@@HobbyBloxs Many years ago I looked at Hydraulic press metal forming, they used Polyurethane rubber and only a male die. The Polyurethane bounces back and lasts much longer. Just never thought of using this type of press for small stuff or leather. After seeing this video I wondered if 3018 CNC cut plastic dies would work. There is a yt ch that used 3D printed dies for steel forming to 18gauge. UV printed for fine detail? Only has to last one press for one off jobs, book titles for gilding etc

Geordie Leather Quick question, did you actually use an N52 neodymium rare earth magnet in your video which is what you’re linking to? I ask because the one you linked to is meant to lift 200-250 pounds and would absolutely crush your finger flat if it got between the magnets and the press, it may also magnetize the press over time.
@HobbyBloxs
@HobbyBloxs 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. This video was made a long time ago. If the original magnet linked to is no longer available, Amazon will normally show you something it thinks is similar. I have no control over what Amazon shows you. All I can say is that lots of people have bought the magnet linked to in their country and nobody has mentioned any problems. Sorry I can't be of more help.

this was so helpful!! I have an arbor press that I never even considered using for leatherwork, and a bunch of shape dies that I've unsuccessfully tried to us with a hammer.... just combined the two using your magnet idea and it works brilliantly!

Thank you so so much! I’ve been wanting to do leather and biothane (vegan leather, pvc coated nylon) dog and horse collars and leads and not wanting to make a major investment on a rivet setter. This is brilliant.

Thank you SO MUCH for this video!!!! I have been having a horrible time setting snaps with a hammer and was looking at hand presses, but they aren't cheap, all take specific dies, which all cost even more money. I LOVE that you solved this and shared your brilliant solution using the magnet to set snaps and rivets using tools we already have!! So wonderful!!! I just discovered you because of this video, subscribed, and I'll definitely be back for more!!! Thanks again. :-)

Arbor presses are wonderfully useful in ways slow hydraulic presses cannot match. i buy mine used for much less than new and the big heavy ones often go cheap. A visit to your local steel supplier may yield cheap leftovers from cutting for previous customers and should you choose to fab more shop equipment like an arbor press stand (for which you can cut the pieces than have a welder finish weld if you do not weld) it's worth learning your local metal supply options.
