Good vid, very informative! Im in view of the beta lightweight for mainly skiing 0-30f, and some casual wear. 175 slim build so was thinking size S. However since I would have to fit layers in winter I'm now also considering the beta ar stormhood for more room, where the cons would be less casual wear and probably a worse fit for thinn layerd spring skiing. What would be your opinion? many thanks.

@rodrev_hiking67577 ай бұрын
I disagree to go with beta AR . Its way heavier , less packable and a 100usd pricier. Extremly satisfied with the Beta Lightweight so far used in Norway and Iceland this Spring . My Beta AR feels not so breathable therefore fast clammy , and i cant pack it so well . Beta Lightweight is superb

The beta lt is heavier, more durable Goretex, and still uses the old version of dwr

@@WillFaulkner is there a difference in functionality and fitting between the beta lightweight and beta LT? Or is the only difference the weight, goretex and zipper? If so which one would u recommend for someone who want to use it for hiking and skiing (off piste)?

@@AnonymousV4 LT for sure. However if it’s just for travel, I’d just get a cheaper rain shell from marmot or outdoor research

@@WillFaulkner Thanks for the reply. I use a RAB Phantom rain jacket now which keeps me surprisingly dry but I don't like that the outer shell gets drenched. Might have to live with it for portability though.

@@AnonymousV4 You can try re-applying DWR. The jacket might just be absorbing the rain now instead of repelling it.

Hello, I want to buy the Beta LT for Christmas because I love the design, and I'm looking for a jacket that I can still wear in 10 years. The only issue is that on the website, there doesn't seem to be a lightweight version. I only see the Beta LT, which I want because it also has the Arc'teryx embroidery, not just the logo. Do you know if they plan to replace it?

@chatdeau_ The Beta SL is the 2024 fall replacement for the 2024 Beta Lightweight Not sure why they went back to the "SL" suffix after switching to "Lightweight" a few years back

So just to be sure: the one he’s reviewing here is the 2024 spring lightweight, the “equivalent” of which would currently (Oct 2024) be the SL model for fall 2024? Did they change anything for those models? I’ve been reading some comments around the internet from people that are not impressed by the GoreTex Paclite’s durability. Any thoughts on that?
@darkurio2 ай бұрын
@@albertharkema6072 yes this Spring 2024 Lightweight is the same as the Fall 2024 SL in all aspects including sizing I'd be less concerned with the durability of this and more concerned with all the reports of the new ePE fabric wetting out quickly and being almost 50% less breathable than the pre-2024 versions essentially defeating the purpose of spending this much $$$ on these hard-shells

I just tried this jacket on in the store and quite liked it for the features. I didn't love the fit of my body (tall, slender but curvy female medium build), and tend to wear really oversized garments, of what would be considered the "correct" size for me and actually found the best size was the men's XL. At this size, it looked very fashionable. The sleeves however were VERY long, as you mention, but you can use the velcro at the wrists and have a sort of ruched effect where the fabric gathers. It's not the look for everyone, but it worked for me. However, I have two questions: is there a comparable lightweight jacket with similar features at a lower pricepoint that you would recommend? AND: can you recommend a good resource for learning about how and when to re-proof a water resistant jacket after wear? Thanks so much!
@leeraewi6 ай бұрын
Also, my main use of the jacket would be for dog walking, walking around the city (thus the lightweight and armpit zips are great for dealing with transitions from outdoors to indoors) and hiking.
@WillFaulkner6 ай бұрын
In terms of a cheaper jacket, one from Outdoor research or Marmot would be less expense but have similar features
@WillFaulkner6 ай бұрын
In terms reapplying dwr, it’s really baes on when you notice the jacket isn’t beading water. I’ll usually notice it on the shoulders or arms and just spot treat if they aren’t beading in this areas

Caveat emptor!!!! I purchased 6 Arcteryx shells. All of them fell apart. All of them. I gave one as a present, it fell apart. All fell apart at the seams. They supposedly were using incorrect glues. The company does help with repairs , or money back. The price of these coats has gone through the roof. the company only reimburses for their failures at about one half the current price. I could argue their strategy either way, but i am not sure over all that it is a fair policy!!! I would buy a differnet brand if I were you.
