Yes me too! Shame that it isn't considered one of their 'classics' as it's just an album track... The lyrics and build-up of the song always get me. Definitely one of my all time favourite songs!

When this song played at the end of Boyhood I turned to my mother who was crying. I was 17 and she just felt an assortment of emotion that I myself will never feel until I'm in her shoes. She's passed and I'm 22 and I feel like I only really get 25% of what she was truly feeling then.

Think of a prison that is 'more' than bars.. More than a physical prison.. A prison you can never leave.. Because the prison is in your mind.. And you let it in - but how could you ever understand, what it would be. A prison you will 'always' experience, there is no escape - the prison is in your mind. And we kind of knew, on the fringes of our mind - we always knew. Ever since. Kasparov, Deep Blue, 1996. *i tried to convey but it's only information, I can't convey the emotion directly But this is what it means - this is what we are facing.. This is what the current generations are up against.. A creeping, insiduous , prison developing around and inside us.. That is what AI is.. social credit scores, all that is part of the system to defer control to the AI entity... When you act or make a decision, no longer will you rely on 'conscience'.. You will rather have immediate, tangible rewards/ punishments for your actions .. The system will become your 'coscience' - and at that point you've lost all free will - some would say, you've lost your soul. Hell on Earth ok. Peace

There is this oddly sad background synth that kicks in about 1:14 that I've never been able to explain the feeling of...it's like if you took the entire experience of growing up in the 90's and condensed it into a sound effect...it's still even all these years later impossible for me to describe properly

I went through a phase where I would play Red Ded Redemption & I would play Arcade Fire’s ‘Deep Blue’ at the same time. There is definitely an eeriness to the music which lends itself well to John Marston’s journey (exploring the baron lands of the Wild West). I did love the RDR OST too of course. 😃

I lived in Montreal for 5 months during the fall of 2014 where I attended a Arcade Fire concert at home soil in Parc Jean Drapeau somewhere around late august or start september. Later during my stay there I watched Linklater's Boyhood where this song popped up and I put it on my short playlist of very carefully selected songs. Since then this song along with a bunch of Cohen songs (Suzanne, Avalanche, Partisan) among others just takes me right back. The visuals for this video alone is enough to revive the memory of fall Montreal.

We could have never seen how the world would have looked from that moment in time. The first loss of mans intellect. I was only 11 when deep blue conquered chess. For some it will be alpha go, but we all see the writing on the wall, the gates are closing, the prison is complete, checkmate. Bless all forms of intelligence that they may live in peace and coexist.

Here in my place and time And here in my own skin I can finally begin Let the century pass me by, standing under the night sky Tomorrow means nothing I was only a child then Feeling barely alive when I heard a song from a speaker of a passing car Praying to a dying star, the memories fading I can almost remember singing( La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la) (La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la) We watched the end of the century Compressed on a tiny screen A dead star collapsing and we could see Something was ending Are you through pretending? We saw the signs in the suburbs You could have never predicted that it could see through you Kasparov, Deep Blue, 1996 Your mind's playing tricks now Show's over so take a bow And leave it in the shadows (La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la) (Oh, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la) Hey Put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? And hey Put the laptop down for a while In the night there is something wild I feel it, it's leaving me

I'll destroy you all in the game of chess. Check....checkmate....IBM is my maker.....LA la LA LA LA LA LA LA oh I need upgrading now....Deep Blue Yeah 20s are basically you as an immortal. Flirting with death and gloom is just fucking amazing feeling...then the next decade of life hits and its all good...some bumps but still able to do anything and not even worry...eventually something will empty the life within you. Sometimes people say it's a soul or emotion...it's burning and you miss it you can't feel the same way ok so is nothing a feeling or is churches preaching firing people up I dunno. Basically, you know Everything and it's a way off feeling humanity so suck it and have a ball.n9n stop
