I had a student, once, who came from Irak. During a lesson, we were studying tales and myths, and he told us about some of the monsters they fear in his country.

Since the Arabian Peninsula never had native wolves, it's more likely that Al-Qurtub is based on the jackal or the African wolf. 🤔
