Aside from the sound and slightly muted color pallette, it's a pretty close arcade port for the NES. 😊

This is about as close as it gets from a visual perspective.

This was such a hard game. On the arcade port, I made it through four cutscenes, but only through excessive savescumming. It would be more enjoyable if it wasn't so difficult!

I couldn't agree more. I was getting pretty frustrated trying to get footage for this because I kept dying over and over again. It's still pretty fun but a slightly less difficult game would have been preferable.

Excessive savescumming, that phrase makes it sound like a gooner with a saves fetish ;)

I never even heard of this game 😮

I didn't hear of it either until recording it for a previous video from like a year ago. It's like Bubble Bobble's lesser known sibling.

I've only played this on Taito Legends (1 or 2? can't remember, but I know this game was on the PSP Powered Up release as well). It was not a game I spent much time on, and I didn't know there was an NES version. It's an okayish game and the idea was interesting, but I am so, so terrible at this that I just didn't have much fun. On those releases, I spent way more time playing Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, Space Invaders, and especially Phoenix etc. Chack'n Pop was definitely not *my* game (and my friend Matt gave it an alternate title by swapping the 'Ch' with a 'J'). The NES port looks quite close to the arcade minus a few sprite and color changes. It sounds different but not worse than the arcade. I'd probably say the arcade wins because I do like the colors more, but it's close.

Lol now that's a good name for a game! I played this one like a year or two ago for a different video and didn't like it. However, I played it again for this video to get some better footage and it really grew on me. Now I wouldn't put this up there as a hidden gem or anything but it may go more in the category of a fun 2600 game where you play it for 15 minutes tops and then move on to something else. Actually that may be perfect for being on those compilation games come to think of it. Yeah this one is pretty much a wash and I don't know if I'd say one is better than the other.

The arcade version looks more like the NES than the NES version does lol

Lol! You've got a good point there.

An interesting game no doubt. A very close comparison! Winner: Arcade just by bit. NES hung in there and not a bad port at all, minor differences makes it a contender. You did good man, I am guessing the arcade version had a handful of rerecordings, it looks tough!

These older arcade games are so deceiving. The first level is cake and then all of a sudden it kicks your ass. I think I spent about 45 minutes on each version just to get decent footage. As far as the ports go these are about as close as it gets. I find these older NES/Famicom games to be fascinating like this, Mario Bros (arcade), Donkey Kong, etc. It's like it's a completely different generation of gaming than what the NES is known for.

Is this a Bubble Bobble clone? Legit, tho.😊

This actually predates Bubble Bobble and is also a Taito game, so in a way it's like the foundation for Bubble Bobble.
