Chigg Update: Hands OK - No Rabies - Not Fried

Just a quick update on my health. Sorry I didn't get something out earlier about my hands. I did answer quite a few comments, but I know they get lost. Beaver was positive for rabies and I get my second shot tomorrow. Should be okay, but it can take up to 6 years to get ya sometimes....

Good news Beau. My daughter had to get the rabies shots. She tried to help a young cat by our university and she got bit. Almost positive the cat had rabies because of the condition it was in. Glad your ok. Take care and be safe

I’m glad you’re on top of the Rabies. I had to have the rabies series a few years ago from a raccoon bite. But eight weeks ago I got a bite from a rattlesnake. Got my pants missed my leg. That one was more scary but a lot less deadly. We did have a beaver chase us once on the creek and then acted very lethargic and could barely move. I’ve often wondered if it was rabid.

Did you have to get the shots in your stomach? How long does your last shot have to be before you need those?

@@Iz0penNot in the stomach, but it’s still a series of shots and they’re given only at a county health office here. The first shot went near where I was bitten, then another shot like 3 days later but at least it was in the arm. 3rd shot was the next week and I think the last shot was two weeks after that. Didn’t hurt but it did leave a pink spot for a little while under my skin because the vaccine had a really bright hot pink color.

I'm glad your hands are ok. I thought it was a chemical on the gloves that had removed the water barrier from your skin. It's very concerning when something like that happens. We haven't had many signs of rabies here in the UK I hope it never makes it over here. But I'm very glad you're not at risk. Keep up the good work we love your vids .. Ad.

Soon after the bite he's out detecting and goes to pick up a silver coin he finds but gets burned by the slightest touch of it. Late at night a couple walking near a pond hear the loud slap of a beavers tail on the water and you hear their screams. A sheriff and a biologist find beaver teeth marks in a tree "but they're far bigger than any KNOWN beaver....." Oh that's fun lol

That chemical reaction happened to one of my hands one night at work when there was a mold leak, and the water contained some kind of antifreeze. The way I fixed it, was when I got home, I put coconut oil into a non latex rubber glove, and let it soak into my hand, then slept with it on. It helps to retain what moisture you have, and restores the oils to your hand. This does work, for future reference.

I used to clean metal parts of oil/cutting fluids with a now band solvent (causes cancer,etc) bad stuff that ate through gloves. I would do the same thing, only used olive oil or lanolin. Great tip 👍✌️

Anytime you see a beaver lodge you want to keep your distance. They're territorial and might come at you even if they don't have rabies. There's actually been a fatality from a beaver bite -- got the guys femoral artery.

I had to have the series about 8 years ago too, bat hit me in the face ( bat as in wings, not bat as in baseball lol) . Wasn't that rough, not fun but not at all the ordeal it was for people decades ago. I am strident about trying to educate people about the enormous danger rabies presents ! Over 50,000 a year die?! !!!!!! Fans: Never ignore any kind of potential rabies exposure! Never blow it off. Even if you find a bat in the house, or wake up to find one in your room, ASSUME you were exposed and get the rabies series immediately. And always keep your pets innoculated. PS many People for some reason don't think livestock can get rabies ! Yes, they can.
