@FlamingZelda3 Жыл бұрын
@@EffortlessQigong definitely not a call to action. It's the anger and desperation at the pointlessness of it all even after having made the call to action. It doesn't matter that he gave up everything, that he sacrificed himself like a soldier or a monk, it all ends in death and destruction because the powers that be are reckless, incompetent, or just plain wicked.

Hmm. I'm curious. I can see why you like it, but I do have to ask, as a man of faith how do you feel about the lyrics? You know, people singing Hallelujah in fear, working for the church while your family dies, who's going to throw the first stone, all that. I'm not baiting you, I'm not trolling or trying to start a fight. I'm agnostic and I'm only asking out of curiosity.

Lyrics: The king's taken back the throne The useless seed was sown When they say they're cutting off the phone Then tell 'em you're not home No place to hide You'll find there's a soldier on their side You're still a soldier in your mind But nothing's on the line You say it's money that we need As if we're the only mouths to feed I know that no matter what you say There are some debts we never pay Working for the church while your family dies You take what they give you And you keep it inside Every spark of friendship and love will die without a home Hear the soldier groan we'll got it at alone I can taste the fear Lift me up and take me out of here Don't want to fight, don't want to die Just want to hear you cry Who's gonna throw the very first stone Oh, who's gonna re set the bone Walking with your hand in a sling Wanna hear the soldier sing Working for the church while my family dies You're little baby sister's gonna lose her mind Every spark of friendship and love will die without a home Hear the soldier groan we'll got it at alone I can taste your fear It's gonna lift you up and take you out of here If the bone shot never heals I cannot make him yield You can't find me now But they're gonna get their money back somehow And when you finally disappear We'll just say you were never here Been working for the church while your life falls apart They're singing hallelujah when defeating your heart Every spark of friendship and love will die without a home Hear the soldier groan we'll got it at alone Hear the soldier groan we'll got it at alone

this song hurts a lot in a way only masterpieces can. as a kid i constantly wanted to be lifted up and taken away from my family. who's gonna reset the bone ? nobody did that. this album sure is something to listen to when your family spent your whole childhood hurting you. it's a beautiful album but it brings back all the bad memories. still, sometimes you have to let them be felt.

I’m glad I now have a second band to completely obsess over. I’m a Depeche Mode devotee and stumbled across this band analysing their Reflektor music video in my creative media course (Fun fact, The director of that video is Anton Corbjin who is the man behind the look and videos of Depeche Mode) Never looked back since then. Finally another band with music that is so big, atmospheric and utterly stonking. Waiting for the day to finally see them live :D
