Fun fact: I'm sure it's been mentioned, but Nazca - the Metal Slug devteam - were a bunch of Irem alumni who left and partnered up with SNK. The similar visuals and music aren't a coincidence! Be sure to check out In The Hunt, Undercover Cops and GunForce 2, though their signature style can be felt in Irem titles as early as R-Type II.

Who knew that this game is set in the same universe as R-Type, specifically in the events of R-Type Delta. Well, knowing that this game was made by the same company that created R-Type, it doesn't surprise me much anymore.

Really, back in the day Irem was one of the best Arcade Game Producer. R-Type, Mr Heli, Armed Police Unit Gallop and In the Hunt prove just that. For some reason Irem always liked Big Sprites, as only R-Type didn't have them. I know, Konami was big back then too ... with Gradius, Salamander, Xexex, Contra and allot others. But Idea Wise ... Irem did Trump them all.

@@paxhumana2015 Nowadays that is so very true. But even back then Konami already did make "more of that" without allot big changes. Irem ... had allot more unique games, that didn't turn into a big huge series of games ... apart from R-Type. But yeah, your statement could fit more then just Irem and Konami in the game industry.

Yeah, I think many Irem devs worked on Last Resort and Metal Slug series. There's a very distinct look to Irem games.

If you dig deeper, it appeared in R-Type Final for PS2, but it was named as R-11 Peacemaker, uses a different weapon set, but it kept the LASER weapon, named as LOCK-ON LASER

ININ Games announced Gunforce 1 and 2 on their upcoming Irem Collection Volume 2 release (along with Air Duel) for PS4/PS5/Switch. Volume 1 will have Image Fight 1 and 2, and X-Multiply.
