*ARCHIVE* Railroad Crossing: Main Street in Anderson, IN. CSX Main Track 2

This is the Main Street Crossing located on the edge of Downtown Anderson, IN. The crossing is in the 1500 block of Main Street. Located at this crossing is the former Big Four Depot. It's now restored and currently houses a dance studio (and they take great care of it).
Main Street was once a two-way street. Many streets leading in and out of downtown have been transformed from two-way to one-way or vice-versa. This helps explain the common use of an additional crossing signal on the far side of the tracks. It simply wasn't removed when the street was to one-way traffic out of fear of wrong-way drivers.

Makes for a good recording for the grand kids, as they play with the little layout, now with Diesel replacing their beloved Polar Express. This beats 'Train Sounds'. I like the 'cab chatter'. It gives realism as the little kids load freight, moving it around the loop to unload in town. They keep hitting rewind of the cassette, so they must really like the sounds. 'Thomas' was their indoctrination to trains, now the 4 yr old is hooked. He enjoys the Norscot 1/64 scale CAT loaders on the flatcars.

You are correct. I think the decision to do that is a horri le idea. It allows people to go around the gate where there is a building blocking their view in both directions and also distorts the sound so you can't tell which way the trains coming from. It's a miracle people aren't dying here.

Funny all the local PD in the first couple videos, and then on the longshot we see the motorcyclist run the crossing. You'd think they'd try to put an extension and some extra counterweights on the lone gate, or consider adding a mech to the opposite approach signal.

@sirkrunch, yeah. The Anderson Police Department is just a few blocks away. I always ondered why the didn't completely cover this crossing with the gate or add one on the left. With the buildings you can't see until you are in harms way.
