You have to look for a job no one wants. I became a local school bus driver at age 53. It took a few years to get the hang of it, but now at age 64 I absolutely love it. My positive attitude is picked up by students, teachers, parents and other drivers making the job a positive experience every day. I'll do it another three to five years.

I knew a guy who was a VP and lost his job at age 51 due to a merger. He worked contract jobs for a few years, then landed an entry level job at a bank as a teller. He worked up to a desk job as an account manager and then loans officer. That was around 60 and he worked another 10 years before retiring. He died a few years after retirement. I was proud that he left a multiple six figure job and took big pay cuts afterwards just to have a job.

Working life is now 20 to 70+. People are.livimg much longer, are much healthier. What you are describing about being 50 and the difficulty of getting a job, that is from the 1960's to 1990's. Era. I retired in my early 50's a few years ago with 1.7 million USD in investments and a paid off home. I also worked IT but the low end desktop support side but was with the company a while and made a decent salary in my final years of 70k USD which in the midwest USA is about 25k more than many of the IT desktop support jobs I see listed today. I sacrificed during my working years by driving old cars and lived frugal which allowed me to save almost 50% of my income from my early 30's. With being out of the IT field and age discrimination I can't even fathom having to go back to work in my late 50's. I'd probably have to work at my local Walmart lol. This makes me wonder if his viewership has been dropping off.

Archie - try IT again. But this time deal with small businesses and individual homes. Older people have no idea how to computers. Charge for travel time in your price. You could start this business until it grows full time. In the mean time apply for an in-bound call center, transit or driver job, or whoever is hiring full time. Age discrimination is real, but if they are desperate enough they will hire you.

Archie doesn't realize what made him great many years ago. If you go back 10+ years in his videos you will see when he was pure gold. You never even saw him in the videos, he didn't need to do that. His character was a watch salesman and he would review various watches and give humorous commentary with his thoughts on them. He would cover anything from Patek to various shitters in a humorous way. Fast forward a few years and Archie ruined himself. He started only covering watches that he owned. For some reason he thought he had to "own" every single watch that he started to cover. This reduced his overall scope and appeal by a large margin. Sure, he started doing paid watch reviews but it was nowhere near as entertaining as his old "Archieluxury Salesman" character. One of my favorite lines from his older videos was about entry level luxury and Rado. He said "Sure, technically they aren't bad, but it just has that sleezy kind of look to it; much like something a used car salesmen would wear". Random off the cuff lines like that were golden. I doubt he will read this but if you do Archie, you sold yourself out. You lost your way and completely forgot what made you an internet success in the first place. Now, you're just another guy complaining on the internet.
