In the original pilot episode, in which the show was called Justice For All (1968), Michael was already living with the Bunkers. However, his name wasn't Michael but Richard- a college hippie. They kept the character Gloria . But the family's last name was Justice not Bunker. The theme song in the second pilot was also its title: Those Were The Days (1969). The 1970-1971 aired pilot episode was All In The Family It used the same plotline from the original unaired pilot. A little trivia: of the three pilot episodes, Those Were The Days is the only one not to have the world All in its title. In case you're wondering, Tim McIntire played Richard in the original pilot and Gloria was played by Kelly Jean Peters.

@@MichaelSmith-zh2px For years people thought the original unaired pilot was lost. If I'm not mistaken, it was the first to use videotape. There are some fun things to look for in the 1968 pilot: microphones just above the set, the set is slightly slanted (especially by the front door), Gloria accidentally hits a lampshade while serving Archie and Edith orange juice and Edith's party hat falling off when she accidently bumps into part of the low hanging ceiling. All in all its a great episode. What makes it somewhat unique, is that it was filmed in the middle of the protests happening at the time.
