Failure is on prop strike (crash). This is when you get a voltage spike - the motor becomes a generator.

Perhaps try adding a tvs diode/spike absorber
@farmlifefpv8735Күн бұрын
@Venrad They only do so much
@jiatan_fpv22 сағат бұрын
It's a long tale. They've done tests with an oscilloscope - no spikes on crash. It makes no theoretical sense either, since the highest voltage (also known as back EMF) is at highest RPM. During a strike the voltage just drops, that's it.
@farmlifefpv873522 сағат бұрын
@jiatan_fpv The thing is during that prip strike the amps will skyrocket and the ESC will try as hard as it can to push the motor back to where it was, amps be damned unless the rampup power is turned down. And iirc the voltage spikes are mainly when you're at high power and let off?

Oh man, I could have helped you with this. AIOs have been the present for me for years and I've tested a bunch of them. I've run AIOs on my ultralights and even street league drones for years to great success. Since your stack is less cluttered and the board is bigger you actually get great heat dissipation. More often than you think you kill ESCs by hitting something while they're hot (and the solder is hot) and they shift, shorting or damaging components. I have AIOs that are 2 & 3 years old and fly great. They're def where the hobby should be going. Great video!

I remember when they started coming out over 5 years ago and the main reason the majority said no is you have to replace it all if you ruin just one part, many didnt like 4 in 1 ESCs for this very reason, gotta replace all when you just burn out one.

Aikon makes solid electronics. From my experience the aio's can handle even 2207 up to 110A on 6S. Just dont crash or turtle. The esc on mine didnt handle it. Might be different on this premium expensive one. Having fc and esc seperate makes maintenance easy and cheaper. Oh and electrial noise is worse in aios

With some work, maybe they can resolve that issue.
@lemonsquareFPVКүн бұрын
That's really good data!!! Mine is similar. I find 2106.5 and 550 grams about the limit. Definitely don't turtle!!! And measure the resistances on the MOSFETs and swap them when they get above a 10-20% imbalance or you will lose a controller, in addition to a MOSFET. I did a 6" bi-blade freestyle basher on 2306s for a bit but you have to swap all the MOSFETs every 40- 80 packs and as you mentioned flight performance isn't quite as good because of the extra noise due to AIO component compactness.

Instead of having a AIO with FC and ESC and then seperate receiver and VTX I think its better to split it the other way: have AIO with FC, ELRS receiver and HD Zero VTX on one board and seperate 4 in 1 ESC. That way killing an ESC doesnt take out your FC and it would be just as compact in a build. I suggested this to HD Zero after they released their AIO whoop board and they acknowledged the idea. So heres hoping.

Hi Evan, appreciate your videos. You seem to know a lot about this stuff, perhaps you can help me with this question - Its about amps. I'm using rcinpower 1002 19000kv motors GTS 3. I'm using 1s. The datasheet for these motors with 2015 bi-blade props suggest that they pull more than 5amp. I've seen other prebuilt quads like the sub250 nanofly 20 1s uses 1002 21000kv motors, with a 5amp aio. I am using a 12amp aio with the rcinpower motors because of the datasheet. I would love to use a 5amp aio - since I could just use the same as what my whoop uses... I'm too scared to try it out.
@headsupfpvКүн бұрын
Quite honestly, you should be fine. Most esc’s amp rating refers to what they can hold constantly and not burst. Depends how you’re flying of course, but I have seen 5 amp whoop fc’s do some impressive stuff so I think you’re good!
@xyic0re714Күн бұрын
@@headsupfpv Thanks Evan, I guess I will just have to sacrifice one and see how it goes. The happymodel 12a are a lot more pricey than the whoop boards, especially the new betafpv 5in1
@lemonsquareFPVКүн бұрын
@@xyic0re714 I have never broken a HM or BetaFPV 12A board... 5A boards I have to CONSTANTLY change MOSFETs on. Unless you are going ultra light 65 or 75mm it's best to use a 12A board.
@xyic0re714Күн бұрын
@@lemonsquareFPV Thanks for the feedback. I thought this might be the case. I don't suppose you know the name of the camera connector on the happymodel X12 aio? None of my cameras have connectors, and this connector is a pain to remove from the board. I would prefer just to buy some premade connectors and resolder the camera end.
@lemonsquareFPVКүн бұрын
@xyic0re714 There is pads on the top of the board, don't need the connector. Video, 5V, and ground. Look up the board pinout. Also the X12 has another set of emergency hidden pads under the connector, if it breaks off. But just use the ones on the edge of the board it's easier. The connector is the 1.25mm I think, standard camera connector, but don't quote me on the number, I gotta check. I just know it's the standard camera size. But I never use them and have a dozen spare harnesses.

How is this even close to a durability test? Any quad should be able to handle full throttle, especially a super light one...how about you do a real durability test, put your AIO on an 850g quad and smack it into the concrete...how's that AIO holding up now? 30x30 is easier to maintain, more durable, cheaper, costs less to replace one board than 2, AIO has worse EMF, more noise, typically an 8bit esc instead of 32bit, and a much smaller thermal envelop. You're building hype for a new product, but there's no logic behind it.

I’ll definitely be doing more durability tests in the future ! From previous tests, not all AIO’s or ESC’s can handle this amount of full throttle or throttle blipping without desyncs or worse. So I felt this is the first step to move on to more in depth testing. 30x30 has been the standard for a long time, but I don’t see anything wrong with trying new things and documenting the process. Who knows, maybe one day they’ll be good enough to replace them and make everyone’s builds even simpler ! Regarding the hype of a product, I have zero affiliation with Aikon

@headsupfpv they better be easier to install...you'll be replacing them alot more frequently
