This is the best video tutorial that I have seen about using Linux tools. You are very concise, informative and detailed. I hope you will make more videos like this.

Bill Smith I agree. No rambling, no tangents, easy to read big fonts, and i3 leaves no distractions for your presentation

Nicely done, found the information very helpful. Just installed my first Arch VM machine. Trying in on a VM before replacing Fedora 31 on my production machine. I'm well versed with apt and dnf, the pacman through me for a couple hours till I found your video. Gave you a big thumbs up!

why arch is taking alot of time from me: Open terminal to install something > type "sudo apt install PACKAGE" out of habit > think "aww crap, i dont have apt anymore" > install with pacman This happens since WEEKS. Using Debian based distros for years really shows now :D

For those trying to install Yaourt, it is broken right now move to yay ( aur.archlinux.org/packages/yay ) instead, the process is the same and it works exactly as Yaourt. aur.archlinux.org/yay.git

You can also install yaourt with pacman instead of cloning the git repo
@matthewgrotke14425 жыл бұрын
If you have pacman install an AUR package from the Git clone URL, does pacman have the ability to update that package in the future using sudo pacman -Syu?
@hcjorgensen3 жыл бұрын
No, it does not. However, you can update AUR packages with an AUR helper like yaourt or yay. Note that, to my knowledge, yaourt is no longer being actively developed. But fear not. There are more or less identical substitutes available. I myself use pikaur. Yay also seems popular.

Amazing video. A tip for the next video. Your recorded screen is just the terminal, but something happens if you "clear" the terminal, your prompt goes right to the top of the recorded window. If someone, like me, is taking notes in fullscreen mode, and I move the mouse over the video or play/pause the video, I cannot see where you are typing because KZbin overlays the title of the video, just up there at the top of the video. So please arrange it to type not just at the top of the screen, ok? Once said that, excellent video. I am looking forward for more Arch videos. Would you be able to make a video about how to secure Arch after installation? Thanks, I will subscribe.

Hi, Noob here. :) In the process of installing Arch on a 10 year old laptop. Having some problems with the graphics card and any gui manager. However, my question is what software you used for your presentation? I'm still equating Windows stuff to Linux stuff so I'm curious what people use for various tasks (LibreOffice, Kdenlive, Gimp, etc.)? Thanks. Like others, I appreciate your direct information and no fluff or drama.

Install Manjaro KDE. OSB Studio seems to be popular among Linux users. If you are new to Linux but want a modern customizable and stable OS then install Kubuntu LTS. I wouldn't recommend rolling releases to newbies since the constant updates will sometimes break or it will be too much information to absorb. Start with Kubuntu, then Manjaro, and then you can start with Arch. The reason is that once you familiarize yourself with the programs it will be a lot easier for you to pinpoint problems on your OS.

Would be cool if u added the part of editing a yaourt package before installing it.
