Today, I popped my Arai cherry! The XL fits PERFECTLY! Even with wearing glasses, just perfect. Got a superb deal from Sports Bike Shop Leeds. Always struggled with Arais bcos I have such a huge noggin, 62.5cm, but the XL fits perfectly!

Just bought one today, cannot agree more with you. I've only been riding 2 years, been on a mad spree, and lots of money spent on helmets. ( had 4 in 2 years), and this is unmatched in quality. Finally, finally found a perfect lid. Unbelievable how comfy it is.

Currently have an X-14 and riding on an MT10-Sp, for the sporty riding is the helmet position similar to the X-14 visor view wise? Thanks

It's a while now since I reviewed either helmet, and it wasn't done back-to-back, but I have more positive memories of the peripheral vision from the Shoei (the X-14 is an X-Spirit 3 in the UK). The Shoei is a race helmet and the Arai a road helmet, so I would expect the Shoei to be better in the sporty riding position. Cheers, Tony

Hi! How quiet would you say it is while riding with a touring/naked bike? It should be quieter than the rx7v evo, right? Thanks! P.s. also, safetywise, is it the same as the rx7v evo?

I don't get drawn into the quiet/noisy thing if at all possible as there are so many variables, not least each rider's expectations of what is quiet and noisy. I just put good earplugs in and get on with it. As for safety, both the Quantic and RX7-V Evo are certified to the latest ECE 22.06. Cheers, Tony

I'm stuck between *Quantic* and *Chaser-X,* they're about same price, Chaser-X has *SFL2* outer shell and *Snell + ECE 22-05,* Quantic has *PB E-CLC* and *ECE 22-06* (same as Profile-V). I'm new at this motorcycle world but safety is all that matters for me. I'm gonna buy 250cc naked touring bike. I heard that ECE follows FIM but I'm confused about these shell types and certificates. Which one would be better for safety? or am I being too paranoid? 😅 Thanks a lot for review

This is possibly the most complicated question of all to answer because, as far as I understand it, the safest helmet for one type of impact won't necessarily be the safest for another. The tests are designed to make sure helmets meet minimum requirements in a range of different impact speeds and types. For your circumstances I would be perfectly happy with any of the helmets you mention as I would be confident the tests within ECE 22.05 will cover what you need. But if you want to cover the widest range of possible impacts, and maximum safety is your absolute priority, then I would expect a helmet passing the new ECE 22.06 (the Quantic) is the one to go for. In this model we cannot replaceable neck roll for cleaning. To me its quite downside. Why Arai?

Over the past 50 years I've owned and worn lots of helmets including Arai, Shark, HJC, Bell and one or two other makes I can't remember - of course in the early 1979's wearing open faced helmets. I can't remember any full faced helmet where the vents seemed to do anything noticeable. Opening and closing the vents didn't seem to make any difference whatsoever and I've always instead depended on the screen - adjusting it up and down by varying degrees. For me, after visibility and comfort, the make or break factor - far superseding ventilation - has always been wind noise. But unfortunately it's one factor that you can't road test and assess - until after you have bought a helmet. You can therefore either be lucky ... or very unlucky. I could be wrong but I suspect that modern helmets which have recesses to accommodate ear pieces (for music or communication) serve to exacerbate wind noise?

Some venting set-ups are very effective. Schuberth's recent helmets are especially strong in this area, and HJC's recent helmets are also much improved. It always depends on how much airflow can reach the helmet as big screens usually block off much of it. The trouble with noise, from my perspective, is being able to give people an accurate idea of what they can expect in their own circumstances. It's dependent on so many factors that it would be very easy to mislead people, in either direction. I think the recesses for speakers possibly make noise worse, which is why many come with sound-deadening foam inserts that need to be removed to make room for the speakers. More likely to make the noise worse is the intercom itself. Air hitting a control module hanging off the side of the lid tends to generate noise. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

Hi, what are the standard inner liner and cheek pad thicknesses in the Aria Quantic? I’m trying to determine if I can get away with size large with a thinner inner liner as there is slight temple pressure, but the fit elsewhere is perfect, or do I have to go to XL for the length and get thicker cheek pads as the fit is loose on the sides. Standard sizes for XL and L are the same (25mm cheek, 7mm skull). There is a 5mm skullpad available if you wanted to try slimming the L down slightly. If you went for a padded-out XL, there are 10mm and 12mm skullpads available. Cheekpad options are 12mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm and 35mm. If you're buying from certain retailers, including ourselves, you can exchange the standard padding for a different size at no extra cost. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

Notice the Quantic you reviewed hasn't got an ACU Gold sticker, mine hasn't either but I've seen them for sale that have the sticker - Do you know why some have the ACU sticker and some don't ?..

Ours was an early review helmet that came from the UK importer, though it was still a full production spec lid. I would expect that those without the sticker are 'parallel' imports - as in they were not brought into this country by the official UK importer. If you need an ACU Gold sticker, it's best to contact the official Arai importer - www.moto-direct.com/ or even the ACU themselves - www.acu.org.uk/. The XS has 35mm cheekpads and 10mm skullpad. The small is 30mm at the cheeks and 7mm at the head. The EPS liner is the same for the two sizes. Cheers, Tony

Hi - apologies but I don't wear spectacles while riding so I can't comment on the suitability. There are no customer reviews yet to suggest whether it will work. There's nothing in the product literature to say it's been designed specifically for specs wearers, or with adaptability, so it will come down to your particular specs I'd suggest. Is the head shape round oval, intermediate oval or long oval? Aria typically classifies their helmets by head shape.

I've just heard back from Arai's UK importer on this. They say all Arai European helmets are now intermediate oval head shape. My head is closer to the round shape (it's near enough as wide as it is long) and I found the Quantic very comfortable to wear, as I have all Arais we've reviewed recently. I have an Arai Quantic, it is definitely the loudest helmet I have ever had, I'm looking at something different already as it's an echo chamber and unbearable to use, even with ear plugs in. It has unfortunately really put me of Arai.

With the 5 sizes using only 3 shells, does Small share the same shell as the XS or M?

From the customer reviews, 17 people describe the helmet noise in a positive or neutral light and only two people refer to noise levels as a negative for this helmet. There's no perfect response to this as it's impossible to know how a helmet will respond to the conditions in which you ride, but I hope this helps in some way. Cheers, Tony

It's two years since I wore this lid, so hard to remember. There's nothing in my notes about noise, which suggests it wasn't an issue. And, yes - I wore earplugs. I have worn earplugs since my early days of riding and very rarely find in-helmet noise to be a problem for me. Cheers, Tony
