The type of pain you describe is exactly what I'm dealing with. Thank you! I'd like to see more videos explicitly showing more proper archery form (draw, stance etc) from a doctor's point of view

Yes, please instruct us on how to balance our muscle groups to avoid injury. Worked jackhammer and air drills on construction for decades and rotators are really sensitive to use, especially if I do not warm them up before shooting. Warm up exercises would be appreciated before shooting. Good tip with the band.

THANKS SOO MUCH! My right trap is insanely inflamed and sore. I’m learning how to shoot a recurve and I believe it’s the draw combined with moving my head forward cause that’s the apex in pain!!! Sore for 3 weeks now. I’ll try to correct this. Thanks again Brother!

Would like to see more of everything you mentioned! Thanks for the tips/info. I am having some of that shoulder pain when I workout. Will definitely be getting some resistance bands and trying out that exercise movement 😎👍🏼

Anything related to the front/stabilized shoulder? I have the exact pain and think its still the same issue, bicep tendon/labrum or even delt. I just got my first bow and definitely shot it a lot so I know its an acute overuse injury. Ive had bilateral labral tears for ~10 years and do a lot of rehab/rehab work, however you define it. I'm a S&C coach/AT for a living so I'm more curious if you've encountered this rather than the draw back shoulder.

Yes It is very common to have it in the bow arm vs. string arm. Stability strengthening is very important.

Will DHEA do anything to strengthen a weak rotator cuff? I have an old injury thats never fully recovered and all i want to do is be able to keep shooting my bow.

I have a pain in my left shoulder (right handed shooter) it seems like it is the backside of my shoulder. Do you have any recommendations for the stabilizing shoulder?

Jonnathan, thanks for following along. That is very unique but I do see that periodically about 30% of the time it seems to be the bow arm. Rotator cuff exercises performed on both shoulders as well as good mobility drills can help. I have specific stabilizing drills I have people do a lot. Same. Except I have legitimate pain in my right shoulder on the back side and I'm a left handed shooter.

Often times it comes down to having the right flexibility so good stretches are important and the right stretches are important. Making sure you do a good warm up is recommended as well. Im the same boat. Right handed shooter my holding shoulder behaving in a way i have never experienced before. Sometimes ill feel some discomfort on the front, sometimes in the back of my shoulder, and there are times i feel it in my tricep.

I had some pain while shooting with a buddy the other day kinda went away and forgot about it. Fast forward 6 hours I go to workout and while benching my shoulder gave out. now I can’t draw my bow and have terrible pain in general raising my arm above 90 degrees from my body I’m at a loss as it is hunting season and I’ve put lots of time and money into this years hunts. mind you I’m 23 years old was an all state wrestler and baseball player still in great shape.very worried I may have caused serious damage to my rotator cuff

This is the exact pain that I’m feeling but on my front shoulder rather than my rear/drawing shoulder. Would the same apply that you’ve explained here?

I’ve been told by an orthopedist that I have a torn labrum in my right shoulder. There’s too much weakness and my shoulder feels like it pulls out of joint when trying to draw the bow overhead. I’ve resorted to basically locking my right arm against my chest and raising the bow up and drawing while lowering it. It works without pain, but I’m sure this might cause other issues. Can just strengthening those shoulder muscles help?

Shoulder strengthening is paramount especially with a torn labrum. Let me know if you need any specifics and let me know what is going on with your shoulder would love to see some video of how you are drawing to see if we can work on some good form to make sure you are not injuring other areas.

Last month I had a reverse arthroplasty replacement on my left shoulder. I'm doing better but I'm having a bit of pain when using my bands in a bow drawing manner. Will it get better with time and therapy or should I plan on selling my equipment (I do not want to think about doing that!)?

Canis Wolf I would hate to think about selling equipment. I don’t see a reason why you couldn’t shoot. It might take a good evaluation and training program to work the right muscles. Typically a reverse tsa is reserved for those with an irreparable rotator cuff. So we need to work the deltoid muscles. Hope this helps let me know if I can help in any way. All the best!

@@mtnphysio1440 Yeah, the shoulder was that bad, but more than that is that both of my shoulders need the same procedure (I'm having the right one done next year). I've been an archer for so many years and enjoy it so much, I just don't want to give up on it because of this.

My post-op therapy has been okay, but there's much they haven't gone over, and I feel sorta left out in the cold as to what I can do to get my strength back. I will get it back and I will continue my archery, but any good help will be greatly appreciated.

Is there an injury associated with movements that occur after the release? That sudden expansion causing inflammation?

There is. I often see it at the elbow but it can happen further up the chain as well. Schedule a free consultation and let me look at it to get the details.

Because of not drawing correctly i got shoulder pain and involving my neck then go through my head and got me migraine just because of compound bow archery. Thats maybe the cause of me not drawing my bow correctly

Yes that happens about 40% of the time. It can be quite the issue and that’s where I look at stability and other muscles to see tone and strength etc. let me know if you have questions. Message me on my website to take a closer look at it. All the best!

I have the same thing and my archery coach noticed that was rotating my shoulder forward instead of keeping it steady. It was a simple change that made a huge difference. Focus on not moving the bow shoulder/arm during the draw.
