Once a cop asked me to pay fine for my aftermarket yoshimura exhaust, I asked him to show me the noise level from decibel meter but he told me that his ears are more accurate than a meter, and the noise once checked was well below the max levels. Some years ago as I was riding at my neighborhood, there was an old woman walking in the middle of the road very slowly and just to warn, I honked. That moment I saw her shiver and her body shake becos of the sound. Till date that sight reminds me not to create any unnecessary noise that could irritate others. We have trees in our street and I have planted few of them around our house too.. But that can never nullify that irritation caused.

Real Indian Hi Bro, It's better to keep the stock exhaust because of few reasons. First is cops, they are waiting for the chance to grab the bikers and second is you will not get very much impressive sound in a single cylindered engine bikes and it will be very loud too, third thing is you can modify your stock exhaust by removing the catalytic converter and make it as a free flow exhaust what i have done on my bike but it's very loud, soon I'm also going to change it stock exhaust.. 🙂👍

A slip on(just the end can) generally dosent remove the cat. Depending on the bike, the cat is usually located in the link pipe or in the header pipes after the collectors.

Even if the sound does not go beyond 80 decibels, any alteration to a motor vehicle will be punishable under section 52 of the motor vehicles act. So even if you have a quiet silencer and the cops find that you changes the silencer after getting the RC and if the modification is not updated with the respective authority then chances are, you will get punished.

India traffic cops seem more reasonable in that they are actually checking the decibel levels before deciding if an (aftermarket) exhaust should count as being too loud. Sadly the same is not true for Indonesia, where most of these officers will not hesitate to stop and start fining you just because your motorbike exhaust does not "look" like it's one of the OEM parts, let alone drawing out this decibel meter to measure the noise level! They just won't bother, even though we do have similar regulations here. It's just too bad. RIP performance freedom.
