Don't feel bad, Angels has an absurdly good matchup against Mono-Red. There's just too much lifegain to deal with. I think it's possible for Mono-Red to win if Angels gets a bad hand, but it's not very likely.

I will say, as someone who used to play a lot of Best of 1 when I was playing, you may be seeing weird card choices because people with very incomplete card collections may have issues putting together a good side board and therefore eschew modes where you side board.

Yeah that's defintely a factor, when you're new to the game or jsut don't have a huge card collection you kinda build up decks and craft the holes when you get the wildcards so you can try out mroe decks if you aren't also needing to craft a sideboard.

@@CrystalLily1302 Due to having been on break for a while before the last rotation, when I came back for a bit I had this terrible travesty of a deck running tons of a 2 and 1 ofs because it was the best I had for dealing with the most annoying decks I was currently seeing (Rotpriests were just everywhere for a bit) but it wasn't a deck I seriously wanted to play, just one for wins so I didn't want to put wildcards into it. "Channeling my Twinshot Sniper isn't targeting you with a spell!"

One thing I love these last couple of videos is being more specific for why certain cards occupy the sideboard slot - I'm pretty up to date on standard but if a modern deck tech comes around I'd like to know if any meta updates by way of what cards are important enough to sideboard for, like the need to run Hollowed Burial because of Indomitable Creativity, etc

Funny enough I think Drana & Linvala's use is for the Rakdos matchup. Sure, it'll likely die, but it does shut down reflections and bloodtithe.

This is what I'd consider to be an actual angel deck. Paladin like knights/soliders and almost all other creatures being actually angels. Its a pet peeve but I really hate "angel" decks that are like 5 angels and then just a bunch of other cards like fable.

Yeah, I think this one is pretty flavorful. There are a couple of humans to fill out the curve (we need more Angel two-drops!) but it's pretty angelic.

It might be worth considering revisiting some older deck ideas from the earlier parts of this Standard after last rotation because mana is just so much better now than it was at rotation. Five color werewolves for Halloween maybe? Blue for Suspicious Stowaway. White for Brutal Cathar. Black for Graveyard Trespasser. And Gruul for the rest of the pack.

Seeing Seth read the red player's mind in the last match and call the lightning strike was so cool. You could see the opponent was shocked by it by how they hovered.

After watching this video I checked out my pre-Aftermath angels decklist and Seth I think you've hit the nail on the head here. The problem with my deck was that it got run over by aggro and I didn't have a good 4-drop besides the archangel (which is more like 5-6 because you want to kick it). Aftermath has given angels exactly the right tools for getting better matchups. I'd personally pack a couple more removal spells (for the control matchup) and a couple of Enduring Angels instead of Drana and a Sanctuary Warden (for a really solid threat). Then I think it should be very well-rounded for best of 1. I'm not a best of 3 player so don't ask me for tips on that, it seems like a deck that'll get wrecked by board clears though. My personal experience of the angels deck recently is it depended too much on sticking a Giada and having enough time to build up an army. I faced way too much removal that I couldn't do that, so it faltered and then needed to get to the end-game to stand up to whatever the opponent was doing. When Righteous Angel was in the format you had a second angel you could stick early that would reap value and let you survive against aggro, but that hasn't been the case again until now.

On why Best of 1s sees more odd decks: I know for me I often take a new brew to Bo1s first to make sure I don't miss any obvious early lessons with the faster games before I tweak it and play a mix of Bo1 and Bo3

For Aftermath, I'd say the cards worth crafting are: the two angels, Coppercoat, Tribute, Training Grounds, Scavengers, Nissa, Calix, Rebirth, Jirina, and Karn. Most of those top out at 1-of and 2-of for standard and brawl. A couple are just good tech or build-arounds for their archetype. It's jank, but I really want to test a build of Tyvar with Kami of Whispered Hopes and Deathbloom Ritualist.

Yeah, I'm not switching to best of one or anything like that, but I'm a little tired of the best of three meta at the moment (hopefully the bannings Monday will shake things up a bit). Plus Angels are *perfect* for best of one since they really want to play against aggro decks and aggro is way more popular in best of one than in best of three at the moment.

In my experience the conplaints about mono-red, soldiers, rakdos, etc in bo1 are based on the platinum and below level. That's where most players play at, and why mythic is more diverse.

I didn't think midrange was popular in best of one. Thankfully I only played against Rakdos five times out of all 26 matches, so it shows up a lot less than it does in best of one, but it still is around.

Was there a reason enduring angel wasn't in the deck? I've been doing angels in standard for a couple of years and Giada + enduring angel is devastating plus with the new sigarda giving hexproof it'll make opponents need to put you to 0, flip enduring angel and deal with the extra life + growing threat.

I've been trying to brew an EDH deck with them that uses Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist to attach Luxior to opponents' planeswalkers, thus letting Drana and Linvala steal their loyalty abilities.

Fable's pretty good at smoothing out your draw, but is only actually THREATENING if you somehow can't deal with the reflection side, which dies to basically everything in the format. Even then it's just good value that doesn't actually win on its own unless you manage to flip two of them. Compared to Invoke Despair which is backbreaking on its own every time almost regardless of board state. I dunno, maybe I play too much red and am salty that the best two or three burn cards in the format are in black. :V

I wonder how much the games you get is affected by your current rank. I feel like the sweatiest ranks (where people are most likely to be running top tier decks) is Gold (people grinding to Plat for the rewards), Diamond (people grinding to Mythic for bragging rights) and maybe the high end of Mythic (people trying to be the GOAT). Low Mythic is the type of place where I think people just run whatever they want cause they already got to Mythic, so unless they're trying to be the GOAT there's no reason to run strong decks.

Low Mythic has all the relatively low-skill players poorly running 100% meta copy-paste trying to be high mythic. It divides by how jank your deck is in BO1
