I remember my younger brother thinking he could survive something like this in real life. My response to that is this: if you can play this game blind (never played it before and haven't even watched it before), without having any healing items, without getting hit by a devastating attack such as an axe or hatchet slash, AND not get killed even once, you might stand HALF a chance of surviving this in real life. Actually, I found an arcade that still has the cabinet. The screen looks all weird now but last time I was there, it was still up and running.

I can tell there are some major differences between this version and the one on the Saturn and the PC (Facial animations, changed scenery *referring to when Rogan says "I'll get you, Curien", along with some animations just not being there at all), but the best part about the PC version is its auto reload option.

This game is a true masterpiece and those graphic and ambiance details are beautiful it's crazy how detailed this game is and aged well to watch today tons and tons of details , the last boss looks better than lot of video games character even today very cool .

True. The way I play HotD on Model 2 emulator is using my left finger with the fire trigger as one of the desktop keys, but I right-click to reload. Pretty convenient for me as I'm a lefty.

@@summerlaverdure Well, the saturn was released 1 year later, and back then that meant a lot, not like now. What I suggest would likely push back the release another 6 months, missing the holiday season, but also giving some "air" between the release of the 32X and the next gen console. Also, it would have left the Saturn with a price of 450 dollars against the introductory price of 700 for the 3DO. Plus, Sega was an established business, not a startup like the 3do company.

When I was a kid I always played it on my uncle's computer besides painting (:P). I finished the game like 30-40 times (that time there wasn't many games that we could play actually and I enjoyed it a lot). Whenever I heard the line "Farewell Sophie" I felt pretty sad cuz even though I was very young I understood that she was dead and the guy was saying some kinda goodbye. :'( Good ol' memories.

That "Die!" voice is hilarious IMO. It's funny how they used it for the Hangedman boss as the rest of his voices are high-pitched octaves. "This is as far as you go. I'll finish you here!"

If you're expecting a legal re-release of this game any time soon then prepare for disappointment. SEGA's tragically lost the source code for this. That's why this game has not been included on House of the Dead game compilations. If you're adamant to still not play the ROM version, then you're going to have to either buy one of the surviving cabinets for this game or settle for the watered down ports of this on the PC and Sega Saturn. Both those versions, I should mention, besides now being out of print and quite expensive, actually removed and stripped out a lot of features from the arcade version.

Dark Wolf I fortunately own the PC version :) Unfortunately I can't play it because its so old it doesn't play nice with modern OSs. Anyway, besides the point. Why can't SEGA just use the PC port and include that for compilations? I understand it's watered down, but it's better than nothing right?

the final revision of the Sega Model 2 the 2C CRX, they teamed up with GE Aerospace and Lockheed Martin to get then current flight simulator spec 3D into the arcade, was the first to use texture filtering. It was a weird setup tho, it was a CPU with 6 DSPs to do the 3D math, then a whole bunch of custom Sega chips to actually do the texturing. It also had the Sega Saturn sound chip (for the HOTD board revision, the first games had a less advanced sound chip).

The Magician is the hardest boss in all HOD bosses I think My first time in HOD1 I lose many credits because of this boss mostly lose lives from his "Infamous dash attack" , need a good aim and rapid firing try to hit at unarmored parts (His left leg is the easiest to aim.) in HOD4 Special still damn hard because you need to hit about half mag of SMG to cancel is dash attack and he move faster than previous HOD TwT

Every time a player shoots in this version... It flashes... Making it a way to have a seizure... And can also have Phototosensitive epilepsy.... This game has so much flashes when shooting can make you have Photosensitive Epilepsy... This is not safe for children....

That's odd. I'm running Windows 8 and I can run 2 just fine. Any gfx issues are minor and noticeable only if you're looking for them. Heck, it works really well with d3dwindower if you don't like fullscreen.

No, you got the bad ending. There are three endings in the game based on how long you take to finish the game. There's one where Sophie becomes a zombie, one where she doesn't show up at all, and one where she survives.
