Dear All, I never expected this response but thank you all for the comments. Nick deserves greater as travelling in the current circumstances was not easy for them. All I had to do was TALK. @adriansayers70023 жыл бұрын
I'll wager John has never sailed properly or he would 'get it' I used to be like that. As my old motor boat instructor said many years ago there's only two interesting parts to motorboating, leaving and arriving, the bit in the middle is just noisy uncomfortable driving. I've done lots of both and for me this is just unskilled noisy, bouncing about and ecologically unsound just like everyday life, no escape. The vast majority of motorboaters who have sailed with me are instant converts. Sailing is a relaxing escape, an art, the ropes, the sail shape, harnessing the wind the silence other than the water sliding by is all part of it, but you need the time and the ability to unwind and enjoy. At the end of the journey you have accomplished something with a sense of achievement and the wind is free not 1 mile to the gallon! It's like saying who'd walk up a hill when you could drive a Land rover up it in minutes - completely missing the point- the two are incomparable - I would never go back to motoring buy hey each to his own .

@@adriansayers7002 I am loving the boats but to add as a proud chief cook and bottle washer of a 45 foot gaff rig ketch the sublime feeling of sailing at 8 knots with not a sound of engine and doing 70 miles with no adjustments to the tack is the one for me. The boat stable as a rock and 2 children soundly asleep to awake to a calm sea and a beautiful destination. Not saying this is the norm but to experience it at least once was a life experience and there i was on my "night watch" thinking wow this is unbelievable

I believe hull number 1 is a boat called lady kate which was moored for a year or so in our local marina. The video doesn’t do justice to just how big and rugged these 1450’s are. Lady was docked next to a squadron of some sort and the “rib” dwarfed it.

I first visited the Kenmare area in 1968/69, drawn not by boats or the fantastic scenery but the Circuit of Ireland Rally. I never returned but having seen John I was truly inspired to visit once more. His demeanour is typical of the area and the Irish in general. Unfortunately a personal boat is beyond my reach but I will certainly try one of his hotels. The video is probably one of the best you have produced, showing not a "show off owner or show off boat", but a pairing made for each other. A boat built to be used for the job and the owners needs. No flash, just good old fashioned common sense, in a boat that will be truly used and enjoyed. Fantastic !!!!! sorry could not resist.

I only discovered the channel a few days ago, but Meet The Owner is excellent. The boats themselves and the solid practical experience of their owners is fascinating, but the quality of the interviews at the end is phenomenal. Nick, your input into those interviews is crucial. There's a RedBay (I'm guessing a 10.5 metre) based at St Mary's in the Scilly Isles and I went for a run on her about 5 years back when they cancelled our flight from the mainland and we managed to hitch a lift on her (well OK, we paid the owner :) ) from Penzance to St Mary's. Quite Spartan but my God, what a brilliant seaboat; I was seriously impressed. We weren't in the teeth of a gale or anything, but when you go boating out there you're genuinely in the Atlantic and you need something that will take care of you. She's mostly used for taking people out fishing and/or seeing the remoter islands and the biggest plus, as John Brennan says, is that if you're out somewhere and you have to get back you can do so, even if you have to ease back on the throttles a bit. Very impressed with John himself as well. He's not the only person to give serious thought to what he needs from a boat and to spec it accordingly, but he's done one of the most thorough jobs that I have seen. I really like the Irish, but I have to say that because, like Nick's Marianne, my partner is from the Emerald Isle :)
