My recording software messed up the game's audio, so I used a couple of pieces from Arcania's soundtrack as a replacement. Everything will be back to normal for the next review.

I've played the game when I was a kid without ever playing Gothic. It was incredibly fun for me, especially since I didn't have any experience with other RPG games prior. It was released before Diablo 3, Skyrim, Witcher 2 and other staples of the genre. And whatever was newly released when this came out wasn't as good for me: Fable, Two Worlds or Overlord. Also, I still remember there was a Leech hammer in a dungeon in the first swampy area that I used all the way to the end of it.

I love how it gave you that black glitch texture. Even at the beginning the game honestly shows what it really is 😆 . I've already written so much about Arcania that I don't want to repeat again why the story is pointless, why the characters are boring and the writing totally idiocratic, why the level and world design is a monstrosity and the game has nothing to offer overall. I finished it (and Fall of Setarrif, unfortunately too) just so I could legitimately criticize it. Arcania isn't (thankfully not even officially anymore) sequel, but it never was for me. Gothic trilogy ends with the Nameless' decisions towards the end of Gothic 3, and I personally don't consider Forsaken Gods a sequel either.

As a Gothic games fan, this game gets not really deserved hate, expecially from other so-called Gothic fans. It's very functional, was much less buggy than Gothic 3 at launch, while not the same lavel of immersion that Kai Rosenkranz gave with his soundtracks, it has still excellent soundtrack that I play often on YT to this day. It wasn't very "Gothic", one could say, but nowhere near a bad RPG, let alone worst of all time. Not a diss at you by all means, just my observation seeing almost everyone covering this game.
