Very timely Geordie! I bought a press like this last week, but primarily for debossing stamps. I assumed the whole plate area would have even pressure and wondered why it wasn't working properly. But you have shown that that multiple presses with this type is necessary, so I know mine is not dodgy now, thank you. Havre you tried to use yours for debossing? I'll check out your dies too.

Yes. It does a good job at debossing too.

It's amazing how many tools for this and that in our craft we buy over the year's. If I had known 10 years ago all the tools I would buy, I probably never became a cobbler. 😆 I developed arthritis in my hands and wrists a few years ago and I had to find other methods where I could save myself a lot more pain. I started using a press to cut out much of my work. I hope now I can continue work for many more years to come.

May I suggest a video? In the background of all your videos I see lots of plastic storage cases. I would love to see a video on how your organize your hardware. Snaps and rivets to start with. I would love to see if you mix the posts and caps of the rivets or keep them separate. It takes too much time for me to find my hardware. Your years of experience would be appreciated.

Hi there Geordie. Just discovered your channel. Great quality content you've got here. Would love to see the channel grow. So I'm mad about leather and been at it for about a year. Quick question on the topic of dies...is there any milage in trying to use them with a mallet? I think I know the answer but I'd love to hear from someone who knows their stuff. Do you necessarily have to bite the bullet and go for a press? Cheers in advance!
@HobbyBloxs2 жыл бұрын
Hello JM. Thanks for your question. You don't need a press but they make the job ten times easier. I wouldn't recommend using a mallet but you can use what's called a 'Rammer', which is a cylindrical block of nylon. You use this to press (or tap) the back of the dies into the leather. Here is a link to one: ali.ski/KFyZNK

Thanks for your video. I have recently purchased a very similar press to the one you have demonstrated. I purchased this because I am wanting to use a smaller desktop press to replace my 30tonne hydraulic clicking press. I was wondering if you have seen the electric powered mini hydraulic assist presses that are almost identical in size and design to the manual one you demonstrated, but have this added feature/benefit for repetative, high volume cuts. In the near future, i think i am going to need the mini hydraulic assist benchtop press & was wondering if you could do a demonstration video on one to see how it compares to the manual model.

Hello. Yes, I have seen these. If a supplier wants to send me one, I'll be happy to do a review of it. We may sell this machine in our shop in the future, if there is enough interest.
@iwonder74803 жыл бұрын
@@HobbyBloxs Well that would be fabulous - hopefully your video will give the suppliers an idea. BTW - I realised I made a mistake on the desktop cutter thrust mechanism - I believe it is 'pneumatic' assist & definitely NOT hydraulic assist as i indicated by mistake.

Hi, I stumbled over your videos when I was looking for ideas on what to use mye leather scraps on (I sew purses etc) I am thinking about buying a few dies so I can use my scraps, but I do not have the press that you have. I do however have a heating press, so I'm thinking i might be able to use that to cut out the dies (without heat of course) Is there anything special about the press except for even pressure without using as much force?

Normally you can buy dies from us in the UK at shop.geordieleather.com but we are receiving more orders than we can cope with at the moment and have a big backlog of orders waiting to be made.
