One of, if not the greatest acting performance by any actor ever. Carroll O'Connor NAILED that role! The most fleshed out BRILLIANTLY portrayed fictional character on either big or small screens. Archie was written to be the antagonist that the liberal producer, Norman Lear, thought everyone would hate and Meathead was intended to be the protagonist that everyone was supposed to agree with and cheer for. Just the opposite happened. Everyone LOVED Archie and despised Meathead. That hasn't changed in 50 yrs either.

The definition of irony Archie was my dad. Meathead was the moral majority and Archie put him in his place on a regular basis. Sometimes in life what happens is far superior than what is intended. So many lessons of life emanated from this show. Probably the most impactful TV show ever created

It was really good for the first few years, then it got really bad. It lost its edge and became a typical shallow sitcom. People also don't seem to know or don't remember (or perhaps they stopped watching) but Archie gradually became essentially a liberal.

I remember sitting with my dad and two brothers watching All In The Family in the late 70's when my dad got home from work. They were reruns from the early 70's and played an episode Monday thru Friday at 5:30 PM. After we would watch the 6 o'clock news then the TV was shut off for supper which my mom made every night. My Mom Teresa,Dad Frank,older brother Frank,myself David,younger brother Andrew(Andy),younger sister Teresa,and the youngest sister Allison would all sit down and have dinner as a family. No cell phones,electronics,nothing.Mom would ask about school,our day,etc. Do families do this anymore? I doubt it. Us kids ages were roughly 12,10,8,6,and2. How i miss those times soooo much,the holidays,vacations,everything. We squabbled like most kids but were a close knit family growing up in Dorchester,Boston. Moms family also all lived in Dorchester. Grandma was the BEST,i really loved her,all the ice cream you could eat! I can hear Edith and Archie right now,THOSE WERE THE DAYSSSS!!!

I’m a 67 year old Black man and FORMER Demoncrat. I actually left the party when President Ronald Wilson Reagan announced his candidacy. Fortunately, with a considerable amount of work and effort, my family and most of my siblings families are intact and stable homes. Our kids are taught responsibility and respect in the home and how to properly behave outside the home. We do not permit “Drill Rap” or any of that hip-hop NONSENSE. Music is music and RAP AIN’T MUSIC! We all joined the military to serve the nation which provided us so much. With the cost of education being ridiculously high, the military option is a great source of funding an education. My kids were all taught firearm safety and the responsibilities that come with ownership. They were all also taught that the only real RACISM left in this great land… is the RACISM OF “GUN CONTROL”. America’s Founding Fathers were staunch believers in FREEDOM and provided a remedy for tyranny in 2A of the Bill of Rights) I am also a Christian. I love my fellow citizens like brothers, regardless of their race, skin color, genders (there are only 2) , etc.. That is the way to live life and be a success in the greatest country on planet earth!

I’m not sure which episode you are talking about. So true? So much is true about the way we were. So much of it is hysterically funny! But I see the contrast between what was on the “TV Set” then and what’s on the “flat panel” now. I would say we’ve come along way. Back then there was Jim Crowe laws in the south. And it was very much implied in the north. If the young people who are rioting could only realize the differences and advancements our country has made, they would most certainly have a different point of view to share now. But anything that points out the improvement in society is being withheld. I can’t help but wonder why? It would ruin the political efforts that exist today that are putting demographic groups at odds with each other. We’ve come a long way. It’s a good thing too!
