best sitcom ever, absolutely ground-breaking and the highest quality in so many ways. most if not all sitcoms before or since are just silly stuff, going for the cheap laugh...they didn't have as much intelligence in an entire year as this show had in one episode. I so pity the younger generations who can't get this now...and that's not a slam, I don't think it's fair to expect them to...to really appreciate it, you'd have to have been around back then and understood the climate then.

I dont know about this. Edith as a wife and mother would never be portrayed in this fashion, imo. She was portrayed as docile and dumb as a brick. in today's shows, women tend to be portrayed as much smarter than their husbands in the script writing. Nit always, but most of the time.

Did you know All in the Family has spun off more shows than almost any other television program. All in the Family spun off Maude (1972) which spun off Good Times (1974). It spun off The Jeffersons (1975) which spun off Checking In (1981). It spun off Archie Bunker's Place (1979), 704 Hauser (1994) as well as Gloria (1982). That's 7 programs spun off from one TV show.

I remember my grandmother watched this show. I'm seeing this for the 1st time. I'm blown away with how raw, and multi-dimensional the writing was back then. I thought The Jeffersons and Good Times went in with the storytelling and breaking down politics and social events of the time. I can appreciate the perspective All in the Family portray as well. It's like All in the Family was the precursor to the current talk radio.
