Hey Cory quick question for you. I just had an ich outbreak in my cichlid tank which I’m taking care of, but it made me think about my other tank. I have a turtle living with about 20 tiger barbs and a handful of other fish. I’ve heard you talk about owning turtles in some of your other videos. So here’s my question. If I was to have an ich outbreak in my turtle/fish tank, would Ich X be harmful to use with my turtle living in there? Just curious if you’ve ever ran into something like this and if you would treat it the same way as with a fish only tank.

We actually ordered a bottle of Ich-X from you, today, an East Texas order! We bought some tools for planting, and plant supplements from you, last week, and everything went smoothly, you've likely become our go-to for supplies. Our Green Tiger Barbs, our Clown Loach, and likely, though it's very hard to tell, our three Corydoras all have Ich. Hopefully the Ich-X will get our little guys shipshape. I'm always horrified at the thought that the meds will kill them, it's like you said. It's more likely the medication will kill them than the Ich. While that is actually INCREDIBLY comforting, it's also very daunting. I've always believed I killed a betta of mine years ago, while trying to cure his popeye. I'm haunting by it any time our babies need meds. Thank you, Cory! Your videos are vital to us, keep them coming.

Cory, I really want to thank you for this video, because it saved the vast majority of my fish. I've had an established African cichlid tank for 3 years now and I made the terrible mistake of adding a couple new fish without using a quarantine tank. I'm not sure if the ich came first or if the bacterial infection was what led to ich, but 2 days after adding my new fish, one of them was dead, and more than half my fish had ich spots. Many started getting frayed fins, and one particularly beautiful scolofi cichlid caught the worst of it. I've never seen a fish bleed from fin rot before before but it was horrible to witness, I love those guys and to see them in so much pain was agonizing. To make matters worse I caught the flu at the same time my fish got sick. Between shivering fever and hacking coughs, I managed to find and use the meds you recommended and they worked like a freaking charm. I lost 2 fish but I managed to save 25 more. They owe their lives to you, because I would never have used more than a simple ich remedy if I hadn't found your video. I just wanted you to know the impact that you've had from this video, and again extend my deepest thanks.

There should be no issue, but we suggest adding aeration during the treatment period and avoid any over dose." . They are large enough for me to see with my terrible eyesight so they must have survived the last few days that I've been dosing. They are so darn cute!

Oh my gosh Cory. I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel! I have been fighting cotton wool disease and ich for almost a month. Cotton wool started on 3 of my 4 tiny goldfish in my 10 gallon tank. The 3 died quickly, but the 4th was fine. All seemed well for a couple of weeks. Suddenly, one night, in my 25 gallon, my two 7" goldfish that I've had for about 8 years started looking awful. Hazy, sort of. In the morning, I started the Kordon fungus treatment stuff I had. Their fins had red streaks, there was little red patches all over, and later that day, you could see cotton wool on their bodies. The next morning they were covered in ick. Other than my 2 big goldfish, I'm fairly new to aquariums, and have NO experience with diseases. Those 2 fish were alive through sheer determination and spite...on their parts! I researched everything I could online, asked opinons at a few fish stores, and everyone told me something different. Even with photos, they said fish don't have both diseases at the same time. I tried several things over the next couple of days- aquarium salt, the fungus treatment, ich meds, raising the temp. I watched my fish get worse by the hour, and could plainly see they were suffering. 5 days after they started with the illnesses, my husband and I decided it was cruel to continue, and I euthanized them. Yeah, had to google that as well. Clove oil seemed to be the most humane way to do it. It was the most horrible experience. When those two goldfish got sick, I had moved my bristlenose pleco and 4 danios into a seperate tank. On the 5th day, my pleco died. No signs of anything except maybe if you squinted hard, he might have been starting with ich. The danios are fine. The 4th tiny goldfish from the original incident in my 10 gallon now also has cotton wool disease, and my 3 guppies in that same tank have ich. I'm at the point where I want to flush everything and either put it away or start new. I found ich-x on amazon, but it's not through prime, so it would take 2-3 weeks to arrive, and it's $64! I'm in Canada, where apparently the postal service desperately needs our money, so they charge eleventy-billion dollars to ship anything (lol sort of). Even if I can't get the exact thing you reccommend, you've still given me (yes, this sounds super cheesy) the will to go on! LOL Anyway, love your videos, I hope you keep making them. Thank you thank you thank you! A Canadian fan

I really want to thank you for this video. I watched it a few months ago and decided that you were right, it's better to have this on hand when needed than to suddenly need it and not be able to get it in time. I bought some and it's just been sitting in the cabinet unused, however, 4 days ago I had an Ich outbreak and 20+ fish were infected. I rewatched this video, pulled out the Ich-X and started treating them. As of today, I only see 1-2 spots on the fins of a couple of fish and I only lost one (the mostly severely infected little guy) and I can't thank you enough. I've never dealt with Ich before and was surprised how quickly it took hold. I observe my fish pretty well every day and by the time I saw it, one fish was covered in spots and the other 19 had them all over their fins. I think taking your advice and having this on hand saved my fish! Thank you!

@@karebearsanimalhouse7195 that's not actually correct. Your tank is a closed system, meaning the medicine remains in the water. You should only redose for the amount of water replaced.

Ich-X is am amazing product to have in your toolkit. I have been keeping fish for about 20 years and the one thing that I found amazing with this is that it's the only treatment iut there that can treat both ich and epistylis as well as fungal problems that can arise when sickness stresses your fish, and it won't kill your fish. Some fish are very sensitive to temperature changes and salt, like Cory said. I've also experimented with other methods that were suggested to my in the past and they worked in some case, while others it killed my fish. I always have a big bottle available for the just in case along with some metroplex to help with the bacterial infections. The best thing I can suggest is to study as much as you can about your fish and when treating for anything, always keep a close eye on them.

Right after the treatment I always do a 50% water change to remove some of the Ich medicine. Most of the Ich meds have copper as one of the main ingredients. Copper is harmfull to the fish liver, so the faster you remove it from your tank "without stressing your fish" the better it is.

I used Ich-X and purchased it locally. It cleared up the ich in a couple of days and I plan to use it again if any of my growing collection of tanks get it again. I originally purchased it at a lfs following Cory's recommendation, I'm content that his experience and knowledge are solid and very trustworthy, thanks Cory!

I know this was posted a long time ago but I came here to say that I couldn’t agree more! I’ve kept fish for many years, my whole life if you count my childhood. Since I started using Ich-x, and since I learned about the ins and outs of ich, I have not lost a single fish to ich. I’ve certainly had fish come down with it, but never a fatality. I use a combination of ich-x, heat, and salt when safe. If the fish in question can’t handle higher salinity or heat, I use whatever combination of those things is safe. I’ve used ich-x safely with plants, inverts, scaleless fish, and otherwise sensitive fish with no issue. 10 out of 10, highly recommend. The only other thing I would recommend aside from the instructions on the bottle is to treat the whole tank even if you QT the sick fish. If the ich is on one fish, it’s there and can infect the others. Last week, I bought my daughter a super red BN plecostomus. Two days later, in quarantine, huge case of ich. One week later, he’s completely cured. It works!

I wish I would've found this video sooner. I just splurged on a bunch of preventative medicines for my angels. I was debating on which Ich medicine to use and I overlooked this one. I'll get this one in addition to the other one sometime soon.

I've been running a retail fishroom for over 20 years, and have treated ich a thousand times. I concur! Ich-X works well, but really any formulation with formalin and malachite green does the trick. I have to stress to slavishly follow the directions on whichever formulation you choose, and PLEASE do the water changes indicated. As Corey said, Ich medication can kill your fish faster than disease if you are careless. Watch your fish like a hawk for the first 2 hours after adding the meds. If they seem irritated, off-balance, or are gasping at the surface, do a water change to dilute the medication. The usual suspects are Clown Loaches, Bala Sharks, and especially scaleless catfishes like Pictus Cats. Also, im glad to see corroboration on salt. I could talk for hours about everyone's favorite cure-all, but that's a serious can of worms. Maybe a good video idea?

Great stuff I bought it at a pet store a half hour from me for $15.80 before tax. I am so glad I found you. This was vary helpful. This was my first experience and the owner told me I should always expect that I have ICH. I have a sick red dalmatian sail fin Molly and it's his first day in a quarantine tank with ich. I've noticed he had clear spots in his poop. I've done melafix pimafix and now he's under ich-x. Because it treats saprolegniasis and trichodiniasis. I don't know what is wrong with him. But I'm not giving up. I don't know if your name starts with a c or a k but thank you Corey

10 gal Quarantine tank. Set up over a year under filtration and always been ready to go matching the ph of my other two tanks. Just in case. The only other fish I've had in the 10 gallon tank were 11 baby mollies. I did a c-section surgery on their mother after finding her dead in my 75 gallon.

I wasn't confident enough in myself to try the salt treatment so I ended up just buying ICHX and it worked amazing. One of my cichlids didn't make it though I think she was too sick by the time I finally got the treatment in the mail.

My peacocks and haps began scratching a few weeks after using cupramine for a mild ich outbreak. Thinking of using ich x as I have it on hand! None are showing white spots, but a few are scratching on the substrate. Any African Cichlid owners have success with ich X, and is there any issues with using prime along side ich x?

Thanks! I wish the cap of the Ich-X had measuring lines. It doesn’t. Instead it talks teaspoons. This could lead some to overdose.

I was treating a 75gallon tank. And although I was freaked out everything turned out well. It didn’t discolor my silicone and most importantly it didn’t kill my Kuhli loaches, snails or shrimp. Plus it works although I did treat for quite a while. I hope this helps!

I live In the UK. I use a combo of treatments, I use a generic white spot treatment from pets at home, half dose of salt and I defrost bloodworm with lots of fresh garlic puree. It takes a bit of effort but solves the problem.

Love the video and all the Coop content! Wish you guys would do videos on General Cure and Erythromycin too. I think at one point Cory said you should dose general cure and then repeat a few weeks later to kill any additional eggs. I’ve never heard this anywhere else and he has never brought it up again. I would be great if it was explain in its own video.

Only had ich once. Caught it early. Not sure the cause, probably lack of quarantine. Turned the temp up some and used Ich-X for a week. Problem solved and haven't had ich since then. Thanks, Cory!

It wasn’t clear from this video whether I should use ich-x while raising the temp, and using salt. Do you know if all three are better together?
@SClarkeOhlendorf2 жыл бұрын
@@lieslceleste3395 just the Ich-X should be sufficient. Raising the temp can also be ok, but don't raise it too much--the reason to raise the temperature is to speed up the lifecycle of the ich, so the infection is shorter. No healing properties of the increased heat. The salt can help with healing and slime coat rebuilding, I believe. Only use it if you're not running a planted tank or have salt tolerant plants AND salt tolerant fish/aquatic life. Nerite snails are fine with salt, but not necessarily all other snails. I'd personally run temp up and use Ich-X first for a few days, then also add the salt, but only in certain tanks (mine aren't all salt tolerant).
@lieslceleste33952 жыл бұрын
@@SClarkeOhlendorf Thanks for responding so quickly. It’s a large shubunkin goldfish. I’m not confident about raising the temperature. Room temp is around 75 anyway. Maybe I could use a heater to push it a little higher but maybe it’s not worth the effort. I was thinking of adding 1 TbS salt/5 gallons, I don’t know if it’d make him a least feel better or whether it’s worth it. I noticed the API ich meds have an antibiotic in it. Do you think I should add something like kanaplex or erythromycin to the water with the ich-x?
@SClarkeOhlendorf2 жыл бұрын
@@lieslceleste3395 glad to respond. Agreed, with a goldfish, I probably wouldn't raise the temp more. 75° should be plenty, for the fish and the ich. Erythromycin is the active ingredient in Fritz's Maracyn, which Aquarium Co-op says they use on all of their new fish, along with the Ich-X. They should be safe together and probably worth the extra expense to ensure the fish is healthy. If I recall correctly, some goldfish can tolerate brackish water, so the salt is probably ok for it. Don't quote me on that though... What about the other things in your tank though? May not be necessary, if you're going to use erythromycin anyway though.
@lieslceleste33952 жыл бұрын
@@SClarkeOhlendorf Thanks again. What I think precipitated this problem may have been high nitrates that weakened the fish. I thought maybe that was the only problem but the more I look closely, the more I see white on the tail. I was thinking about using an antibiotic in concert with the ich-x because he probably has a secondary infection due to the ich. I’ve been trying to get the nitrate down through water changes and using prime to protect the fish in the meantime. BTW, some say that you shouldn’t use prime with ich-x. Cory says he’s never had a problem though.

For tropicals, just turn the temp up to over 28c. No need for anything else. Cold species is the time for chemicals.

Hello Cory! Im a big fan of yours and always on track watching your videos . This is very informative. This is my 2nd time of battling with ick. Unfortunately last time I lose all of my rummynose and cardinal tetras due to a rookie mistakes i made. What i did was i caught all of them, put in a bucket then did the treatment. Now my worry is how to combat this time. My main problems is first there is no way for me to increase my temp to 86 farhenheit. The maximum temperature i can is up to 25 degree celsius. Im living in a room with mates and buying heater is really impossible as im living in a small island. Second im using different ick medication(how i wish your product is available here in Asia) Do hope somehow i can get your response. Thank you and more power!

Dr. Axlerod recommends two tablespoons of marine salt per gallon, which may not be good for a Dutch (planted) tank, but will kill the ich without throwing the nitrogen cycle into chaos. Other than salt creep and increased corrosion of metal near the tank, this works, as I have tried this; I did not lose a single fish. Salt in the water also help the fish with fluid exchange.
