One of the things that show how adored she was is the fact that the Astrodome scene in the movie with Jennifer López was made entirely with fans. No extras were hired for this. Everyone just wanted to honor her memory...

Some fun facts about Selena: * She broke the attendance record at the Houston Astrodome with over 64k fans that night. * This was her last and biggest concert right before she died, basically her goodbye concert. * She won a Grammy at only 22 years of age and was nominated for another one the same year she was killed. She also won another Grammy in 2021 for "lifetime achievement." * She kept winning all the awards in her genre, causing many artists to stop attending award shows knowing she would win. * She broke into Mexico, selling millions of records and gaining recognition from other big names in the industry. * She was in the process of recording an English album right before she was killed, only managing to record 4 tracks for that album. * When the album was released shortly after her death, it became the fastest-selling album in history, surpassing Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and even Michael Jackson. * Jennifer Lopez had a breakthrough with her portrayal of Selena, becoming the first Latina to be paid over 1 million dollars for a film. * There have been movies, Netflix shows, statues, museums, and books in her name, and she also has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. * Huge cosmetic brands have released collections in her name, selling out in just 24 hours. * Her family has released several albums after her passing. To this day, Selena has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. * Cities in Texas have held huge festivals in her name, attracting thousands of fans. * She has her own museum in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. * I could continue, but I would never end, lol.

We had the honor of attending this, what would be, her final concert. It was for the Houston rodeo and the record for the highest attendance was broken that night. She was a beautiful light that was extinguished WAY TO SOON. I like to think that she would be as big as Beyoncé, Adele, Taylor, etc… if she had lived. She was working on a full English language crossover album which is funny because English was her first language. She had to learn Spanish to be able to sing the songs she did. You should react to the opening of this concert, as they are all disco songs she grew up with. Love your reactions!!!! Stay well ❤❤❤

The baddest, hardest mexican vato will take his girl to the dance floor when her songs come on. No matter what. I dont think a true Texan can get through her Astrodome performance without choking up. Theres some concerta where she would have a line of men come up and dance a couple steps with her. She was ours and she was from us.
@victorialopez9717 Жыл бұрын
At the end, she was thanking the audience, those from Texas and those who came over from Mexico to see her. She told them to give themselves a round of applause and then hugs and kisses from her to every one of them. She was very appreciative of her fans. While she loved her fans in the US, I think she was even more appreciative of her Mexican fans because when she started her career, she wasn't fluent in Spanish and there was concern that she wouldn't be accepted because she wasn't from Mexico herself AND because she was a woman (there were very few successful female artists in this style of music at the time and she opened doors for so many after her).

Ahhhh, I'm crying!!! You definitely have to do more Selena😭😭😭 A curious fact is that Michael Jackson was her role model, and when she was younger she went to his show there in the Astrodome and she dreamed of becoming a huge star and having her own show there, and she did it before passing. Her story is simply heartbreaking. Her life was taken away when she was only 23 by this disgusting lady (who's being released in 2025). She was so talented and beautiful. She would have become the greatest Latina artist of all time. It's really sad how she was saying goodbye, when she says "Mil abrazos y mil besotes a cada uno de ustedes. Cuídense muchísimo y nos vemos muy pronto", which means "A thousand hugs and thousand kisses to each one of you. Take care of yourselves and see you soon": there was no see you soon! 😭 Gone, but never forgotten. Rest in peace Queen! P.S: There was a part when she says "Cumbia". That's a Latino musical genre, which is basically the genre of the song she's singing.

Facts about this concert: This was the last time Selena ever sang. When she says goodbye here on this video she is saying goodbye forever. She was killed 33 days later. After this night she recorded songs in English which became number 1 after her death. This concert set a record with 70,000 people that night. The most in the history of the Astrodome, in Houston Texas.
@PhxVanguard Жыл бұрын
This concert set the record for largest crowd in the history of the Astrodome to that date. The record she broke was her own from the year before. Impressive, but the most impressive thing to me is that she was a pioneer at 23. her english language album release ended up being massive, here, across latin america and in canada. "i could fall in love" ended up being the first english language song to top the spanish language charts and to this day you can hear her played on radio stations and in clubs all over. being from the desert southwest, i can tell you when bidi bidi bom bom or amor prohibido or como la flor come on, the dance floor will still go wild and people sing along. she is one of those rare people that you can see from home videos, candid interactions with local media, fans, etc, she was exactly what she appeared to be. she knew how to laugh, not take herself too seriously, she could joke and be funny. she was never full of herself. if she had been allowed to live to 40 or 50, i think she would have been as big as names she has been compared to like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion.

Thank you for watching this 7abibi. This concert at the Astrodome was part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (commonly just called "the rodeo" here), an annual event that lasts several weeks each February-March and attracts major musical artists each year. Back in the old days it was basically all country music but gradually began to expand to other genres. In the late 80s they discovered Latino music could be a great draw. I didn't attend this particular concert (less than two months before she died), but I did see her appearance at the rodeo the previous year (1992). You have to understand, Selena wasn't just a musical star. She was ADORED like a sister or a daughter by everyone who knew her. After her death, so many millions of people in Houston and beyond were in shock and in mourning. For weeks people would drive around with their headlights on in broad daylight as a tribute. Special masses at Catholic churches in Mexican American neighborhoods were held to honor her. It was such a loss, one we still feel to this day. Rest in peace Selena, we all love you.

It's amazing that you understood the monumental impact losing Selena had on not only the latin community but the music industry at large from just ONE performance. I completely agree with you, the music scene would have been vastly different had Selena been able to crossover and grow into her English sound. (But not just the music industry as she was dipping her toes into acting roles, as well. She had a small role in a Spanish soap opera and a small role in the movie Don Juan DeMarco which stars Johnny Depp, Marlon Brando, and Faye Dunaway.)

I was too young to ever recognize at that time the 90% of the music being played by my family members around me where her songs. When I saw the movie and knew the words to almost every song she sang, even as a young boy I couldn't hold back the tears. She wasn't just famous, there was more about her. The people looked up to her like an angel floating overhead. As big as she was, she was just starting to get popular.
