I love Pro Wrestling, but hate the term "Sports Entertainment" The stuff that Joey Ryan does isn't Pro Wrestling or Sports Entertainment, it's a complete insult to the industry. Wrestling fans don't want this or people dancing and all that shit. We want believeable story lines, believable rivalries and great matches. What we don't want is our intelligence insulted with trash we can spot a mile away.

Joey Ryan and others are working in a post kayfabe industry trying to get some attention. They weren't the ones who killed its credibility. I think the lack of direction and guidance over all the indies is what's killing the business outside of wwe. It's like all of pro-wrestling needs a big fat reboot. A re-establishment of the guard, to define what is and isn't. Not necessarily putting tooth paste back, but presenting something as "the real shit" and using the indies as the different flavors.

I was at the show. OTT is pretty much the only indie company Ireland has so I let them away with a lot so I can still go to watch wrestling. And I have never been so disappointed that I was at a show in my life. I left the arena to stand in the smoking area outside until the match and unfortunately came back when the match was over only for 10 more minutes of dumb shit to happen. It's just horrible and it's worse to see people enjoying it.

Damn, feels good to know I'm by far not the only one that sides with Cornette on this kind of thing. I try to love the Indies however I wish they wouldn't mix this haha bullshit in with the good matches. I'm a huge fan of the increased work rate in a lot of these matches but they usually run the risk of taking it too far, no selling and having the third finisher be the finish when the spinning tombstone from the top rope didn't do it. It feels an odd company to hang my hat on but more and more and have to say that NXT is where it's at these days. I've not seen a bad TakeOver.

We live in an era, where ring psychology means being goofy. I'm all for comedy in wrestling, but comedy is like Hardcore- use it sparingly, and it can really add to a match. When you use ridiculous spots in every match, it ruins everything (comedic, or otherwise).

The thing is - Ryan's about as over as he's ever going to get - I don't think RoH or Lucha are interested in a second go, he'll never work NXT, and pretty much every other indie books him regularly. There were plenty of dudes on that card who could get pushed - Ricochet, Sydal, Dunne, Seven, Bate, Jeff Cobb (why isn't he in WWE), War Machine (why aren't they in WWE), Jimmy Havoc, Charlie Sterling....all of these guys are legit and deserve more opportunities in context than Ryan.

Here's my opinion on the justification of "a smile on every face." All those faces look alike. Nearly all male, all around the same age. And it looks just like the crowd at my local indie that does dumb stuff like fat guys dressed as babies. Women, older fans, families... all have been pretty much driven off. So yeah the fans were smiling because all that's left are fans that would smile over dumb stuff. Those of us who don't stay at home.

This isn’t even gimmick wrestling, this is legitimately making the business a complete joke. Joey Ryan couldn’t make it in TNA or anywhere else if the companies actually want to be taken seriously. I’ve been a wrestling fan since my grandma and dad took me to SECW growing up. We had the Rip Rogers and Exotic Adrian Street but I seriously doubt they would allow this garbage in the ring with them. They would have beat Joey Ryan down. I refuse to watch this junk. He absolutely would have. One has to remember he didn’t start with that move or character. The first time he did it was in 2015. He started training in like 2000 and had wrestled for years before the dixk spot. He’d been in TNA and ROH already. He’d had dark matches multiple times in WWE. Then he did this stupid thing and suddenly he was in news media and got sponsorships. If he ever thought he has a chance in the mainstream wrestling companies it never would’ve happened.

Me, I resent him since I heard of this horse shit, and the only reason a self respecting person would go along with it is either they think its funny, are attracted to him, or he is intimidating them somehow to go along with it. To put into perspective the rise other sports have had over the years in comparison to pro wrestling going right down. In 1979 an English football (soccer) player called Trevor Brooking signed a record £1 million move to Nottingham Forest fast forward to the 2016-2017 season Neymar Jr completes a record setting move to PSG for £200 million and earns £537000 a week for the next 5 years. I put that into dollars that’s a $270 million move to PSG and over $726 thousand a week. It shows how far behind pro wrestling has fallen in comparison to other sports across the world.

Jim I was one of the guys you talked about when mentioning Kenny Omega I'm from Arkansas been watching wrestling since I was 5 I'm forty something now Vince killed the territories and told everyone that would listen wrestling was fake and start calling it sports entertainment Vince did that wrestling will never be the same for those reasons I joined the military I didn't watch it for years. The NWO and the Monday night wars brought me back but I still like WCW better until they just got shitty. Me as a fan don't have the option like in the 80's to watch at least 5 different companies on TV I hate the dumb shit to and so do alot of people but what do we have has fans to watch it's that or nothing I feel sorry because I don't think wrestling will be around much longer it's sometimes is a joke I don't want to lose it. It brought me so much joy in my childhood now it's a few wrestlers world wide I enjoy instead of in each territory.

@Matt-cr4vv Жыл бұрын
No he wasn’t trained by Al Snow. But he had a feud and interaction with Al on the TNA Gut Check segment years back. He has said the bulk of his training was with Tom Howard and Brian Kendrick but ironically he also spent time being trained by Bryan Danielson. He became what he became in all likelihood because what he’d been doing wasn’t getting him to any major level in the industry and doing the dick spot resulted in a lot of exposure and a sponsorship from some porn company. I guess I can kinda get why you’d do it because even if it isn’t what you imagined it’s still probably well above anything you’d been making or exposure you’d had before. And he’d spent time in two other main promotions and had dark matches in the WWE without any major success so I imagine being taken serious was probably little importance to him by the time he started doing the spot. I always thought it was the dumbest shit but I guess if my choice was to be unknown and make peanuts or be infamous and make a decent living I can’t say for sure I’d be adamant to not do it. Hard to truly say without the numbers in front of me to fully gauge the choice he made. But in the end it is clear he’s a shitty dude and it came full circle in the end for him.

Let's face it..Mick loves having fun,and if he thinks he's having fun and doing something he thinks is funny then he's going to do it. The fact that it was the "hardcore" legend may be too hard for you folks to stomach,but who gives a damn. Kayfabe is dead,wrestling the way we all knew it once upon a time is dead. Either accept that you are going to occasionally see something you don't like,or move to Japan. That's really the only choice you have if you don't want to see a comedy act. It's become nothing more than slapstick comedy largely in part to WWE.

@Airdathegamer
@Airdathegamer 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, remember when wrestling was huge? It was all a sideshow in a circus back then, right? Hogan handed out cotton candy to passers by, Flair juggled balls, Austin rode an elephant... It’s all circus bullshit and wrestling never took off and became incredibly huge outside of circuses. That’s where Wrestlemania’s are preformed, right? Wrestlemania is just one of the many attractions in a circus. It’s not like the fucking NFL was worried about the ratings of TWO wrestling shows running at the same time slot, or it’s not like the most successful actor in Hollywood owes his career to pro-wrestling. It’s all just an outdated circus performance. Because let me tell you, circuses were huge in 80s and late 90s, which explains why pro-wrestling was so huge as well.

Pro Wrestling is a form of entertainment and people were entertained by this. Not everyone likes the same style of wrestling and just because you don't like a particular style doesn't mean it's bad, or that it's destroying the buisness, or that the people involved are now a joke and should be ashamed of themselves. At least that's my opinion on the matter

Jim I love you brother, but you are living in the past. You need to understand that wrestling isn't how it used to be. Mick Foley did it because he likes having fun and thought it would make the audience happy. And that's exactly what happened, but I get it jim you think everyone should do the same worn out cactus jack thumbtacks and barbed wire routine. But facts are Mick can't do that anymore without risking his health. But I do agree with you that Joey Ryan probably was the wrong person to try to elevate by doing a spot,but Mick doesn't look at it that way.

Fucking guy made himself obsolete in the business and then uses his newly-found legitimacy as a living-meme to endear his has-been bullshit to a new generation of internet smart-marks. That still doesn't mean it's going to change. As Cornette himself said, their fanbase is "small but fervent" and they're not going to stop doing what they're doing just because people outside of that fanbase don't like them. There's literally no way to stop this kind of comedy wrestling from occurring (as long as it still has it's own niche audience), so it's pointless to complain about it constantly. Cornette's fighting a war that's already long over. PWG will always be able to fill up the bingo hall in Reseda, and for them that's all that matters. They'll be doing just fine even if the mainstream wrestling industry tanks.
