Yep! (Also Third is a great album) This seems to be the trend with polarizing albums - ones that really push things forward. The harmony on this album is relatively atypical and founded on weak (harmonically speaking) chord changes, so it's filled with a lot of low-key delights. You can almost hear the "Ding!" of the elevator as you arrive at the lounge floor on this track. Genius.

I really did! I love Alex and the arctic monkeys so much but it just... sucks. It’s not FWN, certainly isn’t humbug or suck it and see. Definitely isn’t AM and it’s just not something I’m into. The martini police? Baby that isn't how they look tonight, oh no It took the light forever to get to your eyes [Verse 2] I just wanted to be one of those ghosts you thought that You could forget and then I haunt you via the rear view mirror on a long drive from the back seat But it's alright cause you love me And you recognise that it's ain't how it should be Your eyes are heavy and the weather's getting ugly so pull over I know the place Don't you know an apparition is a cheap date? What exactly is it you've been drinking these days? Jukebox in the corner Long hot summer They've got a film up on the wall and it's dark enough to dance What do you mean you've never seen Blade Runner? [Pre-Chorus 2] Maybe I was a little too wild in the 70s Back down to earth with a lounge singer shimmer Elevator down to my make believe residency From the honeymoon suite Two shows a day, four nights a week Easy money [Chorus] So who you gonna call? The martini police? So who you gonna call? The martini police? @TigermoonMusic6 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit late, but the thing is - most people who were fans of Arctic Monkeys originally fell in love with them for their fast paced songs, guitar riffs, drums and Alex' relatable lyrics. Then a lot of the fans who came with AM fell in love with the sexy, kinda predictable, but incredibly catchy and cool sounding riff based songs about lust, love .. - still, very relatable things. All of these people had to wait 5 years for the new album, and for some it was exciting, because they hoped AM would go back to their fast paced roots, for some because they expected more of the AM sounds. Nobody, or not many people expected a jazz/space/psychadelic keys based album with such different (yet IMO incredibly interesting) themes and weird song structures... Because of that, many people didn't give this much chance and were incredibly dissapointed. I personally think it's beautiful, and when I first heard the jazzy chords of this song I couldn't stop myself from grinning madly and thinking 'shit, they've done it again'. But the music is definitely not for everyone..and sadly some people just can't accept that 'I don't like it/it's not my type of thing doesn't equal 'IT SUCKS ASS'

So far the best album of 2018.
@itsaramkat6 жыл бұрын
this is so accurate. I discovered them with AM in 2012, and have been waiting six long years for this album. I'm a huge rock fan, so I was pretty disappointed when this first came out. I didn't think it was bad, per se, it was just not what I was into. Now, four months later, I love this album. It's unapologetic, and a slap in the face to fans' expectations, and I deeply respect that. Who would the Arctic Monkeys be if they didn't pursue originality over money? ......that said, I STILL think this album is objectively their worst. Their other albums' lyrics were more brilliant, soulful tongue twisters, whereas this one falls into the unfortunate issue of being interesting in 2018. Lyrics about tech are going to age poorly. The soundscape is a little on the boring side; I don't think Alex has come into his own on the piano, but there's a promise that makes me excited for the next album. All together, you can also tell the other band members weren't completely sure what to make of it (this also reflects in interviews), and so it overall feels like Turner's love letter rather than an Arctic Monkeys album. I'm calling it now that this album will be a bit like Humbug: controversial, but an undeniable predecessor to the next game-changing sound they make.

This doesn't sound all that dissimilar from Alex's solo stuff he did on Submarine. The guy loves channelling music from every decade except the current one. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Alex's dad was a music teacher so I'm sure Alex was exposed to many different kinds of music growing up. It's evident with his stylistic choices over the years.

what i really like about arctic monkeys is their ability to give vivid imagery to the listeners. like with this song, i picture myself in a spaceship wearing backless satin dress with drink in hand, looking out from the window of a huge spaceship while softly swaying to the tunes. its very similar to what lana del rey does in her songs and thats why they're my faves.

Lyrics: I just wanted to be one of The Strokes Now look at the mess you made me make Hitchhiking with a monogrammed suitcase Miles away from any half-useful imaginary highway I'm a big name in deep space Ask your mates but golden boy's in bad shape I found out the hard way that here ain't no place for dolls like you and me Everybody's on a barge floating down the endless stream of great TV 1984, 2019 [Pre-Chorus 1] Maybe I was a little too wild in the 70s Rocket-ship grease down the cracks of my knuckles Karate bandana Warp speed chic Hair down to there Impressive moustache Love came in a bottle with a twist off cap Let's all have a swig and do a hot lap [Chorus] So who you gonna call? Baby that isn't how they look tonight It took the light absolutely forever to get to your eyes -courtesy genius

This song and this album will go down as an absolute classic of the 2010's. I really think that. I was not a fan, nor a savant of Arctic monkeys music but when I heard this song on "CBC-after dark" I had to know more. if you listen to this album with "are you mine" or "do I wanna know" goggles, then I could understand why you would not like it. As a music fan with no prior experience with this band outside of bar tracks, I truly believe this album is one of the greatest concepts and body of work to come out of the 2010's and that also includes TOOL's fear inoculum. objectively amazing. undeniably masterful. good night
