BK?

The R2 model rollout late next year into 2026 will make or break Rivian. They have the financial means to launch but it will take strong initial sales to avoid drastic measures like a buyout.

Rivian need to stop with these other models and focus just on getting the R1T/S costs down and meet their delivery van commitments, and they need to open up to RHD markets like the UK/Ireland/Australia/New Zealand/South Africa where there’s demand. We need Rivian, and other non-fossil fuel vehicles, to succeed. One of the benefits of non-ICE vehicles is that 130 million tonnes of corn, which is used to make 80 billion liters of ethanol (which is mixed with gasoline, in the USA), could be better used to help feed a food scarce world. I own a r1t. The problem with Rivian is the third party chargers. Rivian does not have enough Rivian chargers. If they placed one in each city or town. I strongly believe they will get more sales. And they need to push out the r2 and r3 asap!!!

This is about ONE supplier, and the problem isn't with the supplier it was a miscommunication. The carmaker miscalculated when communicating supply and demand needs with Atlanta-based Essex, Rivian’s sole supplier of what are essentially copper wires that carry the electric current inside the EV motors, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing the confidential matter. Essex-Furukawa, a unit of Superior Essex, subsequently committed its machines to support other customers, the people said. Rivian has identified other suppliers capable of providing appropriate replacements, but at too high a cost at such short notice.

Another issue is the demand for the Amazon delivery van has gone and there seems to be no sign of selling it elsewhere. Suspect the margin on the Amazon van is near zero, might even be cost minus! When rumours of financial issues start to gain momentum, it's a nail in the coffin. People will be very cautious and if Trump gets in, Gas cars will have for a while a second life. For that reason, Rivian will not survive and VW has no money to take in on and buy it out.

How exactly has Tesla stock 'exploded?' It's right in the middle of its high and low for the year, and SLIPPED when the robotaxi announcement came out. Also, they've had to slash prices AGAIN to try and increase sales, which have mostly (according to Tesla) been BUSINESS LEASES. Rivian is Lucid is Tesla. And most of Tesla's customer base aren't cool with him supporting Trump. I'm not sure where you're coming up with this.

I agree with what you said about the front end. That was their only flaw as far as design really. I wish Tesla would have made a more traditional-looking truck in a lot of ways, but I also think having a 6 ft box comes in really handy, and you have to chop off the front end to do that (which people can't handle looks wise), so they didn't have very good options of making it look 'traditional'.
