I found a way to BREED TROUT in aquaponics and you can do it too!
I had the chance to hatch millions of trout in my life while working in a trout hatchery. However, this time it's very different, I have been able to adapt professional techniques to a relatively small backyard aquaponics setup. Using only inexpensive equipment and no chemical.
In this video I give you an overview of the first aquaponics trout breeding.
The species involved here are Rainbow trout, Golden rainbow trout and Brook trout.
If you like to learn more I recommend to join the aquaponics revolution movement (and get a free aquaponics training) there: aquaponic.subscribemenow.com/

Greetings! Love of alive water ! Thank you great video , ; I have one question, have you tried breeding Scuds - ? It would close your circle of Aquaponic even tighter because of the what Scuds can eat and how fine there FECES are easy for plants to pick up . There the best Trout food - the meat of the trout looks like sockeye Salmon if they had a diet of Scuds . Fly fishers make fly pattern s mimicking Scuds because the work well because trout love Scuds , throw some in your clean out tank settling tank or filters . Just a Idea 😜 I allways wanted to try ,but don't have a place to do it ! Breed Scuds by the Ton 🤣 if I had to much ? Dehydrated Scuds !! 1 Kg. $?

This is amazing. Thank you for sharing. I've got a trout stream running through our property. It used to be stocked yearly w rainbow trout but hasn't been in years. There's still a small population in there but I rarely catch them anymore. 3 waterfalls in the 20 miles it runs so the upper area doesn't have many. Would love to try this. I'm just learning aquaponics so this might be above my skill level. But I would love to be able to let the little ones go in the stream.

I hadn’t considered trout for my garden because it isn’t readily available here in the southern US. I found you while searching for an option that isn’t grown in a monoculture. I do love fish and I adore fish eggs, every kind so far. That makes this an option. Still, even with all these marks checked we are extraordinarily fortunate to have an expert explain the process, benefits, pitfalls and joys of farming trout in a natural environment. The natural food source is my favorite aspect of this process as farmed fish tastes like the food it eats - meaning it tastes bad. I have other interests. I wonder if I could use the water from the small river nearby to power a turbo (underground) then deliver a small portion of it my aquaculture garden before returning to the river? This would give me power and local water without interfering with the river’s path in any significant way. Just thinking…

Would this be a project that could be attempted by someone with no prior experience in aquaculture? I’ve had lots of experience keeping fish tanks. I think a trout pond would be an awesome way to supply food for myself one day in the future. My goal is to one day be completely self reliant with my food. I’m glad that you choose to go the no chemical route. Being eco friendly is half of the reason I try to be more self reliant.

Looks like they don't do well below 35-39 F. You might look into adding some extra passive solar heat in winter (using rocks and a collector to channel the water through) or a temporary seasonal overhead greenhouse-type cover, or both. Some innovative passive methods are discussed in All My Secrets of Organic and Container Gardening So Far. I always try to manage winter without BUYING energy inputs for heat.

Great point! trout are cold water fish and will be fine in pretty cold water but as you said, the water they swim in must remain liquid. it's OK if there is ice on the surface but the bottom of the tank must not freeze and the water must remain oxygenated.

I'm not in the position to get into hydroponics for myself, but I would love to volunteer with the local hatcheries here in northwestern WA. I don't know how easy it would be to do so being that I don't have a degree in biology or fisheries management. I recently became aware of naturally spawning king salmon in Patagonia Chille that was introduced some time in the late 70's or early 80's. They used king salmon from the Columbia river as well as other surrounding rivers in WA state. I would think this was a big operation but there is no record of this being done. Obviously this was done in secrecy which I can understand why. I say it looks like a big operation because they have 4 specific king salmon runs. Spring, summer, fall, and winter. Currently I'm saving up money to experience it for myself. Knowing what little I know about hatchery salmon and steelhead I'm still convinced there has to be a better way to mimic naturally occurring spawning and egg maturation. The biggest problem I see is that natural selection isn't being done. Nature shows that big females spawn with big males. The males fight off other males and usually the biggest and strongest win. That's why the fish used to be bigger not long ago. Enough of the ranting😊 Thanks so much for the video it really sparked some thought, enough so that I will be seeking to work as a volunteer.

Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and insights! It's wonderful to see your interest in volunteering with local hatcheries in northwestern WA. Your dedication to understanding and preserving natural spawning cycles is inspiring. Degrees are valuable, but the passion and hands-on experience you bring can be equally impactful. Volunteering is a fantastic way to contribute, learn, and make a difference. Best of luck on your journey, and feel free to share any exciting discoveries along the way! 😊🐟

I've always been interested in trout for aquaponics but their temperature needs have always stumped me. How do you maintain the low temperatures they need in the heat of the summer?
@AquaponicsRevolution
@AquaponicsRevolution 6 ай бұрын
Yes, it can be a real challenge. I specifically build my setup for this purpose. It's deep into the ground and keeps the water just cold enough to keep trout alive in summer.

I live in central TX where temps range from 100F in summer to 20F for periods in winter. I have this idea to create a natural stream using geothermal cooling and solar pumps to support a small population of trout, and am wondering now whether I can incorporate aquaponics in my project to create shade and insect life. But my fear is hot summers and cold snaps in winter will kill my fish. And I fear the pumping will raise the temperature of the water as you need quite a lot of HP to push enough water to make even a small stream say 5' wide and 6" average depth, with a head of say 10'. That HP becomes heat.

would I need a water cooler since I live in a warm state here in the u.s? what is a good temp to raise them at?
@AquaponicsRevolution
@AquaponicsRevolution Жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle, if your water increase above 25C you will have trouble to keep them alive. I still don't recommend using a cooler since it wouldn't be sustainable. Here in Melbourne the air temperature can reach 40C few days per year but with the Holistic aquaponics style I am able to keep the water temperature at an acceptable range for the trout. I hope you can get inspired and do the same.

Hi Michelle. I’m in NE Vic and experimenting with an old freezer. I know this doesn’t meet the “sustainability” we aim to achieve but I offset this by using solar. I run a coil of poly pipe through the lid and back to the tank and use a valve to regulate the flow to a trickle (else if freezes). So far I’m able to keep temperatures below 25! It’s my first attempt so probably much room to improve and make more efficient.
