Looks awesome! The only critique I have is that you stated the nesting area was used for quarantine. I know you referred to letting the little ones get acquainted & grow up, but some non-chicken folks might misunderstand. Quarantine is a word used most often to describe new arrival separation, to ensure no diseases appear in the first month or so. Definitely airborne, dustborne diseases could pass into your coop via the chicken wire. So, just wanted to mention that, so new chicken owners to confuse the importance of "quarantining" their new additions for disease observation.

Any details on what you used for your foundation? Did you follow the concrete footings as described in the plans?
@Archifx7 жыл бұрын
+eclypse80 we set 10 4x4 posts in the ground and added concrete similar to a fence post. The foundation beams at the bottom keep it square and it could theoretically be moved in the future. If it were footed to the ground you would not be able to relocate it.
@mike_carvalho7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along. I'm going to try to document some of the assembly process.
@mike_carvalho7 жыл бұрын
I've got my coop assembly pictures uploaded ( imgur.com/a/U1sdx ). I'm now wondering where you purchased the outdoor wall lights, and if they are wired or solar powered? I know the solar powered motion detector ones are the "Ever Brite" model, but what model are the stylish wall lights?
@colleenreep38537 жыл бұрын
I found another brand of motion-detector-solar lights, Swiftly Done, than the brand mentioned above by @eclypse80, that seems a better option: more reliable, which, by the way, @archifxllc never actually named. Same shape, size, but ratings much higher. Your coop is beautiful and I look forward to trying some of your innovations, but especially the solar power. We use solar panels to power one of our high volume wells, and a small array to power a much smaller well in a very remote location, so I am very pleased to see such a simple, straight-forward use for a coop. And I love the A/C option for our very hot summers in northern central California. @archifxllc - you really need to check out the automatic coop doors available, especially the ones with "last call" so that the hens have full access to the coop during laying hours and protection from predators whether or not you are available to put them to bed, or even to release them into their run during early morning hours. The auto close feature can be added to the run door for free-ranging, too, so the hens are secure within their run at dusk. We can't always be available to monitor the girls, after all! Happy poultry and life to you all!
@TheBlackmagicDenja6 жыл бұрын
I hope you don't mind, but I peeped your assembly pictures. They look great! My wife and I are just starting the process of building a chicken coop ourselves, and we're also using the Chez Poulet design (with a few modifications). Your pictures look like you went with foundation (cinder?) blocks instead of concrete. How deep did you dig (are there 2 layers of blocks or just 1)? And did you use mortar or did you just lay them end-to-end and let the ground keep them in place? Last question (for the moment): What do you use inside the run? Sand? Hay? Mulch? Or did you go with just dirt? Thanks for any help.
@krystawaterman-steggell39647 жыл бұрын
