It always drives me crazy when people compare Joan Rivers to the female comedians of today, especially Kathy Griffin. Joan Rivers was so much more than a Comedian. She was also one hell of an interviewer, writer, and businesswoman. NONE of today's comedians come even close to the talent and skills she had. She can't be compared. She was in a league of her own.

Kathy Griffin wouldn't exist without what Joan Rivers did for comedy, especially women in comedy.

She was disciplined, like the best of her generation. Today's comedians have the rockstar complex. They want to be adored without having to acquire a skill that merits the adoration of others.

Ms Rivers never fully got the flowers she deserved. Ms Rivers, along with the likes of Mr Carlin, should have been awarded the Mark Twain Prize, Kennedy Center Honors , and much more. Ms Rivers is a true LEGEND, she brought us so much joy and laughter for over 50 years and blessed us with her wit, charm and beauty. An amazing pioneer...

Such a relaxed interview. This is the first time I’ve seen Joan just enjoy “ being” instead of having to keep the jokes coming… She didn’t have to be “on”. And this is the first time I’ve seen Dick Cavett take on a little bit more of the conversation, instead of working so hard to engage his guest. They were very good for each other and I can see why they were friends.

Did the audience leave for most of this interview? Either they're hanging on to their every word or the jokes go over their heads. Nowadays, floor managers would hit the applause sign , but back back in 1991 quiet conversation was still the norm. Delightfully refreshing.

You don`t know. She says they had separated. He might have been taking the fall from that tv deal that fell through. It might have been a hit. I heard he was at some hotel in Philadelphia. I met Rivers once, when I worked for Barbara Walters. Rivers was a guest on the `Emphasis` radio show. Did not think she was as driven as she was but the Facelift says alot. She was furious when the chat show deal fell through. Probably blamed Edgar So whether or not it was a hit, she was wrong in separating as it obviously devastated her husband.

In reply to the guy who says Tomlin was gay and would never sleep with a man..I think when she started out she was straight or bi. She was sweet, stuck by her friends. The owner of The Blue Angel or some Greenwich Village Club had a crush on Tomlin and used to let her raid the frig. When others began the owner got mad. Tomlin said `If I eat, my friends eat`. Funny she got canned from Fox. She said that Fox had less than 10 affiliates. So basically 100,000 people out of 250 million saw her show and Fox gauged her whole worth by that? She's a smarter comedian so of course only top and bottom 20% of viewer will watch, but how could many of them watch with so few affiliates?
