When I was a kid we used two logs, bolted together at the nose and spread apart at the other end, in short a vee. The logs were topped with boards to form a bed that would hold two 50 gallon drums. We would use this stoneboat to drag drums of river water up the hill to the house where it was poured into a horse trough in the rootceller...a hand pump in the kitchen provided, what my dad called, running water. It made my mom happy. My brother drove the tractor pulling the stoneboat and water barrels, while I sat on the tractor hood to keep it from going over backwards. Just normal ranch living in the 50s.

Absolutely brilliant as always AVE! Regarding the widow makers onslaught of abuse and neglect. You can save dollhairs on ‘START YOU BASTARD’ using this method someone demonstrated to me back in the late 1960’s, before START you Bastard’ (other brands are available) became available. Turn diesel or petrol engine over on starter for 3 seconds if it doesn’t start, stop turning. Count slowly to ten, turn engine over on starter for 3 seconds if it doesn’t start. Keep repeating this process. This process will start the engine provided the engine is in working order and just cold, or left unused for some time. This works because the cylinder on full compression is heating the cold charge of fuel air mixture while you are counting to slowly ten. In the case of the diesel engines which are after all compression ignition engines. This process is very good on modern diesel engines, where the tool who designed them, put the glow plugs truly out sight out in their minds where no one in the right mind can easily access them.

Just like the painter at the shop said about a 5th gen Camaro we worked on... Thick, black, loud, and rough around the edges. Just like he likes his women.

Yup, stone boats are handy. They were actually used to haul stones out of farmers fields in the old horse drawn days. They are sometimes still used as a training device for horses to have something to pull that is fairly easy and very durable. Just don't get caught unawares like I did, helping an old friend with his horses that were supposedly trained to pull a stone boat, but in fact never had before. Seems they had only pulled wheeled carts and wagons previously. So this friend wanted to exercise his horse, and asked for my help. I asked him why we weren't just hooking them up to one of his wagons, but he wanted this horse to pull his stone boat instead. Ok says I, and we go to it. He even had a little seat bolted to the boat. So we hook up the horse to it, and I say giddup... and the horse starts pulling, but the boat isn't budging, so I was like, common boy, pull! Then the boat started moving, which made a scritching sound, and scared the hell out of the horse, which bolted into a full run. It would neither woah or turn, so once I realized the direction we were heading, I bailed off the thing. The horse then, at a full run, tried to get through a pasture gate to head back to the barn, where it crashed as the boat got caught up on the gate opening. Boat was badly damaged, horses harness was damaged, but the horse was ok at least. I was ok also. But that was the last time I helped his friend with his horses, lol. I'll stick to driving and riding horses that I know have done those things before.

For future endeavors, the backyard mill- wrong could Fabricobble an A frame even from dead tree carcass in a pinch to do the heavy lifting, chain her to old Casey and throw her in Reebok she'd be upright before the boss sees. "We can handle it" alright.

Today AvE demonstrated to me that if force doesn't work, apply more force. If that doesn't work, just force it.
