Good job on distance zoom and paceing your panning on those flat cars hauling pipes.

You should try getting a hold of that old crossing signal. Would be neat to have. But those old signals are heavy.

Hey what type of train horn is that at 0:29-0:35 part in the video?

But man, is that crossing signal cool! =D is that the only one left that protected the crossing?

StarWarsTrains Yes, just before the plant closed someone crashed into the other signal and it didn't get replaced. Now kids are vandalizing this one. I want to get it as no one is claiming it (checked with city), but it's heavy. It's made out of 12" traffic signals (Eagle). There were traffic signals here too and were the same brand.

wisecrac99 Wow, that's crazy! I figured you'd probably be the one to claim it before it gets taken down. Btw, was train traffic heavy back in the day? How many trains switched on that old spur? On Google Maps it looks like it's still connected to the CSX mainline, but is cut-off from the crossing that used to be there, though it is still marked by the pavement markings and the old makeshift crossing signal.

The local CSX crew came in once a day weekdays to pick up and drop off box cars here and around back towards the south end. That spur went inside the plant. If I remember right it split off three tracks inside the plant. I think CSX has removed the switch now so the spur no longer connects to the main.

wisecrac99 Yeah, I wouldn't be too surprised if they used it as a siding for storing MOW equipment. That's what NS did to an old paper mill spur down in West Carrollton (also near Dayton).

And what auto plant used to be there, anyway? (And btw, that "unknown model" unit @6:05 is a snoot-nose SD40-2).

StarWarsTrains It was Guide-Lamp. Made various lighting like headlights for GM. The name change as owners changed through the years but it usually still contained some for of the original name. Locals will always remember it as Guide. This building was huge! I think some pictures still exist in Google Street View in 2007 mode. And the overhead view shows the footprint it left behind. Thanks for the model info, updated.

wisecrac99 Huh, that's cool. My hometown of Dayton, OH once had GM power-train, bus and industrial trucks, Frigidaire appliances, and GM pick-up truck/SUV assembly plants in the Moraine area along with a Cooper Tires (originally Dayton Tires) plant that was once served by Conrail up until 1999 when they decided to ship everything by truck. The spur leading to the plant still remains intact (signals, switches, etc.) however, its completely abandoned and the new owner (a beer distributing company) has no plans to do anything with it anytime soon. Shame that only two of the plants in the area that were abandoned still remain; the rest are just empty, vacant lots! =P
Yeah, I also forgot to mention that the Frigidaire plant was once a bomb manufacturing facility which produced bombs for fighter planes during WW2 (and eventually engine parts towards the end of the war).
