Are bad people in heaven?
Is believing in Jesus and saying a prayer all it really takes?
Does that mean I could lead a terrible life and get into heaven as long as I believe in Jesus before I die?
There seems to be some confusion around who gets saved and how to be saved. Many times, the gospel Christians tell sounds like one in which Jesus rescues us from the wrath of God. And as long as we can pray the Jesus prayer in time, we can be saved from that wrath.
But is that really what Jesus is saying? Is that really the gospel message? If not, what is the gospel?
And if not, what is?
What does it mean to be saved? Who gets saved? And what exactly do we need to do?

Many have prayed this prayer and have not experienced change in their lives. We must remember the words of Jesus in "John 3:3 Jesus responded and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." Salvation is the work of the Holy Spirit. Repentance is a sign of true conversion. God knows our hearts.

Brandon, your work of ministry is great! So, "this" is for "someone." I have NO idea who "you" are, but it took over 45 years of wandering through churches for me to REALLY "get" this. Whenever I have read Luke chapter four, I have read this; "So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read." He was accustomed to going to the synagogue, reading the scriptures. But today, it was different. He has just returned from the desert, where He had been tempted by Satan...because...He had recently gone to John, who was baptizing people in the Jordan, calling them to repent and to submit their lives to God. But Jesus, didn't NEED to repent before John - or anybody else. He had NEVER sinned against His Father in heaven. But He DID need to SUBMIT the rest of His life in this world to His Father... and He did JUST that. He went in, under the water - into the grave - and buried His past, this young man of Nazareth with the auspicious birth. When He came up, something amazing happened. "While He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” So when He was standing there, reading Isaiah, it was somehow different than before. He was REALLY speaking the truth...when He read; “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” He was "anointed" to do ALL these things - now! "Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." Much later in his ministry, when He enters Jerusalem, for the finale of His life, He makes this statement. Philip and Andrew had some Gentiles that wanted to see Him, but He ignores their request. He KNOWS something. That "something" is this; “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor." Years ago, on an off-chance, I ran into a young man who started a conversation with me about MY life. It was ODD. I didn't even KNOW him. But somehow, he got RIGHT to the point and he put his finger DIRECTLY on my sin. I was suddenly FILLED with guilt...and with the knowledge that I had been living a lie. The next day, his wife took me to her pastor, and I went through the motions of confessing my sin, and accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. Afterwards, I said something to the pastor, like "but I don't FEEL anything different, though." The man quickly answered me; "This was NOT about YOUR feelings. It's a LEGAL transaction between you and God." It's true. I soon began to "see" all the things that I had been forgiven of. MANY things! "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." Several years later, I got this THING in my mind. I NEEDED to be baptized! Nobody had EVER said ANYTHING to me about it before. I just KNEW IT! So, I went to ANOTHER city, a hundred miles away. This woman preacher was baptizing people. She didn't even EXPLAIN why. She probably didn't even really know, herself! I JUST KNEW - this is what I HAVE to do. So I went forward, a two-year-old believer in Jesus. I went under the water. I came up, and when I came up, I KNEW SOMETHING was different! Something had happened - in the water! Somehow EVERYTHING was different now. "If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor." "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life."

Brandon, in Acts, the Disciples baptized many people and added them to Christ’s church. People were baptized when they stated Christ was crucified for our sins, was dead, buried and arose on the third day. We must believe he is the Son of God, and we have to be baptized for the forgiveness of those Sins. That is what scripture says. There is not s sinners prayer anywhere in the New Testament after the crucifixion of Christ. That prayer you reference would almost make dying on the cross not worth it. I just believe that the wonderful studies you do in the Bible need to pertain to the Bible when it comes to being saved. And I think you need to go back and address BAPTISM, please.

That's a good comment. I have been watching this channel with interest and its insightful explanations of Biblical passages. However, I think you need to do an exhaustive study on the book of Acts which told how people were added to His church. What you are talking about here is another version of the sinner's prayer. It is never mentioned in the New Testament. In fact, the examples of conversion (both Jew and Gentile), all have two things in common: Jesus was preached and they were immediately baptized. Of course, some other things were either implied or could be deduced by what they did later. My channel deals with this and more. Thanks for allowing comments on your channel. I think our goal should be to fall at Jesus feet, worship Him, and do all He commands.

There is simply no "sinner's prayer" found anywhere in scripture as a biblical model for guaranteed salvation. It was a tool used by evangelists like Charles Finney in his crusades. God offers saving faith to those who believe, repent and follow him, not by "accepting Jesus" or inviting him into your heart." Let's honour God by keeping it biblical, folks. You don't get to heaven by praying a prayer. Scripture is clear on the subject, and yet modern evangelicalism continues to promote the concept of faith by the sinner's prayer. Don't believe me? Search for it yourself in your own Bible.

The issue I see with this view, is that you are telling Christians that they should be totally healed of their sin. That it shouldn't exist anymore in their lives. But what happens then when they sin? You have told them that God healed us of sin. So a true Christian should never sin again. So, when a Christian who may have heard this view starts struggling with sin, they are going to believe they were never saved. You have put them right back on the wheel of trying to earn salvation.

Please do a video discussing the cut off age where children start being accountable for their sins. The infamous final video by the beautiful and innocent 12-year old Kaitlyn Nicole Davis has kept me up at night for weeks... In her now deleted KZbin channel, she made videos where she accused her stepfather of sexually abusing her and another videos she expressed a belief in God and expressed hope of one day getting saved from the ugly mess that was her evil family. And then one day she live streamed a video where she's strung herself up in a tree but not before reading a letter to her audience where she was apologizing to certain people. In the eyes of God, if anyone breaks His law he is a lawbreaker and goes to hell. That is ALL of us. And that is why we need His forgiveness and grace. We are playing golf on a course where par for every hole is ONE. If (when) we make a hole in two (or more) it is impossible to catch up. That is why we need Jesus.

Thank you Brandon! I like your messages. May I share some important thoughts on this one? (Sorry if there are grammatical errors, my English is not so good.) Such a prayer can be the beginning of turning to God for help. It is like recognizing that you have a serious disease and going to see the doctor and expressing that you need his help, because you want to be healed. So this short message is very good at pointing you to the only real and potent doctor of your spirit. But at the point of saying such a prayer, or similarly at the point of meeting a doctor the first time, you are just as sick as you were before, even if you somewhat feel better that some hope is dawning. Most of the short messages of this kind, that religious people spread over the internet, don't say anything about how to be saved. They only say a few things about you being sick, and about your need to go and see the doctor of your spirit, Jesus Christ. In spite of that, they advertise their message as if it was the complete way of salvation. Big lie!!! They don't really spread the gospel of the perfect and saving faith in Jesus Christ, they spread a message of faith in their own faith that is only an illusion, not faith. Brandon's message is a good one, because it has no such claims as if it was a complete message of salvation. But you may be used to those false messages, so you may assume some things that are not in Brandon's message. Brandon's message says nothing about how to be healed or saved, except that you need to turn to The Doctor as a necessary step. I think Brandon would admit that. So the title "How to be saved" is a strange one. Might be a good "bait" for people seeking salvation, but the doctrine on how to be saved is not contained in Brandon's message. Now, back to the "doctor analogy": the doctor can decide to put you on his patients list, and he may make a treatment plan for you, and tell you about the cost of your treatment. By the way, there is a cost for treatment by Jesus as well (there are several passages in the Bible when Jesus speaks about the cost of following Him). Jesus is an all-knowing doctor for sure. That means if you're willing to pay the cost, the result will not be dependent on Him, because he will always do his best. Whether you will be healed (=your spirit/soul saved) at a certain point of your life, will ultimately depend on you, on how you trust the doctor and how obediently you follow the treatment plan (=Jesus Christ's teachings). I think we should clarify that faith may begin with such a short messages or short prayers, but FAITH doesn't equal SALVATION, contrary to what some self-made preachers say. Just look at John 8:31-32 where Jesus talks to Jews who already HAD FAITH in Him, yet he says they are NOT SAVED, but places their salvation further off, dependent on obeying His teachings, and then at a certain point they will really be saved. So faith in Jesus doesn't equal the point of salvation in the Bible. The salvation journey starts with God imparting the Holy Spirit to a repentent person, who had already been cleansed from his sins by participating in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (the imparting of the Spirit is also known as "being born again/from above", like someone else suggested below). A person who hears such a short message like this one and nothing else, will probably have no idea what it means to "Make Jesus Lord and Savior every day of your life", they probably know very little about what Jesus commanded, and so they don't know what kind of lord to obey. Therefore people generally need to hear many hours of teachings about what Jesus taught, what Jesus offers and what he wants, what it takes to be his disciple, before they can make an informed decision whether they want to become Jesus's servants, giving up their own will, and doing God's will thereafter (or not). Especially in today's chaotic "Christian" world with wildly differing doctrines between different denominations. The point of "initial" salvation is like the point of getting married, and "ongoing" salvation is like living in marriage and remaining in it. Now marriage requires knowing the person you want to marry pretty well first (not perfectly of course), likewise salvation requires knowing Jesus and His teachings pretty well first (not perfectly of course). So normally, "initital" salvation coincides with something similar to a marital vow, when one got to know Jesus well enough to be confident enough to say before the community of fellow believers something to the effect of "Jesus Christ, you are my Lord, take me as your servant, and whatever comes our way, wherever you want to take me, I will follow you always, and I will serve you and be with you all my life." The doctrine of salvation (named "soteria" in theology from the ancient Greek word) is an important message of Christianity that was distorted and lost over the strormy centuries of the religion. If I was Satan, I would also attack Soteria full strength, and would try to instill a false doctrine of salvation into believers. Because if Satan can make people believe that they are saved when they are not yet, that's a win situation for him. 'Cause nobody seeks a doctor if they think that they havealready been cured. If in reality they are still seriously sick and their treatment is delayed, that could mean that they will be past help at a certain point. What an ingenious trick from Satan! Watch out! Very cunning and clever in his own ways. Fortunately, the true doctrine of salvation can be recovered from the Bible. But we are very much influenced by what prominent "Christian" religious leaders or prominent theologians said about this subject over the centuries. So we need to pay close attention to and do adequate research in the Bible.

But what Brandon is hoping is is that people actually change because without change there's not going to be no salvation. and no am I not saying that we're saving arms ourself because it was God that sacrificed his son that's what put people on track that come to the understanding and the truth. If we want Jesus to be our savior, to forgive our sins, to heal us, and make us new we must obey the scripture. We are not saved through prayer alone. We are saved by grace through faith. But faith without obedience is dead. True faith is fulfilled by what we do and not by faith alone (James 2:14-20). For Christ to heal us from being dead in our sin and make us new, we must be baptized It unites us with him in his death and resurrection to give us new life (Rom. 6:3-11). It washes away sin and saves us by the power of His resurrection (1 Pet. 3:21). We receive the Holy Spirit by baptism (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:38; Acts 19:1-7). If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ (Rom. 8:9-11). For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? (1 Pet. 17). Jesus said, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned." (Mark 16:16). Baptism only has this power through faith in Christ to save us. If we believe, we can be baptized (Acts 8:35-39).

I am 99 percent sure Hitler is not in heaven but that is Gods job to judge. Bad people do not go to heaven. God will determine who is worthy to be in his kingdom of heaven. Repentance is a gift given to us through Jesus sacrifice and God and Jesus Love for all of us. So repentance is there for anyone who truly changes. So those who dont repent and willingly reject God with actions and spirit will be judged accordingly. It all depends on the severity of ones sins and whether they are actually remorseful. If a person who is just a non believer but does not sin much he has a good chance to be saved if they accept Jesus. A believer who has agregious sins has a lot of work to do to be forgiven. So it all depends. Its all up to God.

The thing that we must realise is it is all up to the Lord. Jesus knows the how the why and the where of every unique soul. God is the final word, on who is in and who is not. It is a possibility that some, may be there. It is not our concern. Christ is the King and he will decide, So do not concern your self with who is in and who is out. Not your Job. Your own soul is your concern.. What is defeating for many is this " Now I am saved my troubles are over " Your biggest battles are now before you, your troubles are just beginning... Kept the Faith and you will in time triumph..The hour/ hours of testing..

I believe in the idea that there is only one unforgiveable sin. Each of us must find what we believe, and find Jesus from what HE says to our hearts. Our relationship with Christ is ours. Our salvation is on His promises, the things He says it is. You decide what you believe. Know that Jesus is calling you. Will you answer? What will your choices be?

It takes a lot of work to live for Christ, especially because Satan is always trying our insecurities. Faith cannot be alone. Action must be there as well. Acting on God's promises with kindness and obedience is very difficult. I think it says faith without works is dead, but that works won't guarentee salvation. Only faith in Jesus can do that. I'm a sinner who is trying hard to learn to work on God's agenda and not my own.

I'm a Christian but I prayed that prayer anyway because the Apostle Paul said that he died daily. I take that to mean he asked God to forgive him of his sins every day. He also said he did the things he didn't want to and didn't do the things he wanted to. I paraphrased that. A couple weeks ago I was watching a bad movie with very carnal things in when I felt God tell me Be Holy For I Am Holy. I turned off the movie and prayed asking for forgiveness.

He messed up by saying that God sent His son to die for her. Yes, Jesus is referred to as the Son of God, but that is only to separate 1.of the different ways that God showed Himself to us. Jesus is not LITERALLY God's son. God can't have kids and there is only 1 God. No, Jesus is God manifested in flesh. This means that God HIMSELF came down and died for our sins. I wish you would point where the example of this "sinners prayer" is in scripture. ALSO explain where the other elements of salvation fit. Please explain the purpose of baptism, and Saul's conversion of why he prayed for 3 days and that was not enough for him to be saved, Ananias said "Why do you wait, arise and be BAPTIZED. What about The scripture "baptism now saves you". What about the great commission to go out making disciples, or Jesus saying Repent AND be baptized.

When Jesus cleansed the temple, he was making two statements, not just one. 1) corrupt money changers have no business being in the Father's Temple, & 2) sacrificing any living thing is an abomination and completely unnecessary given that our Divine Father-friend already loves us with an infinite love. I have felt that Love Big Time, and it's fantastic! Paul was operating from the Jewish concept of Yahweh, who started out as a volcano god, yes, full of wrath. But Jesus taught us that God rules the universe with love, not hatred or vengeance. So, Paul was operating from a lack of experiential knowledge with regard to God's love. If he had felt it, he would have known that Atonement was ridiculous. Yes, the Atonement Doctrine-dogma, is one of Christianity's worst arguments for believing. In large part because it's a lie. Jesus' teaching on forgiveness is in the Lord's Prayer: forgive us as we forgive others. Paul's idea of Jesus dying for our sins is magical thinking. That's not the way God operates. Jesus died on the cross as a necessary precursor to demonstrating the resurrection. Proof that eternal life is possible.

If God wishes to heal sinners because they are actually ill, why doesn't He heal demons for the same reason? At 76 years of age, and having worked in the mental health field before retirement, I realized that nobody ever decided to become evil. Something made them sick. If you read biographical information about Hitler, you'll see what made him so sick. So, did angels, for no reason, decide to rebel and become demons? Obviously, if we're to take the war in Heaven literally, something awful happened. Don't they need to be healed as well? But don't tell me they just need to accept Jesus. A lot of people in this world refuse because Jesus has been pathologically presented to them as something awful and to be feared.

Brandon, doesn’t the Bible teach in Acts as well in many other places in the Bible that in order for a person to be truly saved they must admit that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, That He was Crucified on the cross for our sins, was buried and on the third day he arose from the dead, and that each of us must be baptized for the remission of our sins? It just seems to me, a man like you should know, that you cannot overlook something as important as baptism. John the Baptist didn’t and Jesus himself didn’t either. After all, God said, “ This is my Son in whom I am well pleased!”, after Jesus came up out of the water!

When Jesus spoke these words, everyone was STILL under the old covenant. So they HAD to be obedient unto death, in order to obtain salvation. Under the new covenant, we must believe and be washed in the blood, then we are sealed, once and for all. Then we will be obedient because we are a new creation. And when we do disobey, we pay an immense price through the conviction of the Holy Spirt.

I am retired minister. I have I hope helped people to come to Jesus and to be saved. I can't tell you if they were bad or not before they accepted Jesus. The way I look at it as far as bad people like Charles Manson or Hitler why should I worry about whether they are saved or not. That is something that God can sort out not me. Maybe I have the wrong attitude but what I think and believe is that at this stage in my life and I'm 71 years old is that I know that I am saved and I know that I still must stand before God and answer for things that I did or didn't do. We all must face God in that way and so that is where I am.

Christians seem to think that they might go to hell for being bad people but literally no human is good, even Jesus Christ admitted that he was not good. So why do so many Christians still worry about salvation? Jesus Christ paid the price for all of our sins on the cross, our salvation is in his blood. Look at how little Jesus spoke of hell and eternal damnation compared to how much he spoke of love. You're insane if you think Jesus' love is not unconditional.
