A single bevel would be a good idea, or something like the Magnus stinger buzzcut 2 blade. With that kind of penetration a 2 blade ( SB or standard) with a higher length to width ratio would be better. If that's what she's getting on a whitetail @ 40 then with no bone impact, then she's going to need some help for elk. That or she will need to stalk within 15 yards.

Another great video, Allie! Your specs are perfect for me; I shoot a Mathews Traverse, which is a 33" A-to-A, 28-1/2" DL, set to 52 lbs because I'm trying to let my shoulder heal. My daughter, who is a physical therapist, said I need to do more in the way of workouts including upper body weight work to strengthen my shoulders, as you mentioned. BTW...Glad to hear you and Nick got married; he seems like a great guy. Must have been a very intimate wedding considering the state of the world at the time. Congrats!

Don't really need much draw weight, 45 is ethical for an elk, 35 for a deer. It's just nice to have a flatter, faster moving arrow especially over distance. I forget what I pull back, I think it's like 82. And it looks like it's got about a ~15 ft drop at 60-70yrds. Much further than I plan on shooting.

Here somethings to consider for a new quiver. Easily detaches from the bow, duel retainers, and if possible a loop on the hood so you can hang it while up in the tree. Also keep in mind a lot of quivers have hoods that are too narrow for fix blades with a 1.25 in or larger cutting diameter.

Hi Allie, I am from South Africa and have bow hunted aprox 24 african species in the last 12 years ranging from duiker to livingston eland... What I have learned is that one dont have to worry to much about the "pass thru". Proper shot placement in the vital triangle is much more valuable. In most instances a good shot (bearing in mind that african animal's vitals are located more forward) would result in the arrow hitting the opposite shoulder blade, thus preventing a pass thru. This does not mean that you have shot a poor shot or that your equipment does not pack enough punch! Just my 2 cents worth on the subject. Kind regards, Andre😁

When you were talking about your arrows and having to shoot a lower poundage bow but you still want to run higher foc I would recommend moving from the axis to the black eagle x impact 4mm arrows. It’s a lighter arrow and I would run the black eagle focos insert system. I’m shooting the 200 grain single bevel cutthroat which is a amazing head if you know how to sharpen them. The black eagle x impact with the 200 grain head and 80 grain insert weighs the same as my axis with 225 grain upfront total so my foc goes up

Have you tried finding a lower GPI arrow, maybe stepping up to a 340/350 spine and adding tip weight. This could give you the same overall weight with more FOC which is what helps with penetration along with going to a broadhead closer to the 3:1 height to width ratio. I know cutting diameter can help in not so great shot placement or external factors, but if penetration is wanted for elk, it helps, think going up a gradual ramp vs steep ramp. Using sharp broadheads and keeping broadheads sharp is also vital, they only get duller through an animal. Perfect arrow flight is key as to not waste energy.

Did you ever look into a Garmin sight? It is the single best upgrade that I did to my bow. I know there’s a lot of controversy about it but I feel that you still have to use a range finder anyways. I can tell you from experience that it is a lot faster then using a hand held range finder and if the animals moves position, all you have to do is press the button aim the reticle at your target again to get the new yardage and shoot. So accurate and isn’t that’s what taking an animal is all about? Being as accurate as possible so they will not suffer from a bad shot. Isn’t it our responsibility to be as accurate as possible for taking a life. It makes me wonder how are not all the bow hunters using this sights. Thank you for reading of you really do.

So you probably already thought of this but I’m gonna through this out there with the draw cycle and how you draw you either had a low elbow or a high elbow and both are horrible for your shoulder if you can have a middle range a good example is Chris bees videos about 3 worst mistakes on archery. Your should will hurt less and with me after strengthening up I went from having trouble shooting 60 pounds with a low shoulder to 70 pounds easy on the same bow but you do you

Try putting a bow sling on your bow, and if it is installed correctly, you should be able to hold you bow out and open your hand and you bow should slowly tip back. If it tips back you will need a stabilizer... If it doesnt tip back you dont need a stabilizer.

If you ever decide to have kids, I'm sure they will be hunting and fishing prodigies. You just won't be able to show the hunting videos if they are something like 3 years old because there is a minimum age limit. Fishing I think is fine. My son caught his first fish before he was 3 years old and he called it an "ish" :) LOL

I don't like then either but I support her freedom to choose for herself. They are popular with her generation. We will just have to get used to it.
