the more you cycle on the right, the closer they will overtake you. You make yourself invisible, not important with cycling next to the curb, so they will overtake you like that.

I'm a cyclist but I also drive every once in a while. Even when driving I see a lot of other drivers acting careless, not only towards cyclists but in general. Some just don't pay attention, don't check their mirrors or don't look properly. Others are just morons. Problem is, if a car crashes, it's mostly just a fender bender. If a cyclist crashes, they can be seriously injured. That's what drivers need to remember! If you overtake a cyclists, use all the space you got! Pull over all the way to the other side! I mean, that's where you sit, so you can easily see how much space there is! And if there's not enough space, then leave it! There's no need to risk someone elses live just to join the end of the traffic jam a few moments earlier! If you turn right, check your mirror, then turn your head and look over your shoulder! Especially if you overtook a cyclist just moments ago. And if you pull onto the street over a bike lane, stop in front of it and look!

Generally i don't think some even realise how close they actually are. And i think it mostly boils down too some drivers don't ride bikes, at least not any serious distance on roads to get somewhere.

Nice vid, showing what we face on a daily basis. Funny choice of music too. The only driver I wouldn't blame is the one at 4:00 : he used the other side of the road to overtake safely, nothing coming in the other side, so to me it's ok~ish.

I have mixed feelings riding my bike on a Swiss road. On the one hand, I think drivers aren't nearly as aggressive as German drivers, Swiss drivers also tend to drive slower and most of them respect cyclists on the road. On the other hand I have the feeling Swiss drivers pass you very tight since there isn't this 1.5 meter rule, I don't feel too comfy on Swiss bike infrastructure since it's often just paint, also when I would like to have a proper cycle path and some Swiss drivers don't understand that people cycling don't do that just for recreational purpose; and sometimes they drive ... weird, at least in German eyes. In Germany we have much more dedicated infrastructure, but trust me, we have enough moron drivers too!

All we want is to ride happily from A to B without risking an accident, all it takes is for drivers and riders alike to be attentive and careful all the time. Most people are, but some others think they can do whatever they like, as they feel they're abive the rules... Meh, that's life, isn't it?

@ynotnilknarf395 жыл бұрын
if a driver cannot see you by their headlights whether you are lit or not then they should never be on the roads. Drive at a speed you can stop well within the distance you can see to be clear. You don't drive or cycle headlong into the darkness do you! There was a very good reason the UKs Cycling Tourist Club argued against compulsory rear lights in the 1920s and 30s. lights on cyclists make zero difference to safety from others actions, either people are looking or they aren't!

Some are cutting the point too fine. A few are really not worth including at all because the driver didn’t have any choice. However, some are just egregious aggression and/or impatience on the part of the vehicle driver AND if our camera man/ rider didn’t have his eye open and brain ready in anticipation there would have been an accident. So, I see your point on a few of these but I don’t think we should throw the baby out with the bath water. I ride in japan and believe me--its a LOT worse here. These kinds of videos do serve a purpose.
@shizuokaBLUES6 жыл бұрын
ryan420 dakin staying off the road often means breaking the law. Then if there is an accident with a pedestrian, the cyclist is automatically at fault (and rightfully so). Insurance claims and court proceedings are messy messy costly things. So why not share the road equally. As long as both parties follow the rules , and treat each other with respect, the road is usually big enough to share safely.
