The stupidity of the spot is that when a wrestler is lying down on the canvas and another wrestler has a bat...the wrestler with the bat would not put a chair on top of the wrestler on the canvas and hit the chair. Instead, they would hit the wrestler in the face (or body) with the bat. So even if he had hit the chair safely, the spot isn't believable. Either way it looks like shit.

I can understand the "accidents happen" mentality if it was an agreed upon spot on the part of the talent involved, but this would have looked incredibly stupid (even more so than it did) if it had come off the way they wanted it. The way that chair was set up was as silly (if not more so) than any Chikara spot.

@je70555 жыл бұрын
@@lutheranmartintheking4297 I believe Calihan was very briefly on NXT, wrestling under a different name a few years back. I've only seen the Takeovers and they did a Y2J-esque computer bug angle in one of the early Takeovers, and he debuted with some hacker gimmick on the next taping. The next Takeover after that started with Callihan squashing CJ Parker, so it looked like they were trying to push him pretty hard as a face because Parker was heel, but that was the last I saw of him in the Takeovers.
sometime I don't think you can "work it" I remember hollering at dad to check this out damnedest thing I seen in a long time. and I showed him Shelton Benjamin flying through the air and taking sweet chin music in the air. dad almost fell down ((hbk mark at the end) he managed to spit out "how? didn't know then don't know now. Judging from this , it appears Eddie has seemingly said he knows this was an accident. On TMZ , Eddie detailed that the chair started to slide and it screwed up the ball bat spot. It seems Eddie and Anthem are using this to sell the program more as Sami stayed in heel mode and cut his TMZ promo.
@UNCAUfan876 жыл бұрын
I just saw the video of this incident. I will say this: after Sami Callahan delivered that shoulder breaker, you can CLEARLY hear him ask "are you OK?". So while I think this was a HORRIBLE incident that SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.....I don't think he deliberately, intentionally tried to seriously injure him. I'm not trying to say it was acceptable. But I don't think he MEANT to hurt him.

The expression on Callihan’s face is easy to see right after the hit, as they clearly can’t be showing what happened, and he’s clearly shocked. So I wouldn’t say it was on purpose either. But it IS still Callihan’s fault for doing an extremely risky move with no regard to the outcome. Just off the top of my head, slowly lower the bat down onto the chair and hold it there so the chair stabilizes, and as Cornette mentioned, the audience would be able to see the next (telegraphed) hit. Even allowing the announcers to play up the impending hit, “Oh my god, he can’t be serious!” Affording Edwards time to grip the chair tightly and maneuver it so it can’t break his face. I.e. build anticipation. At the speed it was done, if it had been successful it still would’ve seemed like a mistake.

Could of permanently injured Eddie Edwards. This was an accident you could see a mile away. Actually I don't actually call it an accident. I remember Stone Cold vs Undertaker in a buried alive match and Stone Cold was to drive a backhoe to bury Undertaker all by himself. Stone Cold refused to do it by himself because he knew too little about backhoes and one wrong move could of crushed Undertaker. That was smart. He knew he had no business doing something he knew nothing about. If only others would learn. By the way the match was a buried alive match at Rock Bottom December 13, 1998.

He can WORK really well actually. And if you watch the footage closely, you can tell this was a total accident and the bat slipped off the chair and into Eddie's face. Also, it's not like Sami booked this segment. I'm pretty sure both guys were working what they were TOLD to do. Cornette is way too critical of certain guys and makes me think he shouldn't even be watching anymore if he hates today's scene as much as he says he does.

Pro wrestlers are ‘stuntmen’. They perform stunts. Bret Hart’s career was ended by an ‘accidental’ badly placed head kick from Goldberg. Droz’s career was ended from a botched move performed by D’Lo Brown. Joey Mercury’s nose was shattered by a ladder that Jeff Hardy landed on. Perro Aguayo and Owen Hart “died” in the ring. Accidents happen in pro wrestling precisely because of the ‘stunt’ nature of the business. Going forward, I think that ‘soft bats’ should be used, but pro wrestling is dangerous regardless of the stunts performed.
@ahmeddemha61126 жыл бұрын

Ahmed Demha My point is that wrestlers take risks with their bodies in every match. Whether it’s descending from the rafters, taking a particular bump, or doing a stunt involving a baseball bat. Everything they do in the ring is a stunt.

Scorch1028 True but in this particular instance the risk taken was *completely* unnecessary and just plain stupid.
