arcologies - "beyond the fog" / "enchantress" - akai s3000xl dd varispeed mixes

here are a couple of test tracks i ran through the s3kXL's disc recorder function. the concept: record a track to the 3k's HD via the analog inputs (can boost the rec gain), adjust the speed with akai's varispeed feature, apply 3k's internal FX (if you desire), and bounce it out to the DAW. doing this, you're taking advantage of the 3k's nice AD/DA and a bit extra by using the varispeed feature to speed it up or slow it down. these tracks were just bounced into the 3k from renoise (just playing the "mastered" wav files), adjusted in the 3k, and then bounced back out; no external fx/dynamics.

Beyond the Fog has become my favorite of yours. The combination of dreamy atmosphere and super deep bass is what I like. That first bass hit is so nice and satisfying, then it goes even deeper and finally that super deep hit that first occurs at the 1:30 mark makes my house rattle. How the beat stops for a few seconds right before it hits build up a little bit of tension. Awesome work! How deep is the bass there? Seems way deeper than anything else you usually use. 20 hz if I had to guess. Please make more stuff like this for your ultra low bass loving fans! Very chill and dreamy but with super deep bass is a great experience! Thank you!

Nice tune! I've been trying to do the same with my s3000 classic it has the filter card in which allows the DD recording but doesn't work , think it's because I have a scsci2sd in and doesn't recognize the SCSI Id so could never get it to record no hd present tried different IDs still no joy, do you know what SCSI ID the DD records too?

Is this the best akai to get for 90’s ambient jungle ? Thinking the s5000/6000 are overkill ? Aha biggest fan -glooms….( I have all your albums !) ahahahaha thanks for any advice!

heya! the s3kxl is probably my favorite of the bunch. i have an s5000 as well, and i use that all the time too. it's not overkill, but the s5k/s6k are really powerful and can be the center of a 90s/2k-inspired "vintage studio". everything sounds good with any of the akai filters, especially adding a bit of resonant LowPass to a break... nice top shine without harshness! the best thing about AKAI samplers: hella easy to learn and use, you get comfortable with them in no time. if you can find a good deal on one, it'll be fun to mess around with... just don't pay crazy prices; no one is paying 700+ usd for these things... sellerz are smokin' something.

Probably leaning towards the s5 unless I can find a cheaper s6 but they all are 800+ on reverb ahaha anyways wanted to say your music really soothes the depression and helps decompress after a hard day at work ! I blast it through a Bluetooth speaker while I’m cutting meat at a grocery store !
