Selena's three Astrodome appearances were during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which draws the cream of country and Tejano groups. Selena was the first person to sell out the Astrodome, and that's saying A LOT considering acts that preceeded her, like The Rolling Stones, Elvis and many others. I saw the show. Her shows sold out in minutes, so I volunteered to work security at minimum wage to see the show. This appearance was in 1995, just weeks before her sudden and untimely death. Selena was 23 years old when she was killed by her fan club president Yolanda Saldivar with a gun shot though her back right shoulder. Selena was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and raised there. She was Hispanic American and was fluent in English and proficient in Spanish in which she became fluent in Spanish at the start of her music career which started in the mid 80's. Selena's music career gain popularity in the late 80's and early 90's and quickly became an instant hit and icon to Texas, Mexico, and the U.S. This song was from her last album which was put out in '94. This performance took place in Houston Texas at the Astrodome during the last week of February 1995 and unfortunately was killed a month later in Corpus Christi, Texas on March 31, 1995. She is loved and held close to the Hispanic communities in Texas, Mexico, and the US to this day. We will always love and hold Selena close to our hearts and soul, RIP sweet sweet Selena, our angel.

April 16th is her birthday. I had the absolute privilege and pleasure of seeing her a few times in the late 80s when they would play at dance halls throughout the U.S. South West. Her laugh and smile were contagious. - TEJANO (or TEX-MEX) is the genre of music and it is an American thing. The style of song is called a CUMBIA - Her husband (guitar), sister (drums), brother (bass/ songwriter), father (manager) and Selena (singer/ songwriter/ stylist) - At the end of the concert she thanked everyone because they broke the attendance record - Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez (who is actually named after her) are a few singers who have mentioned Selena as an influence *Suggestion: "No Me Queda Mas"*

I am a native Houstonian and was there for this performance at the Astrodome. It was one of the first concerts I had ever been to and as a young 14 yr old boy I fell in love with Selena that night. There is still such a huge hole that everybody who listened to this music still feels almost 30 years later. As a quick background, Houston has the livestock show and rodeo everyday for a few weeks in early spring. Every night after the rodo events there is a concert, traditionally it was a country singer, but they started doing 'go tajano' nights in the early 90's where they would have a tajano star perform that night. Now pop singers are very common. Selena was a huge star at the time in the Tajano scene and was just about to cross over into mainstream music when she performed that night and was murdered a couple months after. I am over the moon excited that Selena's music still finds new fans. :)

This performance was in 1995. She died a few months after this I believe. They broke the attendance record previously set by Michael Jackson that night, she says it in this performance. Bidi bidi bom bom is amazing, pretty much all songs from the Amor Prohibido album. La carcacha, Techno Cumbia. Selena y los Dinos technically played Tejano music but with Selena’s Donna Summer and Janet Jackson influences as well as the whole bands identity as Mexican American, their style was very eclectic, incorporating flamenco, reggae, mariachi and pop. Even some metal guitar once in a while haha. Her brother produced and wrote most songs and played the guitar and her sister played drums and just overall worked in the family business. Selena designed all her costumes and did her own hair and makeup. She was an incredibly gifted dancer, which you’ll see in many of her live performances, and performer all around. Incredibly musical and with so much experience at there young age of 23. Her father managed her and her sibling from kids, a similar story to that of the Jackson’s. At the time of her death Selena owned boutiques that had hair and nail salons, she designed the clothing sold, she had a perfume coming out, was doing small acting roles, and was recording her first cross over fully English album, her dream. So yes you’re right she was at the top of her game when the tragedy occurred. It’s sad seeing how much fashion and performance influence she had in her short time and for us Chicano’s and Mexican Americans, she was representing beautifully, everything we are. It’s hard not to think what could’ve been. But her popularity will never disappear, she is forever an icon in our culture. Oh and yes she learned Spanish starting at like 8 or 9 in order to sing Spanish music lol but she is Mexican, just born in Texas, she’s both :)

I actually attended this concert by chance. We had gotten free tickets and decided to go because we wanted to see the rodeo. I had heard of Salena at that time but hadn't heard any of her music. She was so talented and the concert was so much fun. I was devastated when on March 31st 1995, alittle over a month later it was announced over the radio she had been murdered. She was murdered by the president of her fan club who was embezzling money from her. Her crossover album she had been working on at the time of her death, was released in July 1995. It debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first album by a Hispanic artist to do so.

So, in answer to your question, this performance was in 1995, actually just a handful of weeks before she died. She was shot and killed in Corpus Christi, Texas, by a woman named Yolanda Saldivar, who used to be a close friend and a member of her staff. She was absolutely incredible, and even though she only lived to be 23, she left a lasting mark on the American and Mexican music scene. Specifically, she performed in the Tejano genre, which is native to Texas, and her brother and sister actually played in her band (they were Selena y Los Dinos, if you want to look them up). She dreamed of making it big as a diva pop star, though, and had just recorded her first English album. Many American celebrities believe that if she had lived, she would have grown to be just as huge as all the other divas. She was already well on her way.

I told her to never give up because this is what she was born to do. I said you're going to be the biggest star of them all. She was very shy and sweet. I saw and talked to her again at the Texas music awards in 1994. She was 22. She was already huge in Tehano music. We had another encounter that night. She was just as sweet as she could be! I loved her. I felt like we were friends. She was recording an English language album. She was ready to cross over. She didn't speak Spanish when she was young. She was Mexican American but believed if she could appeal to her culture. and make a name for herself, she could then move on. This performance at the Astrodome in Houston, I believe it was her last before her senseless death. I didn't think I could make it through my own show that night. I was going to cancel it but decided to try and get through it for her. I dedicated my performance to her and did several songs I had not rehearsed that I thought she would like. It still breaks my heart!

Selena Quintanilla-Perez most commonly known as just "SELENA" is of Mexican decent. She was born in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was the undisputed Queen of Tejano music (Tex-Mex). She started singing at the age of 9. Selena was the lead singer for her family band "Los Dinos" which was comprised of her sister Suzette on drums, and brother A.B. on bass. Her father was their manager and her mother made the costumes. Later on her husband, Chris would join the band, on lead guitar/bass🎸. Selena sang in parties, Quinceañeras, weddings, fairs, etc. "Como La Flor" was her first #1 hit. The song was written en composed by her brother A.B. He was also Selena's producer. Selena was a singer songwriter, spokeswoman, model, actress, dancer, fashion designer, and philanthropist. Selena designed and sewed all the outfits for her performances, and for the band. Selena had 2 boutiques that sold her designs. She was 5he spokeswoman for Coca Cola and other brands. She made a video and gave speeches on staying in school. She did charity work for HIV/AIDS. She sang in English and Spanish. She learned English to speak with her Latino audiences. Selena sang Tejano, Cumbia, Pop, Latin Pop, Rock, Country, Ranchera/Mariachi, Techno, Folk music, and R&B. The won a Grammy in 1994, and win many Tejano Music Awards ( 7 years consecutively), Billboard Latino, and Premio Lo Nuestro. Selena had a MAC cosmetic line, that sold-out immediately. She has a wax figure in Madam Trousseau Museum. Former President George Bush declared April 16th, Selena Day (her Birthday). She has a Star in Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a commerative U.S. stamp. Selana Gomez was named after Selena, and many artist have been influenced by Selena: Selena Gomez, J Lo, Shakira, Beyoncé, Becky G, Karol G, Daddy Yankee, Ivy Queen, Solange, Mariah Carey, Alicia Villareal, Soraya, David Archuleta, and others. Selena broke barriers in the male dominated genre of Tejano music, and was a style icon. Some of her fashion contributions can still be seen today. Selena was about to do a cross-over to English music when she passed. Her album was released posthumously. Two of her hits are " Dreaming of You" and " I Could Fall In Love". Some of her Spanish hits are Como la Flor, Amor Prohibido, Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, El Chico del Apartamento 512, La Llamada, Techno Cumbia, Si Una Vez, La Carcacha, Baila Esta Cumbia, Fotos Y Recuerdos, Donde Quieras que Estés, No Debes Jugar, Buenos Amigos, No Me Queda Más, and Tú Solo Tú. She was murdered by Yolanda Saldivar on March 31, 1995. She was 23 years old. This video was part of her Last concert ( not appearance) in February , one month before her untimely death. Yolanda was her fan club manager, boutique manager, and friend. She is still remembered around the world for her talent, charisma, and generosity. Selena's notable features were her beauty, smile, humbleness, and humility. 😢❤ JLo played her in the Biopic "Selena". It was the performance that made her famous. There is a Netflix series titled "Selena" you might like. 🤔 Another artist you might like is Amanda Miguel.

@@mandoc4297 First of all, don't call me dude. Second. Como la Flor was the first #1 hit with Los Dinos. Third, Selena had 2 boutiques, one in Corpus Cristi and one in San Antonio (Texas). She was making arrangements to open another boutique in Monterrey, Mexico. AND lastly, I never said she wasn't fluent in English. I said she was born in Texas, and she was doing the cross-over to English music. Her career was based on singing in Spanish. She was the Queen of Tejano music, which is music mostly sung in Spanish. She was born and raised in Texas; therefore, it is obvious she was fluent in English. So, it would be redundant to say she was fluent in English. However, she did learn Spanish, to be able to communicate with her audience better. I did mention it, But it fact that most people already know. And, yes you are being negative. I love to see people who have not heard of Selena react to her songs. She is my idol. She eas born in lake jackson tx, on april 16 1971, passed on march 31 1995 by her fan club president. Her first language was english. She learned to sing in spanish phonetically, she then learned to speak it. I was at this concert.

She was from Corpus Christi, Texas and was absolutely loved and adored by all. AND you’re right… her smile said it all. When she was murdered by her fan club president, it truly knocked the wind out of the Latino community! She literally felt like she could be your little sister. She was at the point of crossing over to main stream pop when all of this took place. After all of these years, her music still makes us all cry here in our home. Such a senseless loss. Recommendations: If I Could Fall In Love, Dreaming Of You, No Me Queda Mas, and Siempre Hace Frio! The speech at the end was her sending thousands of kisses to the audience. They broke the record for selling out the Astrodome.

Selena had such a huge impact and her music continued to be huge even after she passed. I was 2 when she passed and I still remember growing up and still watching this whole concert on TV because they would play it every year. If you ever get the chance you should watch this whole concert but as far as another performance I would recommend "El chico del Apartamento 512" from this same concert. You can truly feel her energy and joy in this.

I live for Selena reactions on KZbin. She’s loved all over the world and continues to bring joy to people’s lives with her music and her beautiful personality. She has so many hits but my personal favorites are “Baila Esta Cumbia”, “Como La Flor”, “Amor Prohibido”, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom”, “I Could Fall In Love” and “Dreaming Of You”. ❤

I didn't grow up knowing her music either. I happened to see the movie about her life with Jennifer Lopez playing her and I got into her music that way. The songs of hers that I like are Amor Prohibido, Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, No Me Queda Mas, La Caracha, Baila Esta Cumbia and I Could Fall In Love. Such a tragedy that she was so young when she died. Only 23 when she died. Love your reactions

She's an icon. A trailblazer. I grew up in the American Southwest and I cannot tell you how many times I've seen the movie about her life! It was what they always seemed to put on when the teachers were out sick. It's still not unusual to see people wearing her Tshirts when I'm out shopping. RIP Queen of Tejano , gone far too soon

At the end she's basically saying "thank you for coming out tonight, million of thanks and kisses and each and every one of you, see you next time" All of her songs are phenomenal, one song artist that I recommend to anyone and everyone. The energy one feels is always one where you just want to get up and dance the day/night away

Selena was from Corpus Cristi Texas but was Mexican-American. She sang in Spanish but had to learn to speak Spanish to communicate with the public and in interviews. She sang Mexican-style Cumbias. The original CUMBIA(S) is from Colombia (South America) and her style of dance was the Mexican style cumbia dance.

Her brother AB wrote & arranged this song for her...she was definitely living her best life here...she had just gotten married, she was getting ready to do an English crossover album (people didn't know she spoke English as her first language)..losing her was just one of the saddest events...everyone was so affected, including me...such a terrible loss to the world...thank you for this reaction & I hope you fall down the Selena rabbit hole!!!

Oh my gosh your reaction had ME in tears! You instantly felt and understood what makes Selena so extraordinary and as a diehard Selena fan, it fills my heart to see people discover her and immediately fall in love. Her story is tragic. Someone so talented and beautiful (on the inside and out) making the most of every day she had, to be taken away and snuffed out like she was is just an impossible heartbreak that I don't think anyone will ever get over. The hardest part outside of her just not being here is knowing that she made the most of every day she had and did with a love of people and life that you rarely see. She was pure joy. It's so bittersweet to watch her performances--it's pretty cool you picked up on that immediately. Your reaction video really resonated with me! Watch Selena everything....she's never disappointing!! Thanks for the feels!

She says at this 1995 concert farewell: "Houston, Texas.....and brothers from Mexico, we want to thank you for making this night possible, we broke the record (attendance at the Astrodome), hugs and kisses to each one of you. Take care and see you later, bye, see you soon. Thank you so much. Thank you very much, Houston, Texas, thank you very much, thank you!" She was and is a big star in North America (USA, Mexico and Canada) and Central and South America and other countries. Jennifer Lopez played her in the 1997 film "Selena: The Movie" about her life and career.

It has been more than a quarter of a century since she passed and I still get very teary eyed when I hear her name. Had she lived, she would have been a superstar! She was beautiful, sexy, super talented, nice human being--- she had it all! I'm from Chicago. Last year we had a concert at Pritzker Pavillion (best outdoor music venue in the world) featuring many artist performing Selena's songs. The amazing thing was seeing so many young girls (5 years old and up) who knew all the lyrics to her songs. It was so well attended that this is going to be an annual event. God bless you Selena and RIP. We miss you very much.

Great reaction!, Comes to show you the type of artist and human being she was,...She had, and has that impression on people that see her for the first time like you., I know that there were other artists, like her young that were gone before their time but, Selena in my opinion,is THE saddest one of all.. She's the biggest " what could have been if she were here today". She still resonates today after 28 years.. here are a few English songs: Missing my baby I could fall in love The disco medley( at the start of this concert) her early years : Michael Jackson covers don't stop till you get enough Billie jean, Janet Jackson: when I think of you Where did the feeling go My love Is it the beat. R.I.P ANGEL.🙏🌹

I am Dominican and her death marked one of the darkest days of my entire childhood. She was my idol. And what an idol to have: talent, beauty, kindness, humbleness, she was the entire package. She had the it package. She was on the precipice of her entire life… this was all just the beginning for her. She’s an angel now for sure.

I haven't heard Selena's music in almost over ten years other than occasional quips from Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. Watching this, hearing Como La Flor, got me really emotional really fast. Nothing terrible really, but really, just another aspect of my childhood that I miss greatly. Glad to have grown up during this time..

It doesn't take long brother!! Selena had that special affect on people. I'm 42. I'll be 43♎ next month. From SE San Antonio,TX, now SW Pasadena,TX. Most of my family is between San Antonio and Houston. The others are in Northern California. She definitely was my favorite female singer crush growing up. She'd be amazed at how truly loved she is😢by the hundreds of millions. Probably a billion by now💯 Watched her plenty of times on local tv, and on Telemundo, Univision and Galavision. Radio as well. Eternal Love for the Tejano Latina Queen👑💎 I held back tears for 2 years until that movie came out. Miss her dearly. She was truly an Angel On Earth💔

Selena was Mexican American. Her ancestors were from Northern Mexico. She even used slang from that region , e.g. "raza". She mentioned that she didn't take dance nor singing classes, she spend all her life doing so and she was self-taught

I was at a casino that had a live band inside playing. They normally do songs popular innthe 80s 90s 00s in english. They started playing Selena songs and that normally tiny corner of the casino turned into a full on Selena club of everyone singing and dancing. Forty people turned into 400 people in that part of the building. You could feel that in that moment we were all connected in this experience in our love for Selena. It was a fuckin party. And I loved every second of it.
