You don't want to toss it out the entire length of the rope so you can keep some slack. That way if you get hung up, you just take the rope in one hand and pretend you're trying to crack a whip by flinging it down. It'll travel the length to the hang up and hopefully come free. It takes practice which I had from my rowboat anchor hanging up a lot in my fav fishing pond. Works when your hook gets hung up too.

great idea with the "cone". we do it with one of us in a kayak with a pull pole. might want to consider using a "taught line hitch" knot for your wrist. a lot less chaffing/more precise fit. also maybe a Palomar knot for the other end, smaller/stronger, and the result is two lines around the eye of the magnet for strength. it's not an easy sport, but so much fun!

Little trick I've learnt for getting stuck (when fishing for fish) is just loosen the line a very little, lift rod up and bring down quite fast.. making a wave go down the line and making the weight, hook or lure travel away from you. Maybe it will work for magnets caught in branches under the water :)
@osmia35618 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the vid, enjoyed it. If you tie a loop in your rope 50cms above your magnet you can get way more distance. Not adviced in loggy areas, and bring more rope :)
@labrd418 жыл бұрын
I think you could improve that design by using a plastic funnel along with a stainless spring keeping the funnel off the magnet. Would give you a better deflection angle.

I've seen something like that little metal "roof" you found on stuff sticking up out of the ground along roads. Maybe welded to the marker where a mains shut-off is and it would have a number painted on either side of the "peak." The orange looks kinda "official." Can find any pictures of what I remember. You could weld a handle to it and make it the world's smallest hod carrier.

It's defiantly not a wheel chock it is an aerial natural gas pipeline marker so aerial patrols can clearly record pipeline routes. they are usually painted red or yellow and have up to a 3 digit number usually seen in rural areas where pipelines aren't messed around with as much

Hi Beau, awesome video. I've always wanted to try magnet fishing I'll have to give it a go in the summer. If you get snagged deeper out you maybe could try sliding a short but heavy piece of pipe down the line, just hold your end high and slide the pipe downwards into the water and when it comes to the end it will pop the other end free. I do that sometimes to get fishing lures unstuck, except instead of pipe I use a heavy egg sinker.

Talking about magnet fishing do you have trouble to clean up the tiny metal chips that stuck between the gap of the magnet? By my experience I usually use a piece of duck tape or chewing gum (after chewed) to stuck it out, it clean up so well let try this suggestion.
