As you can buy them with real world money to have an in-game advantage as your in game coin earnings are multiplied, hence you are able to by upgrades or consumables at a faster rate. Note that this will be an unfair advantage also to those who are not currently online if for example a network booster was on as they may be asleep or something else.

Agree at 95% : Having myself read the EULA, they are breaking it, *but not the way you believe*. The EULA asks to follow the "commercial use guidelines" document, where the Pay-to-Win rules are under the "*Server* Owners" section. As a result, *players* are not allowed to sell stuff for real-life money, whatever it is cosmetic* or not! They are also probably breaking 2b2t's EULA as 2b2t obviously couldn't allow such use (because of Minecraft's EULA) and should get banned. *You could argue that a server owner has the autority to allow cosmetic selling, but what person would take responsability for another business? A professional server would outlaw cosmetic selling and open their own cosmetic shop instead. Anyway, by default this right isn't granted players.

The thing is, it's and End User agreement, the server owner is not the end user, the player is, so the rules are technically bound to the player unless stated otherwise, for example, there's a difference between you can't make real life money in-game (it affects everyone) to servers can't make real life money in-game (in this case, only servers are affected, leaving the players free to do it) so it would depend on what is exactly written there, does it specify a group or it doesn't? if it doesn't, the rules are for everyone

Practically everything on a computer has an EULA, not just Minecraft, which you're required to accept when you buy and/or install it. Iirc it's technically not legally binding, in that regardless of what many companies would like you to think they can't take you to court over it. It does, however, allow them to refuse service if you violate it, such as banning you from an online game for cheating or, as in this case, things like refusing to provide the service of connecting players to your server. So really it's less of a "we can take you to court for breaking this," and more "if you break this, you forfeit the right to take us to court if we take it away even though you bought it from us." Though some parts of most EULAs generally retread ground that's covered under things that they *can* take you to court for, like copyright law.

I literally shuttered when he said MCPVP. The whole time I was thinking about this server but completely forgot how it was called. Man, I would play for hours every day on their CTF mode. Most fun I’ve ever had in Minecraft. It was such a cool and unique gamemode, but I guess it did fundamentally go against the EULA. Sad! :(

I remember playing their hunger games before bungeecord was popular. I literary had all 26 or so servers in my server list and would manually spam joining trying to get in to one. The only time it was easy was when the Mojang login servers went down. You could still get in by logging in and playing via the browser.

Not really. It was legally 100% forbidden, but Mojang said to servers during Minecon that there was nothing wrong with the way they operated. So it was still an unexpected announcement that their whole job was now illegal.

the workaround for the ig item money thing was. Pay for ''money'' or ''tokens'' ingame via plugin -> vip shop. If the money was stored away from the game, but readable in game it was not ingame currency so by proxy allowed.

On my regular server we had a mostly no rules almost anarchy server that we had to stop because of EULA conflicts that Mojang was threatening to blacklist. When that shut down to become a regular Minecraft server I felt wanting in the challenge department, and decided to give 2b2t a try again. I poked my head in once or twice back in the early 2016 KZbin days but was turned off by the queues. Glad I got the chance to get back into 2b2t, there is nothing like it.

I used to be an admin for a big ftb server network, we bypassed the eula by selling players plots of land. Inside those plots of land were various different kits that would respawn every day.

That's not "bypassing the EULA", that's "breaking the EULA and hoping no player reports to Mojang" Selling access to areas containing forbidden advantages is forbidden too. This loophole was mentioned in the 2nd blogpost, before the EULA was even enforced.

The trading itself happens outside the game regarding the items in-game, the in-game part is indiscernible from regular dropping and picking up items
