Hood on I thought Silko was pointing the gun at Vi to get her to stop torturing his daughter and killing Jynx. Did I misunderstand the sequence? If so then I’ve been entirely wrong about Silko’s character and quality as a father figure. Is so my bad
@DLxxx17 күн бұрын
@@kevinmccalister4602 The simplest way to put it is: Silco didn't want Vi to get between him and Jinx. Silco was urging Jinx to finish off Caitlyn because it would forever cause a rift between her and Vi, and assure that Jinx stays with Silco (convincing her to believe that "everyone betrays us, we can only count on eachother"). In order to stop this, Vi tells her to remember who she is. Remember that she's not a Jinx. That she's not a monster like Silco, and she doesn't have to do this. Silco tried to shoot Vi in order to shut her up. Because if Vi successfully got through to Powder, then she would be on the path to healing and would no longer need to Silco's love. She would no longer cling to Silco as a father because she would have Vi back, which means Silco would no longer have her as his daughter. You can also argue that he didn't want Jinx to have a mental breakdown, but it’s more that he didn't want his relationship with her to be irreparably damaged. He loves her too much to have her taken out of his life.

25:45 You might want to rewatch that scene. Silco doesn't shoot at Jinx. He shoots at Vi. There's a bullet hole right next to her head. Jinx instinctively shoots at Silco to protect her sister

Also if you rewatch the scene, Jinx isn’t instinctively shooting to protect her sister. She’s completely out of it due to being in the middle of a really bad episode and shoots towards the sound of the gun (which sounds similar to her monkey bomb in ep 3). You can notice it when they cut back to her, she’s breathing heavily and she’s not even looking in the direction she shot at. Her eyes are just glazed over and you can tell she’s spacing out. Once Jinx calms down a little, she looks up to the right and realizes that she shot Silco. The way her face drops and she starts crying breaks my heart. I don’t think she ever meant to harm Silco or Vi In this scene, the only person she wanted to die on this night was Caitlyn.
@mylittlethoughttree20 күн бұрын
Yeah, I definitely got that wrong, although my thinking behind it is still correct. Silco CANNOT lose Jinx and would kill Vi to prevent it

A lot of attention is paid to some other scenes, such as the Ekko Jinx encounter at the bridge, but this scene also sticks with me. Especially when it is juxtaposed with the scene in which Viktor the adult drops his cane and runs, and even outruns the large boat. I felt that the fact that he runs the opposite direction of the water flow of the kid scene encapsulated well how he is even running against nature itself. I hope that is mentioned in the video. I'm only 12 minutes at the moment of this comment.

i really liked the parallel of young victor not being able to reach the boat due to his condition, to his adult self running and leaving all the boats in the background behind. also! on the topic of death lol i noticed in one scene when sevika was playing cards, she won by putting down the death card and magician card. i wonder if that’s related to viktor and maybe even jayce? since they tried to harness magic by using science. the death card in tarot can also stand for new beginnings/ the “death” of your old self and habits to create something entirely new. i thought that was super interesting. everything in this show is just so intentional and well written. im obsessed with it 🖤

I like how multifaceted the butterfly symbology is: 1. Allusion to the butterfly effect: in this case, your choices can have very unpredictable consequences, not just for yourself, but also for others. 2. At the face of it, you don't know whether a caterpillar will turn into a butterfly or a moth. 3. Butterflies are so pretty and delicate and rarely last more than a week and only really exist during summer; a memento mori, or, more literally, a reminder of how brief happiness can be, and how easy it is to miss if you don't notice it. I bet there's even more there, but those are just the ones I noticed.

I've watched through season 1 four times now. This is such an amazing show. It even made me tear up a couple of times. You can really feel the pain of the characters. I actually care about them, which is something few shows can achieve. This scene made Viktor my favourite character. I was able to understand and relate to him on a level I haven't with any other character so far. Arcane SHOWS us things by using clever animation and doesn't simply tell us everything, like most shows and movies do today. That, to me, is what elevates its storytelling above others.

Replaying this scene makes me realize there's another parallel when he out ran a large boat after he augmented his leg. In childhood he's clumsy, and his inventions out pace him, but as an adult he's confident and his inventions strengthen him.

I was a bit late to Arcane as well - I had this awesome gem of a show in my My List for ages before I randomly got around to watching it.... You should absolutely give all the Arcane characters the Little-Thought-Tree-Treatment - somehow they made the usual cliche archetypes from a computer game into some of the most gloriously compelling cast of characters in narrative history. Plus, they are all a bit screwed up so there's plenty for you to work with...

I believe Silco was aiming for Vi. That's why Jinx shot him without thinking. Her last act as Powder was to protect her sister. Now Powder is pretty much gone (according to the s2 trailers). Jinx officially lost her younger self at that tea party.

I watched my fair share of cartoons when I was younger and although I don't have an issue with animation as a form of storytelling it's generally not part of my viewing habits. I never played the game but was intrigued by the animation style in the videos that popped up. When the Netflix series came out I watched it twice through but never returned to it. I love the subtleties and detail of the animation, I love the character depth and performances. It has so much emotional resonance. Viktor: I'm alone because I'm too disabled to play with the other kids Singed: Ah, the other kids can't fathom your genius About 15 years later: Jayce: You can't take this away from me! This can change the world for the better! Viktor: I've gone through the painful climb out of the polluted waters of Zaun that took away my mobility and into this cushy job as the vice dean of Piltover's most prestigfious university. But can I truly turn away a genius as others have turned me away? I think this perfectly encapsulates the character rc he and Jayce have gone through in Act 1. As for Powder/Jinx, I see her in Rhea and not Singed nor adult Viktor. Her intellect has never been the reason for her being cast out, and it has always been made clear for her - her intellect is what gave her strength. Her tendency for chaos, for destruction, "jinxing it" is what stopped her from fitting in. The other kids could jump through roofs and either outrun or outpunch street thugs, while Powder could only run away and try inventions that didn't quite pan out. Silco is the one most closely equivalent to Singed, I think.

I have one question: What do you think are the themes of Arcane? Maybe you could do a video about it as a deepdive (as I never found something like this and honestly this is something I struggle the most in my own writing). Sure the obvious things are that Arcane is about Duality and progress, but for example all characters from the undercity have a theme of inferiority, then it goes on with smaller stuff like sacrifices and the inability to take those because of love. Line there is so much you can talk about there.
@mylittlethoughttree20 күн бұрын
There definitely is. I'm going to need to rewatch it again, but I'd also add humanity/corruption of it, and the fear of mortality, to that list
@aetherwolf928820 күн бұрын
@@mylittlethoughttree oh definitely. So maybe we can have a section about the story level, city level and then character level. Story level: Duality, sacrifice City level: Progress, Inferiority Character level: Mortality, Parenthood, Friendship etc. Im sure the themes especially on character lvl are discussed in pairs (Duality) while the character web on city level more Circle like is (Viktor being a Zaunite how is more Piltovian, Marcus who is a Piltovian but more Zaunite etc). Also where the hell does Mel and Ambessa fit here (as Noxian is not on the scale) and where the hell does Ekko fit? Between Zaun and Piltover? I can really picture a white board where you first establish the story level, then come to the Duality theme and from there you discuss each character building a character web, following lines all around and in the end you have a 3D object
@ravendelacour191723 күн бұрын
I won't spoil but if you haven't spoiled yourself by looking up Viktor's story yourself - Arcane is a prequel after all - don't. Let Season Two fill you in and I can promise these themes of progress and quality of life will be expanded upon. Also more Arcane. There is so much to mine from it and each perspective adds more.

I don’t think silco was aiming at jinx it undoes his whole “is there anything more undoing than a daughter” quote and most of his character. Him among at Vi makes the most sense and is more poetic towards jinx acting on is rift to protect Vi still. Being the last thing she does as powder.

Hey. I`m going to write a content comment but a tiny bit of feedback beyond the video content: I love Arcane and I very much love your videos. Maybe you remember us having tiny discussions bellow your Ted Lasso videos. So this should be a match made in heaven for me right? Analysis video, you as a known creator, my favorite show of all times. Yet I didn`t click on it despite it being in my feed for over a week. Why? Honestly? Because of the aggressively clickbait title. I get it. You`re a creator you want the videos to do well there is a certain bit of teasing you need to do. All good. But a lot of your titles "the BEST scene you wouldn`t believe..." "THIS is what broke character XY" "You won`t BELIEVE why this worked..." I`m sorry, again I love the content of your videos, but the titles don`t even just look like basic youtube kinda-clickbait titling... they sound like SCAM links. "She opens a suitcase and you won`t BELIEVE what happens..." "Doctors HATE this basic trick..." They actively keep me from clicking on your videos because to me it makes them feel cheap and scamy and like it`s all just a blatant attention grab... even though I KNOW they are not. I`m just wondering if it works like that on me despite me knowing your quality... how might it work on people who havn`t watched? I really really hope I didn`t offend you by writing this I just wanted to leave you some honest feedback that what you may think is the best psychological way to attract viewer attention is kind of working against you at least for me. My advice would be... by all means keep some of the teasing but maybe "I loved Arcane and this scene summarizes why..." may do the job without sounding like I`ll be sold pills in the video or get a virus (I know that`s not how KZbin works but you get the association)😅 Hope that red as helpful and not insulting it was intended as the former ☺
@mylittlethoughttree9 күн бұрын
No offence at all! And you're not really wrong, either. I get that. It isn't really the title or caption I wanted, but I have a tendency to tweak it, and have it become more like that when the video doesn't perform well, or when I don't think it will. Views are very low at the moment and it makes me more like to try desperate measures but it certainly didn't work out here regardless, perhaps I went too far in the other direction. Honestly it's'l just good to hear someone else's thoughts on the topic
