As a NYC resident, I appreciate The Local Project choosing our location. I've seen hundreds of apartments in similar old, prewar buildings and they did a beautiful redecorating job that is pays homage to both prewar architecture (especially those floors" and midcentury design. Somehow it works well together.

i just love that red tiles island as it so unique as never seen a fully tiles island before and the architecture choose to do something unique as well in-tune with period of that building with handmade tiles on floor to backsplash to island . it’s so 1950-60 kitsch era

Such a stunning design, every detail is so thoughtfully considered. Noticing little things like him colour matching the power outlet cover plate to the island mosaic tiles. The spaces feel cohesive but each uniquely interesting. Also, Tal is very articulate but humble and not preachy. I am an architect and I wish I can speak like he does in an interview like this.

Really unique, that's the best part! NYC reno's often look the same in that they keep too much to the period of the building and you end up with a nicely finished but blasé traditional space. This feels new, it's modern but they did things like honor the original flooring. Also, unexpected materials/patterns! ❤

The kitchen island loooks nice as a picture, but is a functional disaster. From the small tile countertop that will age like spoiled milk, to the cooktop without any ventilation in a low rise prewar structure. Its almost criminal how narcissistic some interior designers and architects are for going along with this just so they can add it to their portfolio instead of advising their clients against it.
@sonicpentatonic5 ай бұрын
yeah that kitchen island is peak "aesthetic" without any consideration for function. Tile countertops and unventilated cooking surfaces are asinine in a kitchen that will actually be used.

I like the remodel of this NYC apartment which I find very tastefully done, except the kitchen island covered in red tiles. It just seems out of place with the rest of the design. For me, it would have been better if the red tiles were used more as a decorative accent, rather than covering up the entire kitchen island which made it seem like a massive red block.

The island is gorgeous, but as someone who grew up in a home with a tile-topped island just know the downsides that come with it. Prep work is harder, cleaning is more involved, and unless you get the right tiles installed incredibly well then the surface can be uneven which makes sitting something on it or moving something across it more difficult. Not saying not to, just hoping to share my experiences of the reality of a tile countertop versus the aesthetics.

Can someone explain to me how it works when you renovate an “apartment” in someone else’s building? The word apartment assumes that the resident is leasing the space. What value is there in renovating something that you don’t own? Unless this is a condominium and the word apartment is being used incorrectly. Which would be the case for a lot of videos I see on the matter.
@MTMF.london4 ай бұрын
Apartments can be rentals, condos or co-ops - especially in New York City. Nothing wrong with the word.
@fty-ys4ni4 ай бұрын
@@MTMF.london By definition an apartment is a leased dwelling. In California we don’t call something an apartment that isn’t an apartment. So you can see my confusion.
@MTMF.london4 ай бұрын
@@fty-ys4ni An apartment is not necessarily a leased dwelling. It is defined as merely a self-contained unit part of a building. In NYC (as clearly said in the video) it can be a leased unit from a landlord (rental), or individually owned as a condo or shares in the building corporation as a co-op. .

Dude, not everyone in New York live the way you think they should live. Yes, some of them don't cook and some of them have people to clean the apartment and some of them can afford to take-out all the time and probably prefer it. The apartment is as realistic as anything else because that is how they want to live in NYC.
