Honestly, I think he wrote Rohan that way specifically because he was projecting through him from the beginning. It’s pretty interesting hearing Araki think Killer Queen being too powerful and having too many abilities is something he would change, because that’s honestly one of my favorite aspects of him as a villain. Despite the fact that he’s got an unbelievable amount of power, fail safes, luck, etc, he’s still defeated in a satisfying and logical way, without the use of any “out-of-nowhere” power ups from the protagonist. If anything, I would think of this as one of the main cornerstones that makes Jojo’s so great in the first place; setting up a situation that seems impossible to overcome on the surface only for the characters to use their brain, despite whatever abilities they may or may not have, and overcome it anyway in a wholly satisfying method, just with a touch of that bizarre “Araki logic” in there.
@lpfan44915 ай бұрын
Honestly, a factor that is very satisfying about the end of the story is that it is entirely consistent about the details. The flow of luck never actually left Yoshikage, even getting run over can be seen as lucky because he was already beyond the point of his wincondition having expired and it at least allowed him to avoid facing responsibility by turning into a ghost. None of the steps towards his demise were chancebased, he just plain messed up.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Pt. 1 being black and white. Considering the evolution of morality of the Joestars in general and the ideas of the Victorian era of more black-and-white aspects of the era, I think it really worked well to show the evolution both with the story in this era and with where it went with the later generations.
@AYVYN5 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say any part is that elementary in terms of morality. Some evil characters are redeemable like Speedwagon, and other evil characters like Dio are mentally incapable of being good.

It's funny hearing those feelings he had on Phantom Blood, because while he might see the overly simple depiction of good and evil as a regret, I think it's also one of the aspects that makes Phantom Blood compelling to me. I think that especially for something as relatively short as Phantom Blood, simplicity can sometimes be the most elegant solution and I think it flourishes in that simplicity. I can see why he singled out Jonathan specifically as being "too nice", although even when he absolutely could've been a better character, he also has moments where that overly simple storytelling shines. The ending of Phantom Blood and what makes it so captivating for me lies entirely in Jonathan's pure depiction. Had he been more layered and complicated, we might not have had that final embrace he gives Dio and I'd argue part 1 would have been all the weaker for it. Ultimately though, we both got to have our cakes and eat it. I get to look back at Phantom Blood as better in some aspects than many give it credit for and Araki got to make a more complex and interesting version of Jonathan in Johnny, which I also get to relish in as the foundations for why Steel Ball is the best part of JoJo.

There is no question that Part 1’s story was simple but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. You can make a fantastic tasting soup but it is absolutely impossible to do it without the fundamental ingredient water.
@lpfan44915 ай бұрын
Honestly, sometimes author opinions on their own works can be refreshing because it shows that even the people who made the work can have very wild interpretations of it later on. Argubly, the things Araki finds issue with about Jonathan and Killer Queen can be considered part of the point of the story being told(And especially about Jonathan, it's even a bit ironic because Jonathan has a few slightly rough edges in the manga that were then adapted out by the DP anime. So in a way, the Part 1 story *did* have a slight do-over and actually made him even more of a clean boy).

Yeah but I think Araki plained in advance how the followings Antagonists would lose. As all following antagonists lost due to their adversary gaining a new power. In part 5, the climax was Bruno giving up on his life to give the arrow to Giorno so he could evolve his Stand and beat King Crimson. In part 6, Made in Heaven is ultimately the reason for Pucci’s downfall as Emporio used MIH’s ability to his advantage. In Part 7 and 8, Johnny and Gappy’s stand evolution representing their understanding of the spin (the result of all the experience they gained through their journey) was what help them beat the antagonist Stand

And besides the hero, the love interest/action girl of the issue, classic sexy femme fatale with very athletic build and uh...very impractical and huge chest area. He commented her look by saying "now as you can see, the woman on the right doesn't really strike someone as a warrior on a mission, but at the time we didn't care, we were all in our early 20s and incredibly horny all the time. Now that i have a wife and kids, i can't see myself drawing women like that anymore."

Not exactly a regret that he has done, but something he would have regretted if he had done this. It’s the plot of Fugo end being a spy and betraying the gang. It was likely at the time Araki was pressured and came up with the idea since he was dealing with strict deadlines with Shonen Jump while maintaining high quality work. I like Gorgeous Irene and ONLY because she's unrealistic. It feels like an idealized unrealiable narrator the likes of Great Gatsby, while "realism", like the story popping out of nowhere. Without witness bias, maybe without misremembered details about railroad tracks, it takes ME out of stories. Then Araki has abandoned MY audience. It makes it clear the cameraman is on the scene, to capture every little cinematic detail to gaze upon EXACTLY as best furthers the narrative. Nothing is realistic about returning to the scene and carefully hand-picking angles. Any reality if one must exist must always happen slighlty OFF the remorseless framing, you can't STARE like a dullard at "reality" and not understand you're being gaslit by an intelligent designer. It also enriches the ending of Stone Ocean, because Irene is also a phonetic homonym of Eileen, from the song Come On Eileen, that flaunts the short-lived and phony working class aesthetic trend of Northern Soul. That kind of thing is how REALLY human beings express their reality, EXACTLY by framing it. That's the only thing that makes there be any point in enjoying another person's fiction. If Araki has a message to offer other than interpretation, he's the phony by making it into fiction and not outright statements. Delusional people who think their current subculture is real and should be "accurately" represented, like China is denying Taiwan, takes me out of both fiction and the 'facts* that historians cook up about preferred regimes. Ink on paper about which government is "real". Soon enough another person will be taken out LITERALLY because they live somewhere like Gaza, where your hobbyist tools for the 2nd Amendment are subsidized in, to make production cheap and accessible.

It made it so much more satisfying when Josuke and the crew were able to stop him, especially because he was only a moment away from managing to get away. If any JoJo villain suffered from being "too overpowered", it was Kars. I wonder if Araki regrets having the only female JoJo mc be the one who's basically only there to clean up the mess of this bloodline and the DIO feud and is then replaced with an AU version of herself. Rather than creating a female JoJo mc who has her own unique motivations like Giorno, Johnny or Josuke8

Hey xforts I hope you can correct me but I think he kinda regret making part 3 stands so simple and elemental, I read somewhere araki sayin of how you can't make to much of exciting fight when you have "fire" and "swordman" stands Is this true or I just read misinformation 😅?

I actually disagree with Kira, because it fit so well on the overall feel and progression of the story. Part 4 is slice of life with stands. It was slow and patient. Kira as a villian was much more present in contrast to the other villians, because his "slice of life" was shown as well and his "growth" made it more interesting. The other villians where just sitting it out until they got a fight that showed them with their highest potentional, making the impact stronger - you wouldnt want to show these guys weak at the start. Kira wasnt weak by any means at the start, but in terms of stand combat he was really inexperienced. I think Araki can brush that off, Part 4 wouldnt need any change in my opinion. But its still his work and i would be excited to see an alternative, because it would mean more jojo!
