My older mare was friends w/my friend Marie's horse.. The day they met they ran to each other like they were long lost buddies. They used to whinny back & forth when I went home & when we went up this hill close to their house they'd start calling each other. When her horse died suddenly Marie called. Next time to visit my mare started whinnying but no answer.. I bawled all the way to Marie's house. I let my horse run to the barn looking for her friend. Marie's family & I all bawling in the yard.. My mare did not like other horses so it was amazing.

Pete and Ziggy need their own little herd! I have to admit I am sad for Zig.😢 He's so good natured and in nature that can be perceived as weak. Dogs are the same way in a pack. Hopefully CC has an area that she can use for those 2 boys to bond or find him a special human for Ziggy. I wish I could take him but I only have room for 2 horses. But I am so drawn to Zig.

ME TOO! I think Goose is the problem. Goose has issues regardless of the herd. Zig was doing well till Goose joined. Were it me I would put Goose back in other herd to feel isolated again for his behavior! I really like Ziggy's sweetness and breeding. How Pete & Zig become good friends....I like Pete. I wonder if Pete and Zig would connect with more time and Studman too. Am sure combining horses is challenging!

I've had two Arabians, and they were pocket ponies. If I was out in the pasture Dancer would always be right there giving me "help". When I got him he was a 4 year old stallion, and wasn't broke, he was one of the easiest to break, and very smart. The first time I saw him he got away from the owner, and headed out to the pasture at a dead run. I was in love. I've always liked a horse with spunk. He came back and the guy lounged him around, and he reminded me of a dancer gliding over the ground without an effort. So I named him Shadow Dancer because he was a dapple gray, and made me think of shadows moving in the moonlight. We'd go out riding with no thought of where we would go, or how far. He was always ready to go, and was just as ready to do it all over again when we got home. I trusted him to take care of me, and he trusted me to take care of him.♥♥

Ziggy is so much like our Arabian mare. She lived with two adult horses and got along fine with them, but she actually preferred human attention. She followed us around the paddock and fields as we worked, just like a dog would do! What a good girl she was all the time, without a mean bone her body! My guess about Ziggy's "gazing" is that being accustomed to trail rides, he is wondering when he will go on another one. What a delight he is! All of us out here in " Fan Land" have become very fond of him!

It’s an Arabian thing. They are more people oriented than a herd bound. Mine would leave the bunch to come to me when I whistle. The far away look is because they like to travel. They want to see what’s over the next hill. One of the geldings would prick his ears way forward as he climbed the hill and would stand at the top and look all over at what was ahead.

That's my take on Ziggy's behavior. I get the impression that he's pondering what's over the next horizon and geared up to explore. He really needs a much more expansive environment and someone who is able take him out to explore the world often. CC's dedication, hardwork, and love in bringing him back to good health cannot be overstated, but sometimes we have to let go of who we love so that they may thrive. CC is really stretched to the limit going the extra mile to take care of these beautiful souls, especially with her chronic back problem - which requires a good long rest to actually heal (ie NO lifting). Sigh ...

That's exactly right! The gazing out to the distance while standing alone is typically Arab. I used to often let my mare pause when we crested a hill so she could just gaze; I always longed to know what was going through her mind when she did this.

My Anglo Arab (a grey Ziggy lookalike) liked humans best of all, but he was hand-reared after his dam died when he was three weeks old, and he would have moved into my house if I'd let him (he did make himself at home in the living room once, when I left the front door open). When it came to other horses, he got on well with mares, but barely tolerated geldings, and nearly chased one pony gelding to death when it broke into his field and couldn't outrun him. Watching Ziggy charge around reminds me of him so much.

I had Kerry for twenty years, he was an arabian, he was full of energy, always on the move, he loved being kept occupied, keenly intelligent and like Ziggy, often did the 'I want to be alone' thing ! He would still be head high and tail flagged cantering, when the rest of the herd (6) had stopped and said 'enough is enough' .. I think that wistful staring off into the distance is the way arabians daydream of challenges and adventures. I do think you are going to love your time with Ziggy CC. I watch Ziggy and I just love seeing him move. He's wonderful.

Arabians are so fascinating.. I have loved them since I was a kid. Bedouin’s horses were so treasured that they slept inside the tents with their families. He just hasn’t had enough time to form a close bond with you yet probably. Also so much competition for your attention. Maybe he could be yours forever and that bond would happen? It must be hard on such a sensitive breed to work on a dude ranch with new people every day. No one to bond with really. 🤷🏻‍♀️💚

I get the strong sense Ziggy may be missing a mare, and he doesn’t feel this is his home. (Maybe he would if he had a girlfriend.) It may be CC needs to give herself a bit of break time from rehabbing, enjoy more diverse trail experiences with Zig as she looks for his ideal forever home. I will greatly miss seeing Zig when he goes. He is my favorite and I loved seeing them on the trail. Actually, I love everything about him! CC does fantastic work and cares so much for these animals, I am confident whatever her decision , it will ultimately work out well for Zig. I think I am gonna mail them both a care package. :)

CC is trying to do what's best for Ziggy. If she decides he needs to be kept because he's unlikely to do well with someone else, that's what she will do. If she thinks he'll do well with someone else and she finds someone suitable to care for him, she'll send him onward. By the looks of things he will be staying at least through the winter. Also, as CC has pointed out, if she keeps Ziggy, that's one less horse that she can rehabilitate and potentially send on to a better life elsewhere. I am personally fine with that because there's no way for any single person to help them all and I think CC has more than proven she's not a selfish person when it comes to these horses. However, it's definitely something she has to consider when making that call.

Loved today's video. My heart is with Ziggy and has been since day one. I told you that when I lived in AZ years ago I got a gorgeous young gelded Arab from one of the most prestigious Arabian Ranches in Scottsdale. My girlfriend was Arabian addicted and convinced me to go to an auction out there with her. She said that the particular ranch has way too many colts born of late and they had culled out the ones they thought were best for show quality and the rest were gelded so they could be auctioned. I don't even remember what I got him for, but it was a deal for sure. Trouble was I did not have any business getting an Arabian much less a young one that only had halter training and that was it. He was so beautiful though, I had a big piece of desert property and I loved watching him run just like Ziggy did on this video. Even though Ziggy isn't a super bred Arab he still has the lovely motion of floating as he runs with the tail up and the head up, it brought back memories for me. My little gelding loved my company, he acted much like a huge dog than a horse, he talked to me all the time and he was NOT interest in my other two horses...one was quarter/thoroughbred, the other was all quarter and retired barrel racer. It was like it is with you there. It was different however when I would walk my Arab down to the neighbors , she had three Arabs, all geldings. My guy would start hollering as soon as we laid eyes on my friends Arabs, and from day one we could put them in the same paddock and it was like a family reunion! Arabs have differences from other horses that is a fact and I think they actually prefer being with other Arabs and that is what I found with my horses like yours, they wanted to chase the Arab and he was all too happy to let them just try and catch him!!! I learned from all the Arab horse owners in AZ that the Arabians do most of the time enjoy humans company especially certain ancestral lines. They lived with their humans the out in the deserts even sleeping in their tents with them. They were raised like children, fawned over, taken really good care of, and treasured even more than their wives and children by the menfolk. I hope you find a young Arab maybe again at one of the auctions, maybe a filly or a young mare, maybe Ziggy would like that.

My Arabian gelding didn't seem to care if he was alone, either. Arabians in general bond to their riders almost like a dog bonds to their person, but it takes them some time to decide if you're trustworthy. Once they do you can count on them to take care of you. I'm so envious, I wish I were 15 years younger!

Arabians are amazing horses. They retain everything that happens in their lives, whether it be good or bad. Super smart and loyal. I found that if they have had something bad in their lives, it takes a good while for them to unlearn the bad. I had one to teach that had been badly mistreated by a man. It took about 6 months for him to accept the fact that my father was ok and not going to cause him any pain. The change in him when he understood that was amazing. He actively sought my father out when my father wasn't working. It was just wonderful 😊

I always love to see Goose, even when he's being a bit of a mean boy. I think a lot of people telling CC to sell Goose and keep Ziggy don't understand if she had to choose, she would choose the other way around. Ziggy is very sweet, well trained and well behaved, and there's someone out there ready to love him as he deserves. Goose has a lot of trauma regarding his handling, and it would be incredibly difficult to find anyone with CC's patience and compassion for him... and he could very easily end up being mistreated again. It sucks that he bullies other horses, but he clearly does it because of his past experiences, and CC does a wonderful job trying to ensure everyone's wellbeing ❤

The way she's talking, it sounds like she's halfway to convincing herself she needs to keep Ziggy because of his difficulty getting along with other horses. But I agree with you. If she sold Goose, not only might he end up in a bad situation again, but an equally big concern is that a horse with a traumatic past like that could end up hurting someone who didn't know how to handle him or getting hurt as a result of his reaction. Goose's behavior with other horses is definitely a problem, but I'm confident CC will figure it out.

Ziggy is smaller and not that young. The other horses are much heavier than him, and a little aggressive. He's just protecting himself.

I myself have an arabian and I know several other arabians. They need a friend that's not pushy and that doesn't chase after them, when they want to get away from them. Yes, they can have fun running with friends but Ziggy in this video is running because he is stressed out by the other horses. The fact that he most likely lived in big herds in the past doesn't mean that he handled it well. Arabians are very sensitive. If he got chased by other horses before he remembers that and he could be stressed out even more than a "normal" arabian, when encountering horses that run after him when he tries to get distance between him and them.

That's exactly how it looked to me. CC's narrative even said "frantic". All Ziggy has to defend himself is speed. I cried through that whole part of the video; then thought I'd probably overreacted, watched it again and cried all over again! Guess I've gotten too attached!

I think you're right...about Ziggy missing someone. I watched this carefully and you were saying in your narrative what I was myself thinking and feeling. It's like he was casting his soul far out into the world, seeking for someone---whether horse or human, unknown. Perhaps he was looking for his future though, not his past.

It seems he still has some issues that you are seeking answers for.…& you yourself are contending with your back needing management, looking for a new property, continuing with Scarlett's training…caring for the older horses & then there's Skeletor. You have enough on your plate right now, plus a KZbin channel, videoing, editing etc. l agree with what you've voiced here. 🎁🐎Why not just keep Ziggy…at least for now & perhaps even long term or 'forever'? Ziggy can help you too now. Both of you get time "away from it all'. He's a trustworthy, willing horse who knows the ropes…while Friscoe Bill, your 'old Faithful' is getting too old to ride much now? I have a Ziggy lookalike I got a few months back, he's a dapple Nooitgedacht x Arabian. I've started training him for long-distance and he's loving it. Such a unique personality (he literally looks and acts like the cartoon horse from Tangled) and wonderful nature, even though he has an ugly reputation in the area from his time with the previous owner. It's taken a lot of work to earn his trust... and many times people have told me I bought a terrible horse, but since we've started endurance riding together he's blooming, and it's pretty amazing to see. They truly are incredible animals.

well it won’t hurt Ziggy to get the extra exercise. He is such a sweet boy and getting quite the barrel on him. He looked gorgeous flying by the other boys. Pete trying to herd Stuewie away from Ziggy was pretty cool. It made me love Pete even more. ❤

If you look at his overall body and neck, his neck is still a bit too thin (though that may be because he's an older animal and has trouble building muscle) and his muscle tone in general isn't where it ought to be. Honestly, to me, he has looked more toned and healthy in previous recent videos than this one. Not sure if it's just my perception or if he's lost some condition recently. He definitely does need some exercise and supplements to help him build back up before winter hits in those mountains. That being said, with his neck looking scrawny and nothing but his belly looking big, I'm not sure if he's overweight or if maybe there's some other issue. I'm not an expert or a horse owner though, and I fully accept that I could be 100% wrong.

You just gotta (!!!) make sure Ziggy gets the right owner.....maybe they could arrange for him to have "play days" or "sleepovers" if they're a serious prospect for his ultimate home. That Ziggy is a super sweet, super happy horse!!! ❤❤❤
