Archaeological Proof Ancient Humans Were Just As Dirty As We Are!

Regardless of any academic hoity toityness, I believe that humans have been largely the same for as long as our species has existed. Not in a truly biological and definitely not in a cultural way, but that we have always needed and wanted the same things. Have always looked for beauty in nature, and strived to recreate what we see to speak to others - which is basically just art. Every new piece of evidence continues to prove my belief true, and one such object shows we have always used art as way to express our horniness.

I can absolutely picture a couple of dudes seeing that rock, picking it up while giggling like idiots and taking it back to camp to show to all their friends.

I am picturing a couple of people wandering and the rock catches one's eye, they grab it and hold it up and think it's the funniest thing. Bring it back to home/camp and then it spends its lifetime among them being hidden in various beds/containers/pockets as a prank.

You get a group of modern humans and a group of the earliest anatomically modern humans together, one of the first thing that happens is a pair of them would end up screwing. And that is a 100% positive thing

Humans are the only creatures on earth who create representational art. Birds may weave together beatiful nests, beavers may make impressive dams, bees may construct intricate hives, ants may tunnel elaborate antihills, but only a human would paint a picture of a deer or wooly mammoth or scuplt or recognize the shapes of, er, other "things" in stone.

Humans have truly been interested in the same things forever. They're all critical to our survival and evolution. Of course, we are making the assumption that it was the male of the species that picked it up. That may have been a toy of the ladies.

Wonderful presentation. I’ve studied human behavior across time all my life. Decoration has been part of who we are for many thousands of years. It has many purposes and for the oldest we may never exactly know that purpose. We can still enjoy and appreciate them. As far as the Freudian rock is concerned, sex has always been powerful part of the human experience. I like to think humor played a part in this.

Well yes...but sex isn't dirty. Our ancestors had one up on us by and large - they saw sex as sacred, and didn't feel as if they had to be guilty about it...they didn't want to waste their time. So the Shiva Lingham for example, shows the union between male (active) and female (receptive) principles. That's perfectly normal, isn't it?
